On the high end of Marriott properties, the expectations are pretty high, but they delivered and with flying colors. The JW gets the 5 star bump for the total package they provide. Upon entering, you are greeted with an expansive Fourier and a nicely set up welcome desk. The area's incredibly bright, which was nice on the sunny day we arrived. The three concierge desks are located in the entry way on the way to the elevators making it accessible and easy to grab dinner tips. The rooms were, simply stated, incredible! They're large, have great work space with a large desk and plenty of outlets and lights. A 42 inch plasma screen graced the room which had ample relaxing space with the midsize couch at the far end. The bed was great w/ plenty of pillows and everything you expect from the higher end Marriotts. Bathroom was very modern, but didn't skimp on the space — a huge plus as most places have gone modern at the expense of staying true to the American way of giving space to spread out — If I wanted a tiny bathroom w/ a square toilet, I'd move to London, but that's another talk! The shower was large and had a nice, big shower head. Water didn't get super hot so for those of you looking to steam your clothes, wake up a few minutes early to iron. Food in the lobby was solid, not great and fairly pricey. $17 for a burger and fries is steep, but to their credit, the sweet potato fries were excellent and the pre-meal bread was fresh made, unique and fancy — two delicious breadsticks way up! Meeting rooms are all located on the 3rd floor and many across the skybridge on the other side of the road. Very nice meeting spaces — pretty standard for what you'd expect from a place like this. Great location in LA Live with more restaurants that I could shake a stick at and we got to see the folks camping out for the twilight opening… the next week. Whatever floats your boat! Trader Vic's (Home of the Mai Tai) is next door and well worth checking out. Note: They offer late check outs, but only until 1 pm after which time it's $25 an hour. Additionally, you have to grab another key from the desk as yours will deactivate at 12. Overall, the experience here was what you've come to expect from a high end Marriott. A quality experience, friendly staff, great accommodations and a location that can't be beat if you've only got a few days in town. It's a very pricey place, but if you're down, have points or someone else is footing the bill, definitely a place you should check out!
