The staff was very friendly, the hotel was super clean, the food was delicious friendly environment, its good for every kind of people, its a place to visit and the Internet was a bonus.

Outstanding welcome by the staff, they sang the theme song from Shaka Zulu it was simply amazing. Spacious rooms and oh did I mention amazing staff. Thank you BON hotel.

The service, the food, the staff, the untidyness of the place. Food was raw, salad smelled as hell, to think my mom hosted a retirement party with her colleagues for their colleague last night it was a crappy place.

The restaurant together with kitchen staff, well done. Grilled meet instead of steaming, with great presentation as well as fresh food.

Still carries Protea deco which is real nice in the lobby and rooms. Lots of front desk staff, one too many and their mirth reached my ground floor room just around the corner. Catering at the restaurant was good for me, not unnecessarily intrusive even though there're too were many waiters. I enjoyed room service, real fast with attractively served dishes. Unfortunately maintenance checks aren't as good. Shower gushed out in uneven splattering ways. Heavy bath towel but super absorbent. Comfy bed, varied lights to choose intensity. Air con which cooled the room nicely when I was at the desk but draughty direct to my nose when I was in bed. Well kempt gardens. Friendly prompt staff at the gates.

Staff does not pay particular attention to guests needs. Their level of flexibility to things/rules guests were unaware of need to be accommodated.

Beautiful and clean service was first class.

We had two connected rooms that were listed as wheelchair friendly, they were NOT wheelchair friendly. My father couldn't get into the shower, and he couldn't even get to the basin. Other than that, the rooms were nice and neat, the bathrooms were stunning but were far too small. Unfortunately, we were in room two and three, close to the reception, the other guests were HORRENDOUSLY loud and obnoxious well into the early hours of the morning, so we couldn't even get a good night's sleep. The staff, however, were very friendly and very helpful and the ONLY reason I'm not giving our stay a one-year review, but unfortunately we will not be staying here again.

The service is a bit odd at times, but it has a comfortable bed and hot water!

First time in South Africa so I can't compare to other places. Place is clean and in good condition. Comfortable room. No sound protection on the walls/ door and all the possible noise is disturbing (perhaps this is normal in SA? ). For example the television from the next room can be heard easily. Key card for the room door works only one day at a time. Why? This I cannot understand. Service, especially in the restaurant is. Kind of slow and not very good for an European standards. Its like they are trainees almost all of them. When paying the room bill they could not separate the restaurant bill from the room charge.

I have had to stay at Protea Empangeni for a total period of 10 weeks altogether. The people there are warm and friendly. I love going there, as the people have become an extension of my family. The food is mouthwatering literally. The Head Chef Candice doesn't just prepare food, she transports you back to your childhood, with all the love she puts into her dishes. Especially the lamb curry and broccoli and cauliflower dishes at dinner time. The waiters and restaurant management, Siybonga and Gerhard, really takes WONDERFUL care of you. If they could carry you on their hands they would. WOW … The chef at breakfast does the most amazing omelette with cheese, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. You need to definitely try it if you are not allergic to any of the mentioned ingredients. All the waiters knew what I liked and went the extra mile to make sure that it was always stocked. The reception staff in the Hotel, are always going above and beyond the call of their normal scope of duty, to make you feel extra special. The rooms are always neat and always serviced. They provide you also with a laundry service. The only down part is that not all the rooms have all the TV channels connected. In some rooms the M-Net channel is not functioning But I don't ever mind it, as I am not into M-Net that much really. All the air conditioners in the all rooms are functioning.

Clean rooms', friendly staff and great breakfast.

My husband and I were on a roadshow over easter driving from one province to the other and had to find last minute accommodation in Empangeni. I called the Protea hotel and was assisted by Sbo who did his best to secure a room for us even though we had not made arrangements in time. He really gave us good service. The following morning we were so much in a rush and mistakenly left our suitcase at the hotel and only discovered this three hours after we left the hotel. We immediately called and spoke to Gugu, the housekeeping manager. She assured us that our bag will be kept safe until we are able arrange courier services to collect it. When our bag was delivered to our house nothing was missing. I really would like to thank Gugu for the role she played in ensuring that our bag was safely kept and handed over to the courier service company. Thank you thank you thank you!
