Absolutely gorgeous! We recieved a warm welcome, our room was impeccable and the bathroom sparkling. The friendly staff made us feel welcome and at home. The food was well prepared and delicious. The bus 7 minute bus tour is a must and very entertaining.

Only had lunch which was great — was passing by and visited the Royal house accompanied by an awesome gentleman who made sing with him. Loved it.

Great homely accommodation and service, and Matjiesfontein is a wonderful stop over for history buffs.

Such a lovely olde world charm type of place. The accommodation is so comfortable and the staff are super efficient and friendly. The food is superb and the wines reasonably priced. Love Johnny and his bus tour, piano playing and ghost stories.

Such an historical town! Just enjoy walking through the town and seeing the old Victorian buildings. Such a wonderful atmosphere.

Very welcoming, historical and friendly bus tour at 17h30, known as the shortest 10min tour in the world, followed by a live piano performance by John the tour guide, at the Laird's Arms pub. Around 19h00 we moved from the pub to the dining hall to enjoy the amazing food. Lamb shank, pork belly, well prepared and great taste.

Lovely old Victorian Hotel, rich in history. Loved the red bus ride in the late afternoon, followed by an hour or so in the old pub. Dinner in the dining hall is a splendid affair, and if I may be so bold, Karoo lamb is to die for here. Breakfast was also a grand treat. The rooms was rather average though, nothing special there.

Cool place but a bit run down. Could definitely do with a deep clean in the cottages behind main hotel. Other than that the nostalgia was fun and setting super cool. Like a wild west movie. Be sure to bring some drinks with you as bar closes early and restaurant offerings are slim.

Also a must stop. By road by train just get there. The pub is great. The tour of the Milner manor is a great extra. Wow. The inside is like walking back into history.

A beautiful hotel and historic landmark. Hotel is well looked after, rooms were quite lovely and the food delicious. Service was quick and efficient.

A wonderful experience of a bygone era. Beautifully restored old buildings, good food, great atmosphere and a wonderful pub. And the tour guide on the red bus was extremely entertaining. He also has a great voice and provided the entertainment in the pub.

Great point to stop over on your way to the Karoo National Park. You can book and have breakfast there! Breakfast is in the form of a buffet and is absolutely delicious! Wide range of preserves, juice and hot food! The setting reminds you of an extremely English hotel! The small town is brilliant and virtually untouched. Check out the railway museum while you are at it.

Stayed overnight at The Lord Milner, we were blown away by the service, the staff, the facilities. It felt as though you took a step back in time everything has been kept to it's most original state. We were entertained by Johnny in the pub, and then taken on a historical tour of the hotel. Dinner in the hotel is a foodies delight. Well done to all, keep up the great work. We hope to come again in the future.

A real treat to stay in a town drenched in history, a little oasis of cool in the dusty karoo. The station town is a treat! Its dogleg arrangement presents a diverse building mix crowned by the architectural splendour of the verandah hotel adorned with its steel ornament. Beyond the an magnificent staired lobby lie precincts of courtyards which create an inner private secret gardened realm. Generous lounge and reading rooms present a set of tranquil zones for use especially for those of us that run from the city in a quest for silence. The food was delicious — the staff friendly — the rooms delightful! Take some books, a costume, leave your watch behind and immerse yourself in the purple moutains, a jewellery box sky — it is a real treat! Highly recommended!
