I just got back after a short stay at Hotel Inglaterra, and I loved it. The hotel is located down a street from Placa de Catalunya, which is right at the start of Las Ramblas. This location is better than it sounds because it allows the hotel to be slightly cheaper than the ones on the Ramblas, while also being close enough to the action. And if you wanted to go further afield, it is also close to a metro station. The metro is fairly straightforward to use, with stations being colour coded and numbered. This isn't a review of the metro though, so moving on: It is surrounded by buildings on all sides, so you won't get much of a view unless you're on the upper floors. Still, the room finishing was very impressive, and I'm somewhat partial to city life, so that is not a complaint at all. (We stayed on the first floor and were informed that it had recently been renovated, your stay on other floors may be different) The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet in the restaurant located in the basement, however I didn't like the food too much — The cold food such as pastries and cereal etc were fine, but the bacon in particular was a disappointment. Otherwise, it was just okay. There is room service but it is only available after the breakfast buffet has ended, at 11.30am. The hotel also has a pool located on the top floor, however the pool was more like a large tub, or a jacuzzi if you were feeling generous (no bubbles though! ). It was just big enough for maybe four people. The reception desk staff were also friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about Barcelona in general, and were quite accomodating — We had specifically requested a room with a view but upon arriving the reception was not aware that a request had been made, let alone what the request was. Their efforts at redressing this were well received. I highly recommend this hotel.
