I am very impressed by the beauty of this place! Very clean and cool, the beach view is breath taking. The place is family friendly the play area for the children. The security is of a high standards. Came one came all to have piece of mind and enjoy!

Safe and in the heart of marine world. However parking is a bit limited, and building need some renovations. Otherwise its neat and acceptable.

Been to this beautiful place many times loved it till the last time had the worst stay ever spoke to Pravika she was the manager that call me after my stay no reply after that its been 2 months now. worst place ever will never go there ever.

What a wonderful surprise! Spent two nights camping there on our way through. Plenty of trees, shade and lots of birds. Good ablutions with many facilities included. Lovely beach almost deserted. As well as pensioners discount.

We had a very wonderful stay in this establishment for a weekend. It is in a very secure and tranquil area. Lovely sea views. Along the railway ❤️. Wonderful and helpful staff that made us feel at home. Spacious rooms with the necessities. The inhouse spa has lovely staff as well, we had nail treatments there ❤️

Excellent service from the team. I had checked in the day after the Durban July and the guests had checked out late. The staff then made a plan and moved me to another room just so I didn't have to wait. The buffets had variety. The private beach walks were lovely. The only minus was that the train station was right in front so if you are sensitive, the trains going through may bug you. It didn't bother me since I pretty much tune out noise like this.

Wonderful experience. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They were also very accomodating with dietary requirements. This was much appreciated.

Hotel which is a walk to the sea, very homely though there is railway which is barely used. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Food is so good and also views are great.

I stayed here in April 2018. Some good points like clean road and friendly service for the most part. There were some things that will make me never stay here again. I stayed in room 105 at the stairs, which carried the nose from the lobby resulting in it being very noisy until about 11pm. The aircon inlet must be right above the kitchen which means the room stank of cooking oil in the morning.

We chose this hotel for the ideal location in that it was closest to a secluded beach, and offered facilities that were child-friendly. The staff however should be trained on the welcoming and the manner in which they choose to communicate to guest — it is highly presumptuous to strictly enforce Zulu as a language to your guest. The food that was offered for breakfast was ridiculous at R175p/p, the bacon was hard, muffins and scones not well baked, the watermelon that was on the buffet spread was sour — we opted to rather eat out for the duration of our stay, which is a pity, because you can capitalize on having guests be comfortable in the hotel space and able to enjoy added perks like room service. The hotel staff was annoying in trying to sell us the procard whilst also trying to have dinner on our first night — we asked for privacy, but again on and on in Zulu trying to really push sales — due to this — and not respecting your guests — making remarks toward our child even after being requested to stop — house keeping was not consistent — sometimes towels were put, at other times, no clean towels were provided… same as with the bottled water. Not respecting our DND sign, and being overall erratic on the housekeeping times as well.

Lovely place to get away from the noise of everyday busy life. Private beach on offer with lifeguards for safety. The service is a bit slow and lacking, maybe it has to do with the very laid back and casual atmosphere. Great place for families, was a great place for our son's first vacation (18months). The staff was great with him too.

Amazing time the second time around loved the short holiday feel! Kids and families kept busy with loads of fun and entertainment. Amazing service from the General Manager and her team! The food from room service was the best I've ever had! And then there is the buffet breakfast, lunch and supper out of this world taste and variety! Nothing much has changed since I last stayed at this Protea Hotel. Staff were very accommodating and the meals were ok. Lots of room for improvement.

Lovely holiday spot. Self catering chalets and a camping site apart from the hotel. Very central with shops close by. Jungle gym play area, putt putt, gym, squash courts and a lovely pool are just some of the amenities.

Took my father there on Saturday night (03/02/18) for dinner, the food was terrible and service slack, I will definitely not be going back. Pork chops tasted like half a bottle of steak and chop spice were put on them they were so salty and the baked potato was nothing but a cold, par-boiled potato rewraped in tinfoil, not the 3-star meal you are expecting and paying for, awful! What a great break away place. In the beach front — private beach I might add. It was stunning. We had a great time and we just chilled while taking in the surroundings.

Noise is a bit much. Not the hotel's fault that kids are running around, knocking on doors screaming at 5 in the morning… Love the direct access to the beach! Reception was not very happy to help us with check in so late due to accidents and rain. Didn't inform us about anything other than the new years party… unloaded and took the baggage trolly to my room by myself at 11:30 at night and 8 hours driving. In room dining unfortunately also not worth the price you pay. Other than that… we were very happy. Room service fast. Clean room. Easy access to the beach and safe with nice pools!

Hotel located near the umgababa rural community. Hotel along N2 south which is visible. The hotel facing sea view and it has access to the beach. Hotel clients just walk to the beach which is safe with access gate. Hotel has swimming pool, conference centre and rooms. Those interested in outdoor life this is suitable place with lodges. Really nice hotel tucked away from the busy city, but not too far. Lovely gardens, pool area, tasty food, friendly staff & stunning rooms with such comfy beds! Nice place if you want to relax and unwind & good with families.

The service was great I enjoyed my stay and my kids loved it and enjoyed the place my mother is over the moon it a clean and up to standard hotel.

Wonderful service, beautiful hotel, clean and right in front of the beach. I got a room on the second floor — facing the sea. My kids love it here. And the deck to the beach make the walk to the beach even more lively and exciting. This not too far from the city centre, but away from the city centre and this is what I love about it. It's beautiful.

The service at this hotel is excellent. From the time you arrive you are greeted with warmth. Their buffet meals are amazing. Long walks on the beach or some down time at the spa is a great way to relax and unwind. Will definitely visit again!

Very poor bar service. Ordered cocktails, they did not have cocktail glasses. When paying R 70.00 a cocktail I expect good service and proper glasses.

Our waiter was not friendly at all. Forgeting our orders and being rude to us when we were asking something. Other than that the food was very nice cooked to perfection. Their setup is wonderful. Suggestion as it is winter there is sun in the seating are afternoon, if that can considered for your improvements.

Not Protea Standard. Would like to say that the only reason we started making use of Protea Hotels was on recommendation of joining Prokard and enjoying the benefits of Protea Hotels SA. Sadly to say that the very 1st use was completely different to expectations. … I would like to say that it's not the staff! 1st.
We made arrangements for early check-in and was give the ok… Just to arrive and had to wait after leaving Bloemfontein @ 3am direct drive. 2nd.
Checked in and settled in… Placed a order for room service for 8 siders for R260.00… Had to phone again and ask what happened to our order… Had to place again and total waiting time was almost full hour… Room service? 3rd.
Left for drive to the shops and came back to find the card isn't working walked down to reception. Was helped and card was activated… Then firmly told to not have card near phones and reminded to place order from bar and not reception… But not the bar or kitchen answering calls at all! Really… Had excellent supper and to bed for next day… 4th
Left around 9am to return at 4pm… Only to find the room same way as we left it… Really where should we go while we are forced to wait for the room… Same as when we arranged for early check-in… 5th.
Room service for supper NO answer had to speak to reception and ask to place order…
Order came but the only thing right was the order written on the invoice… Ordered Curry of the day and got mushrooms?

Food terrible, room 105 disappointing (aircon not working dripping water whole night, toilet could not flush, room service pathetic). I was really disappointed had booked on 3rd of April.

Quiet, beatiful — great spot for a break away from the city hustle and bustle.

A good hotel with friendly staff. We enjoyed our evening meal at the restaurant but felt that it was overpriced. Being so close to the beach was lovely and we enjoyed our long walks in the morning and evening. Did not enjoy the train station, but did enjoy the views. So they balanced out.

I had booked the buffet for sunday luch for my family as a birthday treat. I was very disappointed by the food and the general presentation of same. The buffet was very limited, having only chicken curry and fish, there was also two roasts. The food was not refilled and had to ask numerous times for it to be replenished. At some point there was both yellow and white rice. Shocking to say the least. No tarter sauce for fish and overall the food was very bland and unappetising. I would suggest the menu and the chef be reviewed as the standard has dropped significantly.

The hotel is lovely with an amazing huge pool but the beach is a long walk away and the restaurant is very pricey.

We enjoyed ourselves here, we r looking forward to come back here again, thanks to everyone your hospitality awesome & keep up the good work.

Was there for leadership seminar for 4 days, this is good hotel in every aspects, even conference rooms were up to standard so yea this is a good place to be, I oove their way of serving food it serves well the motion of unity and socialism.

My husband and stayed at the Protea Hotel Karridene Beach from the 27 February to 1 March 2015 and we have never experienced such wonderful hospitality. It was my husband's 81st birthday and they surprised him with champagne and chocolates. What a lovely gesture. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The food superb and the rooms clean and comfortable. Brenda from Marketing was efficient and friendly. Having stayed in various hotels in South Africa and overseas I rate the Protea 10 out of 10. Thank you for a truly wonderful weekend Protea.

Good venue, Beach was lovely and the staff was very helpful. well deserved 5 star service.

Cheaper hotel in the region, but it's age is showing. The staff is friendly. Lack of power points in my room (none on the desk) meant that my laptop couldn't be used while on wall power. The hotel is next to a Metrorail train station which is noisy at times.

I was fortunate to go to Durban on a trip and stay at 4 different hotels. Of these 4 hotels the group I was with stayed at this hotel for the longest period. (About 2 weeks). Since our stay was a lengthy one we were looking forward to rooms with nice views since this hotel overlooked the beach. Just my luck that myself and a colleague got the only 2 rooms facing the swamp at the back of the hotel. They eventually gave us sea view rooms after we complained about looking at a swamp for 2weeks. We also had all sorts of problems with the electronic keys and had to have them recoded almost every day. Our group occupied more than half of the hotel. During a storm the power of the hotel went out. There were no emergency lights to see where one was going. During this same storm 2 of our rooms got flooded. We had people walk into our rooms in the middle of the night. The staff were more than incompetent and one had to say things 5 times before they understood english. There were not enough Ice buckets in the hotel and in the time we were there, there was no attempt made to acquire more. I also found that in the morning I would wake up itching and I would love to suggest they do something about the flee infestation. Because this hotel is isolated from the rest of civilization they tend to charge you 2 arms and 2 legs at the hotel for anything ordered ie. Room service, drinks at the bar etc. They are actually more expensive than the Hilton as far as room service goes.
