Awesome service from all the staff, but a special mention must be made of Pearl. She is an absolute diamond and an asset to the hotel. Beautiful views and a stunning and clean hotel. Made our wedding anniversary extra special.

Not allowing the public to have dinner at your restaurant because we didn't have a booking. We were forced to buy a room in order to gain access to the restaurant. Absolutely unacceptable! And worst of all, the hotel wasn't even full. As regular customers I will definitely think twice before booking here again.

Hotel is good for tourists, nature at best.
They must improve on Food, remember government officials have certain rules if they don't have buffer we struggle with Alcatel menu, B&B that serves dinner they cook for 5 people why can Clarens do that, we are 11 officials from govmnt we expect to have buffer.

Very Friendly & helpful staff. Only negative is there rate per day is too high in relation to B&B that offer exact accomadation.

Very efficient staff, beautiful view, potent air conditioner, comfortable bed, nice big shower (fine if you're alone in the room, because it is part of the room and not private) TV with some dstv channels, Wi-Fi, coffee/tea facility, fridge in room, balcony with table and chairs where you can enjou the lovely view, swimming pool if needed, restaurant with room service, a bit pricey but my foid was delicious. Overall a good experience.

We stayed over last Saturday and were super excited! The staff are very friendly but the food was not great. We got frozen, thick Carpaccio and when we spoke to the chef about it, she told us that they are trying something new. It was really not up to par. Service was extremely slow. Rooms were very neat and tidy. The dining experience affected our stay unfortunately.

It was my Birthday tonight and we decided to celebrate it with them but I must say we had the worst buffet every. The food was cold they only had a few types of meat and they are refill system was very slow. I was really disappointed with the food there. Some changes needs to be done…

Hotel staff are extremely pleasant. Special mention to George and especially Nadine. Nadine is a gem and any hotel is lucky to have her. Having travelled to almost 30 countries and stayed at countless hotels, I can safely say that the service at Protea Clarens is world class.

The food is terrible, I doubt they even have a chef. Breakfast is made a the night before around 11pm, we could smell food being cooked at that time. Most of the food on the menu isn't even available!

The service from the hotel staff was second to none. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Having stayed at hotels all over the world — this was very impressive. Very rare to find in SA. Well done to the GM, as well as special thanks to John and Lizzy.

We had a very pleasant stay with my wife and one child. Staff went the extra mile, friendly service, lovely buffet breakfast until 10:30 and a perfect setting in the heart of Clarens. Wifi a bit slow 2 Meg.

Nothing special about this Protea Hotel… max 3 stars… overpriced in terms of room rates… you can stay in Clarens for much cheaper! Only benefit is that it is walking distance from the square… try out Castello Catharina instead!

Stunning hotel with the friendliest staff who will go out of their way for any of your needs. Very professional and modern too for a quaint little town in Clarens.

The food and the service makes up this place Gas fire to keep you warm in the lobby and walk into town makes you feel like your in a olden day film well worth a stop.

Great place to stay with amazing mountains views all around. Has a restaurant attached for both buffet and set dinnings. Great location for a proper getaway.

Great hotel in a convenient location, in the most beautiful little town! Rooms were clean and the service was outstanding. The view from the executive rooms are amazing! Sufficient and safe parking right by the front door. Definitely recommended if you need a decent place to stay for a night or two! The Lindt chocolates on the bed did it for me ☺️

Went for dinner on a Sunday. Gorgeous views. Average food. Decent service. Very quiet when we arrived around 5pm. Wasn't charged for corkage but it could be because we were served steak that wasn't given a chance to breathe from the vacuum seal thus making it taste off.

My room was a bit noisy due to the air conditioning beneath the window. Good food and very nice atmosphere. I recommend to take the breakfast on the terrace in the sun with view on the mountains.
A gym would be nice, especially for the customers who are there for car testing (because they are sitting all day long in the cars)

What a wonderful stay! Best matress I have ever slept on away from home. Clean crisp linen on bed. Clean and neat rooms. Wounderful service orientated staff — they are well trained indeed. First time ever I am 100% satisfied after a stay! I can get really picky and irritated quickly, but this hotel knows their stuff! Compliments to management and trainers. Excellent food as well (I sometimes struggle because I'm vegetarian, but was pleasantly surprised)

Very nice hotel but the room was under average. No bar fridge. Basic accommodation. The hotel service was very good and the food was excellent.

The hotel is situated in a great location within Clarens as you are able to walk around the town without needing to use a car. Hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Beautiful hotel inside and out! Great undercover parking available for guests! We have a lovely spacious room with a balcony overlooking the beautiful landscape and swimming pool! The breakfast was of a good standard. The staff was friendly and helpful! The bedding is amazing insuring that you have a good night's rest! It is also walking distance from the town square and all that Clarens has to offer! You will not be disappointed booking here.

Wow so impressed with the service level at this Protea. Every single person we came into contact with was really genuinely helpful. As expected food was excellent. Cappuccino was the best I have ever had. Well done Protea Clarens. You guys are doing an awesome job.

Not very clean but excellently situated away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. Nestled in the Maluti mountains with picturesque view. Hopefully they can clean rooms better.

Almost all Protea Hotels are good as thy offer there standard theme of good rooms and similar food but the experience at Clarens was awesome. What makes it awesome is from the time you arrive till you leave its a hassle free experience as the staff are the awesomeness. From reception to food and accomodation loved the attention of overall experience and ambience.

I liked staying here. Clean rooms and tasty breakfast. They help with luggage.

Just dont try to book with your Prokard, since its been managed by Marriot it is impossible to get a booking… Been a member of Prokard for 5 years and all was ok… until the Marriot merger… but Protea hotel in Clarens itself is nice.

Although pleasant rooms the admin is a bit up the creek. They told us breakfast was not included in our rate but on the third day (after eating breakfast elsewhere) one of the staff suddenly found out breakfast was included. We did not get a refund in any way.

The place is located in tranquil area halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. The reception is warm and food is superb. Hotel is accommodating to the individual needs of the guest. Next time I am at Clarens I will surely book myself there.

People were very friendly, you had everything you needed in your room. We also tried the roomservice and the food was good, but there can be a bit of a waiting time. But in general, had a good stay.

Lovely ambience, good food and friendly staff. Reasonable price. Good value for money.
