A lovely cottage. Great for a family. Private and warm. Be great in the summer too. Everything you need and more from a full range of wine to lovely breakfast provisions. The kitchen is stocked with every gadget you could ever need so if you there for any length of time you can cook or bake up a storm! Backing on to the Tongariro River so walks or fishing. The hosts Jason and Rebecca couldn’t be anymore welcoming and accomodate all your needs. We had a gluten free and it wasn’t a problem. Dinner at the lodge started with drinks in front of a roaring fire. Very nice!
We arrived at Turangi with a plan to do Tongariro Alpine crossing and were lucky enough to stay at the River birches. I must say that the Lodge is amazing, but the most important and valuable thing about this place is homy atmosphere and tremendously giving hosts. They do really care not only about your comfort at the lodge, but your experience of visiting NZ in general. They eagerly share with you a lot of insights about country, things to do and see around. Jason and Rebeca helped us a lot to prepare for Tongariro crossing and on the way back we had a strong feeling that we're coming home.

Great memories of a most enjoyable stay made even more special by the hosts, Rebecca and Jason. Can’t wait to get back when next possible. A destination in itself with so much else nearby to keep you busy, or not, as you wish. An experience worth repeating nonetheless.
