Terrible service from By The Way Guesthouse (Clarens) I received the worst service from the owner of the guesthouse. I booked my trip for 3 to 7 Jan, 3 months in advance in October. I paid for it on the 1st of December in full, more than a month before my intended departure date. I made all bookings via Booking. Com as I have used them for years and found them to be reliable. On the morning of January 3rd as I am practically getting ready to drive to Clarens, I receive a message from the owner requesting I cancel the booking as it still shows booked on her side. I was shocked and told her yes it still shows booked because it is still booked to which she replied she already had someone staying there since the 1st of January. Then she went on to blame for the mishap saying the booking was not showing on her side. She mad no effort whatsoever to arrange alternative accommodation and was not really apologetic. Instead she blamed it on booking. Com. I called and they advised me that the owner probably made a double booking and did not inform them as should be the process. At least offered to help me find an alternative sending a few suggestions unlike Lauren who didnt seem to care. My money was still held for further 7 days before they could refund and so I had to part with more money for the alternative booking. I was really disgusted by Lauren (owner of by the way guesthouse), never in my life have I been subjected to such unprofessional service. It really left a bitter taste in my mouth.
