The view is beautiful & I love the rooms and the beach scenery… have gone there several times a few ago for my bday & loved it.

Fantastic resort. Amazing staff. Had the best experience in a breathtaking setting. Highly recommend.

We love staying here with our dog. Very pet friendly. Recommend getting the Junior suite if you want a little more room. We do like the gas fireplace much better than the rooms with the "fake" digital fireplace.

Long story short… it shouldn't take 3.5 hours to get a microwave. Two staff were ok, while the older lady was rude. This was our 2nd time here. The 1st time 4 years ago we had the best time. This time we felt talked down to and like we didn't belong. They ended up refunding ($100 well haven't seen it posted to our account yet) we checked out yesterday, so maybe it will post in a couple days. I also emailed, Eric, who has a hotel in Santa Monica, and is filling in at Sanctuary until they hire a manager, and he was very apologetic and said he was going to refund an additional $150 plus the tax, which was nice! Still wished the staff would have done what they said, so we didn't waste 3.5 hours sitting hungry waiting for our microwave. Was never going to come here again, but hopefully once they get a manager and staff learns to be pleasant then maybe we will be back. The young lady, who checked us out at 8am Wednesday morning was amazing. Wish she was there when we checked in. It was just a one night stay and seemed like I was sitting and waiting when I should have been sitting by the ocean. Thankfully the wind died down enough andbwe were able to sit by the bon fire for a couple hours! View is amazing and room was clean! Maybe will give it another chance since I know what it's capable of.

Great place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of sunrise and sunset. We had an amazing time.

My only complaint is the room was outdated, stains on the chair and frig was really old. The power went out in the city of Marina and hotel didn’t offer a contingency plan beyond an emergency flashlight in the room. Aside from that, service was good as well as our view. We’ll be back but hoping the resort gets a remodel by the time we do.

We always love our stay at this resort. All the people who work here are amazing. I just wish that they would either replace or deep clean some of their old furniture. I mean for $500/night for a 4 star hotel I expect luxury furnishing. The views of the ocean are spectacular and I absolutely love the bonfires. We will for sure be coming back again. :)

We were in need of a little getaway amidst these crazy times. Not only was the resort beautiful and the staff extremely friendly, but we were able to fully relax and rejuvenate.

Other than the mess up with check-in this is the best hotel weve ever stayed at! The suites are gorgeous and its very quiet and relaxing.

Very private and nice hotel. Pricey, but you can get a room right on the little beach bluff overlooking the ocean. There is a wine and cheese hour every day along with a bonfire on the beach. Service is friendly and efficient. No cars allowed near rooms so you are transported via golf cart. The restaurant is fabulous for foodies. Pricey but some meals are large enough to split (half chicken, ocean trout and cowboy steak). The place is half World Mark time share and half Sanctuary Hotel. The hotel part has the better located units and is also pet-friendly. We will definitely return.

This is hands down the most exquisite beach setting resort I have ever visited. With all the amenities, friendly knowledgeable staff, amazing views and beautiful inviting atmosphere… the best in the West hands down. I highly recommend 11/10

Fantastic location. Friendly service. Very well maintained and ran property. Super ocean front suites! Great romantic getaway or spend time with family on the beach and in the pool. We liked it so much, we booked an extra day.

Love this place. Rooms are fantastic. They are very pet friendly. Easy access to Monterey and surrounding areas. On site restaurant is upscaleish but you won't feel out of place in shorts and filp flops. The place IS pricey but it will make you forget any concerns you have waiting for you at home. Falling asleep to the surf is awesome. Parking kinda sucks and is a little inconvenient.

Love this place, great upgrades. Ps happy hour 4-5pm @ the restaurant was nice but you have to remember or ask. Are room wasn’t ready so we decide to get something to eat. After we $$ the waiter mentioned there is happy hour free wine, cheese& fruit. That would have been nice if the front desk would have told us. Still a very nice place to relax.

Such an amazing, and truly beachfront, private resort. While sharing the dunes/beach with a more mainstream chain hotel (Wyndham? ), The Sanctuary is such a private-feeling and intimate resort, having ocean view rooms, and some rooms that are truly waterfront (basically being on the edge of the beach sand). We stayed in a small beachfront bungalow (with a fireplace! ) for my birthday in January 2018, and it was phenomenal! Amazing rooms, great location, and a fantastic beachfront (not to mention beautiful sunsets! ). Tip: Book early!

Way overpriced for the room I paid for The pictures on the website the room you think you paid for is not what you get. I paid extra to have a deluxe ocean view room and the picture had this title over it so I paid the extra. I got a room first off with another structure in front of my view. I called before I traveled to the hotel they assured the gave me a room with no structure. I received a room looking at the dunes and a partial view of ocean barely I would never have paid for this room knowing I got a room with the view and location the provided. The Manager did not acknowledge this was a problem. BE careful if that’s what you are looking at. The bon fire was nice.

We booked two connected rooms here based on photos we saw on the resort website — don't make the same mistake we did. We were given rooms 701 & 601, southwest most rooms on the top floor. The room was run down, dirty, and in need of serious TLC. Among the few things that we noted were a large stain in the foyer, missing vertical blinds and valance, non-functioning sliding bathroom door, two broken lamp fixtures, falling ceiling tiles, sand in the windowsills, dirty windows, thin yellowing bed linens (whatever the opposite of clean crisp fresh linens is), and a 1/2 blocked "panoramic" ocean view (don't settle for this unit if you are paying for a full ocean view! ). These units, from our experience, are nothing like what is shown in the photos. I suppose great lighting, camera angles and touch ups can make any place look much better than it actually is. Also note that the lobby and the restaurant decor/design are fantastic but that the units themselves are nothing like that. Units feel "old" and dirty. We expressed our disappointment to management and they seemed uninvolved and uninterested in our predicament. They did send maintenance to take care of some of the issues but overall our interaction with management felt awkward. As if they after pointing out the problem they were thinking "yeah… and? " We drove from Southern California and we would never return.

So I have always 100% loved this place — no complaints, excellent service, primo location, all of that. But this last time — I left in a hurry without checking the room and left a dirty clothes bag and my dogs food in the closet. When I called them — they said they couldn't find anything and I was truly baffled. I had some nice stuff (obviously someone wanted it) and I was pretty shook simply because it felt like the kind of place (especially since I spent $600/night on the room) that would be prime service. I'm very disappointed.

Well, for us it didn’t start off well. They are remodeling the lobby, so check in was outside. One of the gentlemen that was checking us in had been working there a week, the other three weeks. They stated they would phone us when our room was ready. They did not. We returned at 4 pm… and after waiting ten more minutes to check in, again… the took us to our room. It looks way bigger online, but was perfect for us! We loved it once we had some wine and started to relax. It was super windy the day we arrived and the larger fire pit was closed, but the smaller one was perfect as we were the only ones there having s’mores. Accommodations and location is perfect! We saw a beautiful sunset! Dinner at Salt Wood was fabulous but pricey. Very delicious though. I would highly recommend this resort. They have a heated pool and a juccuzi, so bring your swim suit. We also received the breakfast. It was delicious and came in a picnic basket in case you wanted to go to the beach for breakfast. ($20/per person) We will definitely return. It was a beautiful stay and fabulous accommodations and dog friendly!

Can't beat the beautiful view and relaxing atmosphere. The service from everyone was top notch. Our bell man who was there the whole week was very helpful… I wish I could remember his name. My room 609 had issues with the doors weather stripping that made a loud whistle if the patio door was open. Also the back of the toilet was leaking. We put a towel under it during our stay. Not big issues just thought someone should know. The fiance and I are considering this for a possible wedding venue. We will definitely be back!

Location is great, and a nice addition to the coast for all the locals. Spacious and open is the feel of the restaurant/ oyster bar. Great selection of cocktails, wine and beer. Food menu has a variety of options ex. Chicken, steak, to a cheeseburger. Service was great although it was a busy graduation weekend. Although we were a big group, we all got our food perfectly spaced out. Our entrees all served at once so nobody had to wait for each other to get served, that almost NEVER happens when dining in groups. So I was pretty impressed. Can't wait to be back in a more intimate setting!

We stayed at The Sanctuary Beach Resort in the Oceanfront Deluxe Room in April 2018. Was one of the most beautiful and relaxing places we have ever stayed! Best sleep we have ever had. They also had a Bonfire at night. You would park up front and there were staff at the front office (which is currently under construction) that helped us with our luggage and drive us in golf carts to our room (which I was a little skeptical about at first, but was fine in the end as they would come 24/7). Only thing I could suggest that may need a little improvement was the food there. I loved the idea of selecting your breakfast the night before and hanging the order on your door and they would bring it as room service the next morning, but they did not have many choices for the price. I would suggest offering a full breakfast option at the restaurant there especially if they want to keep the room service breakfast the current way. This is important to me, as when I'm on vacation I want to eat the things I don't like to cook/don't cook often at home (french toast, pancakes, eggs cooked to order, hash browns, breakfast meat, etc). We ended going out to eat breakfast elsewhere. We did have dinner ordered there and delivered to us by the front desk help staff (which was very convenient). Was pretty expensive in my opinion for what we got. Was a fairly limited menu with foods that I feel they were trying to make unique, if you will, and not necessary better.

Absolutely beautiful! Very relaxing. Right on the beach. You can hear the waves from your room. Great restaurant located on-site.

Overpriced way overpriced. Pillows are like rocks blinds on the windows don't cover the whole window so as soon as the sun comes up in the morning bright light is right in your face from the space between the blinds and the window while you are sleeping.

Absolutely beautiful property my aunt has a timeshare here and we've used it several times and will continue to go back. The things that I love the most about that place is the gas barbecue right outside your backdoor and the pool and the spa are always at the perfect temperature and just lovely to enjoy.

Great hotel off the beaten path, nice amenities in the room including fireplace and l'occitane bath products, soft towels and robes, and beach front rooms. Would definitely stay here again!

Great ocean front rooms, with amazing view of the water. There is also an incredibly delicious restaurant on the property, Salt Wood.

This was a very beautiful secluded area. High end with bed turn service. The staff is very friendly and happy to assist with anything while wearing a smile. They have a private beach area and firepits. I highly suggest to stay here and even buy into the time share. Resort stay is more luxurious, however.

Great place to stay in (near) Monterey! It's a little far from cannery row (20 mins) but it's an easy drive. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the views are beautiful. Staff is very friendly.

We really only visited because of the beach here. Had we been interested in staying overnight, the lodging facilities appeared to be well situated on or very near the beach. There is also a nice restaurant within walking distance.

Very nice and romantic. I love the beach bonfires every night! The walkway to the beach is so welcoming. I wish that we could have had parking closer to our room and not alll the way to the main parking lot. I was nervous my car would be broken into all night but all was ok. The front desk was very polite and more than helpful with suggestions for food as well as things to do. I'd come back.

Beautiful views and really inviting and friendly staff. The room was really nice, and lucky for us, was really close to the beach. It was pretty much everything we expected and definitely will be suggesting it to our family and friends.

I recently stayed at the Sanctuary Beach Resort with a friend for the 1st time for the first five days of this year. Our time share unit was very close to the beach which is absolutely beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. We did not experience the restaurant onsite however; we were extremely pleased with having a full kitchen to prepare our meals in daily which was fully stocked with pots, pans, cutlery, cups, etc. Moreover, there was a blackout during our stay where all the power was out on the property. The issue was resolved very quickly (e. G. Maybe 2 hours). It was a minor inconvenience. Additionally, we love walking around the property. My only issue is that the property is pet friendly which is great. But units should be designated to patrons with pets and non-pet units for patrons who may have allergies. There was definitely a scent of dog that we were able to clear within the first 48 hours. But management should keep in mind that all of their patrons aren’t pet friendly. We hope to return soon. One of my favorite places in the world, the nature provide a spectacular experience every time here. The resort have a number of cabins on the beach, and then further cabins back in-land, you definitely want the front line cabins if at all possible the experience of the ocean and wind on the window is hard to beat. Only reason the resort dont get 5 stars is that for some reason the super friendly staff always manage to make one or another major hospitality blunder, the will is there, but somehow the training is a good bit short of a FourSeasons experience. But then again, this is not the four seasons, and to be perfectly fair, at about $300 per night, its a fair bit less expensive than the four seasons for a magnificent stay on the edge of well groomed nature… only downside with reviewing this place. It may be booked next time I want to go. So please don't book, I want that room for myself.

Very welcoming. The panoramic suites are secluded away from traffic. The view is truly spectacular. The breakfast was brought in a picnic basket. It was a lovely getaway for our anniversary.

You won't find such amazing staff and service anywhere else. They truly go above and beyond. They're just simply friendly and caring. Obviously great location, clean and fun rooms, very open. The back patio is on the beach.

The service was great. The rooms were beautiful, cozy and we'll stocked. My favorite was the big comfy bed and the robs were soft and warm. It was like home away from home. Definitely 5 stars.

A wonderful, semi-secluded ocean front resort. Set only 20 minutes away from Monterey, and all the activities there. Each suite is perfectly positioned to give the best view of the Pacific. Great restaurant sits on site and shuttle will be waiting to take you with a short call. The service is fantastic.

This place was warm and inviting! We had very attentive folks help us to our room. And made sure our stay was perfect. They upgraded my room because it was my birthday and it certainly was appreciated. The was very clean and calming. The grounds were lovely… we enjoyed a walk on the beach and time by the fire pit. I wish we could have stayed longer!

Ate dinner at the Salt Wood restaurant. The food was amazing. My wife had the fried chicken and I ordered the seafood boil. Everything was cooked to perfection. For dessert I ordered the corn pudding. I can't describe how delicious it was. Great staff, great cocktail/wine selection, and great view. My wife and I will definitely be coming back soon.

I staying for two nights at Wyndham part of the resort. The room are nice clean and comfortable. Great place to stay with out all the crowds. Great distance form town. And short walk to the beach. Great place to come getaway.

I chose The Sanctuary purely out of Utility. I am beginning working more frequently near the hotel and needed somewhere to stay on a Wednesday night. I found their hotel online and they had a great rate on a room. I called and booked that afternoon. Upon arrival check in was friendly and prompt, I was shown to my room and found it to be very tasteful. The amenities we're good and the room was clean and comfortable with a slight ocean view. I enjoyed a meal at the restaurant that evening which was excellent, in service, setting and quality of food. One point I would like to make; bottled water should really be included daily for guests in the rooms. At a hotel of this standard I have found it to be the norm, expensive mini bar prices for Dasani water (not even mineral water) is not right. The shower in my room was not a proper shower, just a handheld that would only fix facing outward on the wall, not very convenient. Overall my experience was very good, the location is beautiful and the hotel has a nice vibe I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back as I continue to work in the area.

Just north of Monterey right on the beach. Bonfires in the evening with wine, beers and mixed drinks at sunset. Our condo was a little small for a family of 4, but the rooms and views are amazing. The restaurant was under renovation but scheduled to open soon September I believe. Vehicle parking isn't allowed at the condo so they have good carts and chauffeurs to get you back and forth. The drivers are great guys! Looking forward to our return visit!

Waking up to the sound of the ocean is beautiful. I can stay her everyday. The people who work here are wonderful. I recommend this place to any couple trying to get away for a few days. I recommend the beach view rooms with No tenants on top for quietness & relaxation with your partner. Love the walk in the sand & watching the sunset go down. Love this place will diff come back to the resort. 5 star resort.

The facilities are great. The concern was the service and operations. The check-in staff weren't very nice and almost answering questions like we were asking dumb questions. There appears to be lack of communication between the spa and the front desk so we called a few times to get clarification about protocol and recommendations in getting ready for the treatment. Also, it's not really a spa if there aren't amenities. It's really just a place that offers treatments. The bell people (drivers) were the ones with the best customer service skills, giving us an orientation to the grounds, asking if we had any questions or needed anything. It was a pleasant experience. The front desk check-in folks were probably the weakest our of everything offered at this resort.

We have stayed here many times for various occasions and the view, service, and ammenities have always been excellent. However, I was saddened to hear upon check in that you no longer were provided your own personal golf cart. As silly as this little luxury is, it really did put a damper on the stay. While they did hire staff to provide 24hour bell service, having to wait around just wasn't the same as being able to do it yourself on your own time. If you forgot something in your car… had to wait… wanted to go to pool… had to wait… get to the beach access… had to wait. Granted, the grounds aren't that large but with the weather usually cold and windy, being able to jump in your cart made a huge difference. They have been bought out by a larger east coast hospitality company who said the carts were a liability and too expensive to maintain. Also, the restaurant is being completely revamped to a steak and seafood place and is currently closed. This would have been nice to know prior to checking in as we were planning on taking our golf cart to dinner… boo on both counts. We also noticed that the complimentary bottle of wine is no longer given. They also changed out the fire pits out on the beach. I didn't care for the witches Calderon design. The breakfast baskets that we would always order have gone up in price and now have a delivery charge. The view is still great, rooms are still great but it has definitely lost a little of its charm.

Privacy ZERO. The location is great being close to the beaches and close to the center so much to be superfluous the car. Beware though if they give you a ground floor room left side entering. The bathroom is in the room not separated from the bed area. My usual companion after the shower remains naked to put on creams, etc… etc. Here in the evening when we came back we always found the curtain of the window open but outside being nothing (at least so Credavamo) we left so closing only for the night. After quite a few days I realized that outside the window there was a service passage of the restaurant and a man spying inside. If they give you a room ground floor left… pull the curtains well!

This place sucks. We showed up at 4… But had to wait. She suggested we go swim and come back! But they didn't give us towels and there were none there. We came back at 5 and checked in. Then she suggested we go to our car and someone would get us. 15 minutes later he came. Then we got to our room and that was okay, but we went to leave and our golf cart was dead. So we had to walk all the way back to the club house to the car to drive out for dinner. This was suppose to be a present for my girlfriend for her birthday and I drove 10 hours to see her and take her here. She cried for even suggesting such an awful experience. When I talked to the front desk, they simple suggested they'd charge the cart… Still haven't heard back on the cart. Stay far away from here. I won't be back. Not worth the price of admission.

This is a great option for a beach front place to stay in the Monterey area. It is reasonably priced for being on the beach. We stayed for four nights in April 2016 in a beach front junior suite. Check in was good, though I was concerned since there were two people in front of me, both very much complaining and asking for compensation. One couple was trying to check in at 3:00 pm and complained that they had to wait. Check in is at 4:00. We arrived 4:30 and our room was ready. Another person there said there was something wrong with her room and that she 'expected' to get a free dinner. Anyway, I'm glad I got away from those people since they all seemed obnoxious, even if they indeed had problems with the resort. Our check in went just fine and our suite was as expected. There was a complementary, small bottle of wine in the room. The room junior suite was nice and the view spectacular. I think, don't quote me, all beach front junior suites are on the first floor without anyone above you. I think the beach front deluxe shares the same building, also without an upstairs neighbor. The only part of the wall that you actually share between the junior suite and deluxe is the small bar area. So, there should not be noise issues. If the management reads this, it would be nice to have a more detailed description of where the different rooms are and the fact the property is shared with 30 timeshare units.

Very poor customer service. Paying $700 plus for a weekend I would have expected better. I was supposed to get a welcome gift when I arrived, but didn't get it until the second night. When calling the front desk, they couldn't be bothered to answer the call. The safe wasn't working properly, and had to track someone down to repair. Housekeeping was a joke to get a hold of.

This place is very nice, but make sure you ask what the final total will be. You've got a lot of fees and taxes in addition to the room rate, but other than that, beautiful stay. You get your own golf cart to get to your bungalow (like a 4-Plex on the beach). Each room has a Keurig and wet bar, nice bath with robes, you can walk right to the beach with fire pits lit each night by the staff, and you can even take your golf cart to the on-site restaurant.

This place is the best place I have ever stayed at. I proposed to my wife here. It's a awesome place for anniversaries, relaxing or just having a nice quiet time away from everything and looking over the Pacific ocean, Monterey and Santa Cruz. The people that work here are just down right awesome and totally take care of you.

My husband and I booked our room in advance for the weekend of September 12, 13, 14, 2014. We arrived at 4:00 for check-in, which was very pleasant. The girl at the front desk, the bellman and the young man that drove us to our room were great. Very friendly. They took our credit card info to have on file. We reserved a beach front room. It was absolutely beautiful. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The view was amazing. The weather was great. No complaints, so far, so good. Then we went to the Kula Restaurant for happy hour. Waited for 45 minutes for someone to wait on us. Waitress took our drink order and never came back! We left. I would not recommend the restaurant. The service was horrible. Other folks were leaving as well. I don't think the Resort is affiliated with the Restaurant but I just wanted to mention our experience. Saturday morning I received a call from my 85 year old mom that she had fallen and was in the emergency room with a broken hip. Needless to say our little mini vacation was cut short! I explained to the girl at the desk why we were checking out early and she stated that there was nothing they could do to compensate for the $350.00 (approx. ) we had paid for, for Saturday night due to booking with a 3rd party. I didn't have time to ask for a manager — we needed to get going to the hospital which was 4 hours away.

My husband and I stayed at The Sanctuary and it was everything we expected an more. The rooms were extremely nice. Every staff member was very professional and helpful. The only thing that could have made the room better was either a ceiling fan or A/C. Although we had a partial ocean view at night the room was a little warm even w/ the windows open.

My husband and I stayed at The Sanctuary Beach Resort for two nights during our honeymoon. We travelled down the coast and this resort was our favourite by far. As soon as we came in we were warmly welcomed by the staff at the front desk. We were then taken to our room by golf cart (! ). The room was huge, and super clean. We went to their restaurant too and the food and service was great. But what we loved the most was to be able to look at the sunset from our bed! It was so beautiful and romantic. We also saw dolphins swimming on the morning we left and the beach was almost deserted most of the time, which was really nice. We will definitely come back as soon as we can, and hopefully stay more than two days.

I said 2.5 and my wife said 2, so it gets 2 stars. The room was ok, I saw another reviewer complain about the fireplace, which I remember was loud also. There's not a ton to do in the surrounding area, but you get golf carts or whatever to drive around, so theres that. Our biggest complaint was with the restaurant. The service was poor and the food was mediocre. Definitely not worth eating at considering what's within 20 miles.
