Loved my time here! The most beautiful setting and scenery. Situated right on the Sognefjord, the view from our room and private balcony was spectacular. Room included the breakfast and dinner buffet, which was abundant and so many choices. The front desk reception staff was helpful, courteous and eager to please. Emelie was outstanding.

Simply the most romantic and beautiful we have ever stayed at. Our room was lovely with a balcony with views of mountains and fjord. Food was gorgeous with lots of choice from the buffet at dinner and breakfast. Wine list is great and we really enjoyed the wines we had. Good choice of wines. We enjoyed every wine we had. Lunch was special too. Staff warm, friendly and professional. W. Can’t wait to stay again.

This hotel is spectacular! Absolutely beautiful. Right on the water with stunning views. The hotel itself is really lovely and historic. The pictures online made it look a bit stuffy but it wasn’t at all. I had a room in the modern building that overlooked the water and it was breathtaking. Nice big balcony and good sized room. The bathroom floor was heated and the bathtub was nice and deep. I had dinner and breakfast here and both were delicious and had a lot of options. I wish I’d been able to stay for longer.

The hotel is great. The staff are amazing. Everyone is so nice and friendly. The food is top-notch. I highly recommend staying here.

A chic place can be bought in the fjord and free to ride the boat, free coffee/tea, free coffee/tea.

I enjoyed our stay here. It is a beautiful but very busy hotel with a nice view of the harbor and the mountains. There are a whole lot of places to go and the food was good. Nice breakfast and Wi-Fi. The train and boat rides were worth the trip to get here.

Travelled in by express boat from the Flam railway. Beautiful scenery. The hotel is right on the quay and has fantastic views in all directions. Our room was spacious, clean and pleasant. We had dinner included for both nights of our stay. This was an extensive smorgasbord with some hot dishes. There was an excellent choice of good food. Breakfast was a similarly extensive buffet, including salmon (I didn't know it was possible to cook salmon in that many different ways), cheeses (the brown cheese was very good and like a cross between cheese and fudge! ) meats, fruit etc. All very good. If you stay more than one night take the boat to Fjaerland and visit the glacier and its museum! Favourite thing about the hotel was the fact that they have two rowing boats you can borrow. Hope you're lucky enough to have the sunshine we did! And finally, the express boat journey to Bergen was more than five hours long, but passed through indescribably beautiful scenery.

Offers a bar, bistro, and a full restaurant. The restaurant has a four course dinner, and a buffet option. The buffet sports several kinds of fish in every conceivable format — a must-visit for seafood lovers. Desserts include creme brule, chocolate mousse, passion fruit flan, and a variety of tea cakes. The wine list is long and full of great options. Service was top notch — even for walk-ins rather than guests. Do try to secure a reservation though, as the hotel itself is a steady source of dining guests.

Great holiday in a great hotel. Buffet style breakfast and evening meal made gluten-free choices easy.

Very good hotel with spectacular views. Need to carry up the luggage yourselves. No cofee / tea maker in the room. No electric kettle and toiletries. The front desk guys were all trainees but tried their best to help. The modern rooms are OK but the toilets are way too small. And in summer it really gets hot in there without an AC!

Hotel nestled in a wonderful place, the rooms on the 7th floor renovated, there are Q ask for this area we saw the other rooms and some was a bit old and with small rods. Dinner and Breakfast of 10. I would recommend knowing on Q side of the hotel you sleep if in the historic or not.

Possibly, the best Hotel at Sognefjord (e. G. The best within 100 km around). Quality of heritage estate, comfortable accommodations accessibility to boat pier and bus station — all in the center of Balestrand makes it a very attractive stop for those who wish to make a stopover from Bergen to Flåm. If you're lucky with the weather, Balestrand offers you nice views to the fjord, opportunity to rent a kayak or just to swim in the fjord. Be aware, summer water has temperature between +10 C and +15 C. It is recommended to book well in advance for the peak season that lasts from mid May to late August. My favorite month is mid August — more chances to catch the sun.

Great atmosphere in peaceful surroundings. Staff is top notch, bountiful buffet, several hot tubs and pools, decor is quite pleasing. Highly recommend.

Lovely hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. We paid for an upgrade to have views of the fjord, well worth it. Great food even catering for my vegetarian and gluten free diet.

Friendly hotel in Balestrand. Stayed for one night during the weekend. If you stay here, try to have a room in the old part of the hotel. We also had a four course dinner in the restaurant, and the food was excellent. The service have room for improvements.

Disappointing and very formal welcome. No information available from the reception staff regarding the possibilities of visits in the region… Very old room.

Stunning location and excellent service. Great place to spend a few days between Oslo and Began. Remember to bring things like shampoo with you. Only soap is provided in the rooms. Buffet for breakfast and dinner are excellent and the view from the dining room is spectacular. The hotel mixes old world charm with modern amenities.

The hotel was lovely, food in the buffett of a high standard. Room very nice but no tea/coffee facility in the room which isnt so good in the morning or before bed so take a travel kettle and tea bags. Be careful when ordering drinks at dinner many in our group were billed for drinks they never had, staff add names and room numbers as they like! Even when you pay as you go so keep an eye on what you are ordering. Remember Norway is extremely expensive you can expect to pay £9 for a small glass of house wine and the hotel charges between £2-£4 for a cuppa. The country is clean and fresh and very clean the natural beauty is incredible.

Breakfast buffet was very good. Dinner buffet was excellent! Views are amazing. Cute town. If you want lots of options of things to do, this may not be the place. But if you want to relax, there is no place better.

The dependence may be ugly but there is all the comfort we need. The rest of the building is very beautiful. The breakfast is perfect.

If you have a room in the new building, this hotel is nothing but a really expensive Scandic. It offers only the bare essentials and not in parity with the pricetag. The hotel has some quirks — none good.
There is no in-room information binder — you need to ask front desk for everything. Not even a simple thing as the network password is presented, without a trip to the front desk.
For breakfast bufé there is no coffee. Or rather it is only served upon request. Since everything else is self-service you either end up with food and no coffee or you need to order coffee first and wait for it before getting food. N. B. Milk is not table-served, so if you take your coffee white you need to get that separately from the self service section. If you want a second cup, you better order this at the same time as you order the first. Only coffee or tea is offered, if you want say hot water you need to make this "special request" to the kitchen.
You also need to tie down your utensils. When they clear plates, they also collect your utensils and there is no way of getting new ones. This is probably done to get people quickly out of the restaurant and to save some pennies from people not getting seconds. Again, not in tune with the pricetag of this hotel. If you are staying here, remember that you are paying for the location and not for any special hotel service. Think "Scandic with a view" when you decide if this hotel is worth your reservation.

Arrived at this hotel with my sister yesterday and we think this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Both breakfast and evening meal are buffet style but the choice is so extensive. Top marks for presentation and flavour. Fantastic views and peaceful situated in the fjord area of Balestrand. Highly recommended.

The hotel has very nice common parts. Located directly on the water. Beautiful sunset. Sore Note: the rooms. Old, sad and smelly. Very nice dining room but buffet nothing exceptional.

Really a nice place to stay, with an historic view of either the Victorian era or the early 1960's, depending on which building you're in. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant was excellent — don't miss the buffet! Wonderful staff.

First-class hotel with great (historic) charm in a beautiful location. The buffet is among the best that I have ever enjoyed in the evening. The service is friendly accomodating and in total the stay is worth its price.

One of the most special hotels in my country! Situated beautifully on the northern shore of the Sognefjord, the Kviknes hotel offers a spectacular view to the dramatic fjord landscape — one of the most beautiful spots in my country! This is a spectacular, old and historic hotel – see my attached photos and you will understand! The view from my room in the historic building was absolutely stunning and it was a truly magical experience to sit and relax on the balcony. I have been visited hundreds of hotels in my country – this is one of the most special! Next time I will bring my wife for a weekend on this romantic old hotel! Highly recommended! The restaurant and to the water facilities are great. The Board building, where the rooms are, well, the charm of the 1960s. The food at the hotel is super, service also. The rooms — well. Would I no 2 star for forgiven.

A very nice hotel but the reason to go is the view and the hiking. The staff was so nice and we really enjoyed our stay. The food was also very good. If you go to Norway, this is a worthwhile destination.
