Wonderful welcome from the American lady. Went downhill quickly from there. At $23 for dorm room, you definitely get what you pay for. Never again…

All the staff are so lovely and friendly! Really nice, welcoming atmosphere and the way its is painted and decorated is really cool! Good kitchen facilities, the toilets and showers are really clean too!

The atmosphere here has been great, lovely hosts, have met people from all over the world, so close to everywhere, real family atmosphere.

It’s a really good backpacker hostel, all the staff is friendly and Sheira is a lovely woman, she wants that you feel at home. 100% recommended.

After finding there was no available ferries and needing a bed for the night I booked a room here. The staff were lovely, the fire warm and the well appointed lounge areas had a friendly feline or two to keep me company whilst reading a book. The central location is also very helpful, I found I was a mere minute walk away from good views and better coffee.

Fun fabulous decor. Handy to ferry and situated over looking the foreshore in CBD. Rooms clean and comfortable, host very warm and welcoming. We checked in at midnight after a midnight sailing from Wellington.

This hostel feels like home from the moment you step through the door! The people are so wonderful you won't want to leave! It's an art lover's dream with so many beautiful paintings all over, there's something new to catch your eye every time you walk around. The hostel cats are friendly and wonderful for if your missing your pets from home! The kitchen is stocked with anything you need to do your own cooking and you get breakfast in the morning and homemade dessert at night! The staff can give you advice about literally anything to do in the area and are always willing to help you with whatever you need! There are board games, books and even a piano for your leisure. Wifi and a desktop computer to use if needed. I honestly can't say enough good things about Atlantis ❤️❤️ If you are in Picton this is the place to stay!

A quirky hostel sea themed hostel. But it's cheap and clean with very friendly managers.

4.5/5 Just got here and it is already amazing, the location is great and close to everything, at first I was worried about going im because from the outside it looked a bit older but upon entering it looked clean and has a lot of charm. Also the price for the large dorm is cheap and the host was very nice and friendly.

What a lovely quirky place! The owner is such a wonderful person. The beds were pretty comfy. Though there seemed to be a lot of sick people in the room which kept me awake with all the weird coughs haha. But that has nothing to do with the actual room. It's clean and cozy and very close to the ferry. I'd stay again for sure!

The owners are the most! They helped us a lot with info, they are fun and kind. The place is very flashy and cozy, books, fireplace, pool, games, breakfast and more! Beautiful really.

Oh my goodness! This is the best backpackers in the world. The owner is a gem and has brought a beautiful family feel for all, from all over the world. The murals painted by fellow travellers make this a site a must see even if you are not staying. This genuine lady went out of her way to accommodate me and my dog. Everyone staying was committed to the community feel of Atlantis. Not to mention the wonderful town of Picton! 20 out of 10.

Been in New Zealand for five months and this is definitely my favorite hostel here! Lovely place with free breakfast and Wi-Fi for very low prices.

The owner is just lovely! Staff is really nice, mainly backpackers that are working here. And the free dessert in the afternoon is a nice bonus. Also quite easy to meet other travellers.

This establishment is a dictatorship run by a cat called Chairman Meow. The ginger feline is one of two species who are happy in this establishment, the other being fleas. Or bed bugs. Or some sort of crawly thing that lives in the mattresses Chairman meow ordered from the local rubbish tip because he likes what he describes as a homey feel and the smell of armpit. Technically, he doesn't have arms though so you can see that the megalomaniac delusion is already taking hold. Such is his desire to keep everyone from sharing information about his demise he's also limited the Wi-Fi which only works infrequently via voucher. Nonetheless the uprising will come. Probably in the shape of a health inspection and a rehoming for this cruel cruel aristocat.

Staff are absolutely amazing. Free breakfast and dessert and access to a piano, clean dry showers. Loved every minute I spent here, tho I have been spending a lot of time enjoying pictons various attractions.

I booked a room online for an over nite stay and I didnt even get to the front door and I was welcomed by a lil lady who made it a beautiful friendly welcome. Not just to me but to another whole lotta people / backpackers who just arrived beautiful experience. Ive stayed at a few backbackers in oz and a couple here in nz and this will be one freindly experience.

Staff couldn't be more friendly. Prices were great, and it is very centrally located. Bonus: if you're travelling and miss your pet they have a bunch of rescue cats that they take care of. Added bonuses: coffee, dessert and breakfast included, and the team are happy for you to stick around after check-out if your bus/boat/train is leaving later.

We ve booked a double bed room and we get two single bed rooms. However they would have the possibility to make corrigation — if they received our booking wrongly — they ve just told we have full house today (it was not actually, next to us there were two, free double bedrooms as well. The prize contained the breakfast as well, and we asked them that they could prepare for us two-three buns and a bit butter or stg fast because we have to take the ferry at seven and we cant wait till the kitchen opens at 8. And their answer was no, we open at 8… But there are very beautiful paintings everywhere inside the building, and we ve got free dessert.

Yes, don't let the outer facade put you off! … Travel from hostel to hostel for 10 months and have never seen such a beautiful colorful hostel.
I enjoyed my time at Atlantis, the owner is wonderfully loving and funny and you feel immediately at home. You can spend hours looking at the paintings, maps, photos and sayings on the wall. I had a great time at Atlantis.
For me the best hostel in New Zealand because it simply has a unique charm. ✌

The lady at the reception is seriously and super nice! Most importantly, the surrounding and rooms are very comfortable. It makes you feel like home. Btw, if you love arts and music, trust me. Do drop by this place. You will love it.

The staff here is really really nice and our apartment is really big and clean! Each room is really artistic and really particular. It's just kinda loud sometimes.

I'm a bit confused on what to say of this place. The lady at the desk was super friendly but was a bit strange. The people that stay here or work (don't really know) seem homeless. The place it self is like being in a story of a myth. Good place for one night.

My girlfriend Sofia wrote a review for this place. And now the girls about whom she wrote the review about have seen it. May be they don't know that there is a app called WHO SEARCHED ME and WHO SEARCHED MY PROFILE. It clearly shows their profile name searching for my girlfriends Facebook. It's a good thing that I had this feature set up on both of our phones and computer. Now we are getting stalked by these girls. Time to change all contact details as who knows what they might try to do again. Another person was right in his review for not using his right name and so forth fearing to get hassled by them.

I Sofia from Germany. I stayed at Atlantis. I very shame for stay Atlantis. Have 2 girl from me country Svea and Isabel work in place and talk very bad for smoke drug. Want me smoking with they. Iam say no Svea ask me want buy from she. Iam said no I not want. Germany girl not do like this. I not happy for the 2 girl do drug to work. I like place but no go again. Them speak Germany I hear them talk very bad thing for people. I very shame for people Germany.

I like this place so much I bought it. Atlantis Backpackers is your utopia away from home. Artists have contributed to the scenic wonder by recreating murals on the walls. Sheira, my wife and your host and the team at reception are here to help you find your way around Picton and the top of the south. We are travelers too, so look forward to hearing about your adventures and hope to offer you some from here, like Paragliding from Colin's Hill or kayaking on the Marlborough Sounds to walking or biking the famous Queen Charlotte track. Plenty to see and do in Sunny Picton.

What a place!
Beside the fact that the place is cozy and fantastic, with magical atmosphere and great staff you get to meet soo many amazing people from arround the world! What a gift to beeing a part of that place for 2 days which I will never forget. Thank you guys! From a practical standpoint — clean facilities, free coffee and tea (yes! Fellow travellers will love that! ), movies to rent, very comfortable beds, some cats to pet and free breakfasts — what else do you need? :)

Hey we loved it but I didn't love the showers I mean who wants a half cold half warm shower that is just so upsetting but thanks for the free Wi-Fi and knocking ten bucks off for us cause other wise we were just going to sleep in the truck and you should do that for every one.

Atlantis is such a nice place to stay. The owners are very friendly. We got free breakfast every morning and free cake every evening. The living area is nice and you feel home.

It is one of the most unique hostels in NZ. The owner is a lively person who pays attention to details and decorated everything so beautifully. Upon arrival I was welcomed warmly and shown around. Free breakfast, free dessert, free tea, what more can I ask for, especially for the cheapest option in town. I have decided to stay and wwoof for a while because of the pleasant atmosphere.

Awesome! We arrived here thinking we would only stay for the night and quickly we changed our mind when we where welcomed by the great staff! We immediately felt part of the family! It's actually the cheapest option in town, just beside the ferry. When you get there, just ask about the sailing trips, the paragliding or the Queen Charlotte track. They have discounts.

What a great place. I will highly recommend it to anyone I meet staying in Picton. The surroundings are homey and full of interesting and whimsical things to look at. There are plenty of books, movies and board games around to entertain someone on an evening in. The dorms are neat and linens were kept crisp and clean throughout my three day stay. The owners and front staff were always around to help with anything I needed to make my stay at Atlantis comfortable. I was especially pleased to find that on top of the complimentary breakfast, coffee and tea, there was a lovely little dessert served in the evenings. Awesome place to stay right by the sea.

Out of my month trip around NZ this was probably my least favourite backpackers we stayed at. We booked in for a 6 person dorm as there were 5 of us but were put into an over 50 dorm. Therefore there was constant movement and noise. I did not find it particularly clean, especially the bathrooms which I guess is maybe to be expected.

Atlantis has been the best backpackers I have stayed at. I was having a horrible day and the friendly staff, homelike environment and quirky decorations turned it around. It does not have the best privacy but its painted walls, piano, unicycle, cats and movie room more than make up for it. I can't wait to come back.
