Beautiful gardens, amazing inn keepers and walking distance to Mendocino!

Lorraine and I stayed here when visiting beautiful Mendocino. What a wonderful place to stay when you travel here. The staff and the wonderful cottage we had couldn't have been better. We will come back. Thanks to the wonderful hosts at Joshua Grindle.

Kate and Kenny are wonderful people. Very kind and thoughtful. They made us feel right at home and told us about many interesting things to do in the area. And we did lots of them. If you’re lucky enough to have Ken take you to one of his favorite sunset locations you will be amazed and delighted! The food was delicious and the staff were all very kind and accommodating. The overall experience was 5 stars. We will definitely be coming back to the Joshua Grindle Inn.

Such a special place we felt so comfortable and Lindsay and Jeff and their adorable dog Lorenzo were the nicest and we cannot thank them enough. They have a special place in our hearts as well for loving and taking care of our daughter Morgan who works there on occasion. Xxoo.

Lovely location, accommodations, and innkeeper/owners. Cypress Cottage South was so comfortable and the walk into town was easy (only about 2 blocks). Breakfast each morning was delicious. We will stay here again if ever in the area.

We had a 3 night stay and loved every day. The Inn is homey and comfortable with some really nice amenities (fireplace, comfortable bed, oversized room). The breakfast was different and delicious every day. We also met some really nice people. The parlor and breakfast room fostered good conversation each day. Lindsy and Jeff were great! We also loved Mendocino. We had never been there before. It is beautiful with gorgeous views, great hiking trails, wonderful restaurants and a quaint village. We would go back.

My husband and I had SUCH a lovely stay here. The room (Water Tower 1) was extremely clean and spacious. The free breakfast was an added bonus. The property is just so beautiful and it was a great escape from city life!

Perfectly peaceful stay. Great recommendations for restaurants and secret hiking trails from the hosts. Within easy walking distance of Main St. And how could I forget — — the breakfast each morning was SO delicious. An added bonus of hot coffee being ready each morning and warm chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon!

The owners have a little slice of heaven here. It was charming! It was close to town yet you felt miles away from everything. I would recommend this B&B to anyone headed to Mendocino. We will definitely be back.

Very quaint and accomadating.

Headed to the coast for a much needed break and were totally delighted with this wonderful bed and breakfast. The location is within easy walking distance of Mendocino, (a couple short blocks) and spectacular beach and meadow views. We had the 'Master' room and it was not just charming, it featured a jacuzzi bathtub, a usable fireplace and a view of the garden which was stunning this time of year. Innkeepers were very helpful, friendly and welcoming. They made reservations for us at the local restaurants as well as for an on site massage in their own studio. Even the guests were classy, ready to chat but not intrusive. We will be back!

Awesome little B&B here in Mendocino. Easy walk to all the attractions in the village, and on a super quiet lot. At night, it gets super dark and super quiet here at the Inn, and it felt like we had our own little cabin (we stayed in Cypress Cottage South) There's a little room with tea and bottled waters, nice private parking on a tucked in lot towards the back of the property. My wife thoroughly enjoyed their gardens, the assortment of friendly cats on the property, and the owners dog, Lorenzo, who is just so affectionate and comes right up to guests with a wagging tail.
Breakfast is served family style around a long table in the kitchen area, and was very good. Quiche, sausages, potatoes, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, juice, and really fresh coffee, there is a lot to choose from. Owners were nice and chatting with the fellow guests around the table in the morning was fun. Recommended for a relaxing weekend in Mendo.

We love the Joshua Grindle Inn. We first stayed here in 1997 when we lived in Marin County. We now live in Dallas, Texas and made a pilgrimage back here after 19 years for our anniversary. Nothing had changed except for new owners. It has great charm, is nicely maintained and walking distance from the town or coast. We hopefully will get back again before another 19 years pass. Half the fun is driving here. Coming from Cloverdale, it's about an hour of switchbacks, winding road and hairpin turns. This is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, an opportunity for those who truly love to drive. The first time we came here I was driving a Mustang GT (6-speed stick). This time we had a Mercedes SLK. Either one is great for this drive, but a stick means you have a lot more control.

Peaceful little B&B close to the highway. Great breakfast and clean, comfortable room. Very nice proprietors!

Loved it! Good food, warm, friendly innkeepers and a beautiful location. We enjoyed walking down through the village to the beach and experiencing the gorgeous views. (We got some great, early morning photos of the coast. ) We stayed in the "Cypress Cottage North" which is a snug little building between the main house and the water tower. It has a beautiful garden and the neighbor's horses make it feel like the countryside. It's very quiet and private, a perfect get away spot.

Large, clean room with a nice tub and shower. The innkeepers, Jeff and Lindsey, were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. The location was fantastic, just off the highway but still private with a very short walk to the village. And they have an onsite massage studio. Great place for a relaxing getaway.

Jeff and Lindsey were exceptional. Beyond accommodating. Very comfortable beds. Very clean rooms. The breakfast was also excellent. I highly recommend staying here and will be back in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at Joshua Grindle Inn. I cannot say enough nice things about this place! It's within walking distance to the beach and just absolutely gorgeous! Jeff and Lindsey were so friendly and kind. The food is superb and very filling. The room is beautifully decorated and quite comfortable. We stayed at the library. The location was perfect, quiet and within walking distance to everything. Highly recommended to friends and family. Can't wait to return.

Update august 2015. New owners Jeff and Lindsey are off to a very good start. Our room (Tower 1) was perfect and spotless. Generous fresh cooked breakfasts offering bacon, eggs, yogurt, granola, juices, coffee, muffins, etc. Lindsey makes a great quiche. Grounds were full of blooming flowers thanks to Glenna. The intro rate for the reopening offers a great value ($169 weekday $199 weekends) so come soon before they are raised. On site parking is a big plus, almost no other inns in Mendocino have that convenient benefit. Free bottled water. Complimentary cookies and assorted teas in the cozy parlor 24/7. Lovely property. Gracious hospitable innkeepers. We will come again for sure. ***************************************************************************************************************** We have been coming to the Joshua Grindle Inn for twelve years and it never ever disappoints. I've been to other very nice north coast inns but the Joshua Grindle is truly the best. Charles and Cindy, the owners, sincerely want all their guests to have a wonderful stay and they work hard to achieve that goal. Our last visit was last weekend. Foggy mornings gave way to warm sunny days as they usually do this time of year. Once we headed to Mendocino to celebrate New Years with daunting forecasts of rain. Just as in prior years, the rain was intermittent and finally ceased giving us glorious sunny days and crystal clear winter ocean views.

Joshua Grindle Inn epitomizes everything about the B&B experience. From a warm welcome, to caring and helpful conversation, to the most effective "concierge service", the attention to the guests is truly extraordinary. It is well maintained, clean and well run by people who truly care. The room was well equipped and so comfortable it was hard to leave. We enjoyed the walking distance to the restaurants and the water.

All the staff at Joshua Grindle Inn are fabulous and make you feel right at home. They are extremely knowledgeable about the area (I think Cindy said that they had lived there for about 17 years), and aren't afraid to give their honest opinions on what is actually fun to do there. My parents and I took a vacation to celebrate my dad's birthday. They were in one of the Cypress rooms and I was in the Meadow View room. The Cypress room was spacious but cozy. Queen bed, gas fireplace and a gorgeous bathroom with a soaking tub with jets and a separate shower. The Meadow View room was a little bit smaller, but just as lovely. I think the best part of both room was the attention to detail, down to a small towel by the coffee maker in case of any spills. Cindy and Charles make breakfast every morning, which made us feel so special. Some of the breakfast items we had were artichoke souffle, homemade waffles with bananas, and sausage made from scratch. Joshua Grindle Inn is not located right in the main area of town (like some of the other inns), but the downtown area is so small that it is really only a 5 minute walk (if that) to get into the main hub. If you're looking for a quiet home away from home while you are in Mendocino, this is it. Thank you for your hospitality!

My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at Joshua Grindle. Our room, South Cypress, had that Victorian charm with a fireplace, rocking chair, and modern bathroom to boot. The breakfast was delicious, and we got great suggestions from Cindy on things to do in Mendocino. The Inn is walking distance to downtown yet you still definitely feel like you're out in the country. Two thumbs up!

We have been traveling to CA every year for the past 30 years to escape the Northeast winter and for 28 years we have spent 3 or 4 days in Mendocino. We can't imagine staying anywhere but the Joshua Grindle Inn! Charles and Cindy are the perfect innkeepers — warm, friendly and full of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. They are also consummate professionals. The historic inn with its surrounding gardens is beautifully maintained, the rooms are immaculate, the breakfasts are fabulous and then there are the little touches — a welcome bottle of wine, high end toiletries, cookies and sherry in the afternoon, guidebooks and games in the parlor, and a refrigerator for guests to use in the back. Once you are there you really don't even need a car. It's a three block walk into town with its shops, galleries, restaurants and theater and an easy walk around the Headlands where, depending on the season, you can watch the whales go by. I cannot recommend this inn too highly — it's a real treasure!

My husband and I visited the Joshua Grindle Inn for our anniversary last year. We arrived to find a lovely (shared) parlor, complete with sherry to enjoy, and in our private room a nice bottle of merlot. The bed was comfortable, the room nicely decorated and the whole inn was very cozy and inviting. In the morning we enjoyed breakfast on the wrap-around porch and got lots of advice on what to check out in the area. The food was freshly prepared and delicious and the hosts very gracious. Joshua Grindle Inn is everything a bed and breakfast should be! Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing anniversary weekend!
