A magical place. Would absolutely recommend. Abundant in warmth.

Same as a previous reviewer. They banned travel because of COVID-19 and I was of course unable to travel. Even though my reservation was “non refundable”, under the circumstances it was obvious it was thru no fault of my own. Every other reservation I had during this, nonrefundable or not has given a full refund except this place. They are fully taking advantage of this situation and screwing people over In a time of crisis. They do not realize that taking advantage of people now for a few hundred dollars will cost them much more with the poor reputation, word of mouth and lost repeat customers. I have not heard of any airlines or hotels not giving refunds during this situation. So much for trying to give business to a smaller business for the better customer service. I would strongly ask that you do not stay at a place who would do this.

I gave this hotel 2 stars only because of its central location. Other than that this has been the WORST check-in experience I've ever had. It ruined our Amsterdam vacation completely! I reserved a double room and arrived there with my wife and kids. The receptionist told me that the room can fit only 2 persons. I asked if there is a bigger room or another available room. She said this is the only available room. I asked her politely to stay in the reception for a few minutes to search online for another hotel for the rest of us. She agreed. Then, a few minutes later, she came back telling me that she called the police and that we should leave right now! I asked her politely "Did we do anything wrong? " She answered "No, I ask you to leave and I called the police for you! ". She refused to refund our payment, telling us that this reservation is non-refundable — — although it's the hotel that forced cancellation and not us! I believe the receptionist behaved in a racist manner (as my wife is wearing hijab) and refused to check us in despite me trying my best to resolve the issue and in a very calm and polite way. So, beware if you're checking in to that hotel, specially if you don't "look like them", you might end up in the police department rather than in your hotel room! When booking a single room at this family owned hotel, I wasn't expecting much. I was really surprise about the great service, great attention to detail, nice breakfast, super clean and fresh room. Overall, am affordable little boutique-y hotel in a great location of Amsterdam.

A true family run hotel. They make a real effort. Nothing is too much trouble. I also took advantage of a couple of the restaurant suggestions they provide, and they were both EXCELLENT restaurants. Do follow their advice. It is worth it. The hotel was spotless and we'll appointed. It is worth noting that the hotel is actually split up. The main hotel has the breakfast room and reception. There are also two houses slightly further down the street that have been converted, and these are a couple of seconds walk down the street away. I stayed in room 201, which had a loud lift mechanism next door to it. The hotel are aware of this and provide earplugs, but the noise didn't bother me at all. Good value, good location, good room, good breakfast, good service. 10/10.

Hotel itself is very good. The location is right in front of the Heineken brewery. Not bad all in all.

Magnificent hotel. Better than expected. Super clean, pretty new furniture in our room and at a very good location. Close to many lines of trams, but at the same time on a quiet street. They even offer some free snacks to those who are staying at the hotel like fruit or chocolates.

Very nice little hotel. Clean rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Priced right for the neighborhood. Only downside was the lack of a little fridge. With so many wonderful meats and cheeses and beers to enjoy in Amsterdam it would have been nice to have somewhere to keep them chilled. Would still recommend hotel to anyone.

Just home last week from an amazing long weekend in Amsterdam, couldn’t have stayed in a better hotel! Location is excellent, three tram stops into the centre. Furthermore, the hotel is near by all the museums. The room was big and very clean. The breakfast was perfect overall me and my boyfriend loved the hotel and hope to be back in the near future with friends. Would definitely recommend without a doubt!

One night in Amsterdam wasn't enough — when I return, the ONLY place I'm staying is The Hotel Asterisk, what a fantastic place. The staff is incredibly helpful & friendly, the rooms are great and the location is perfect. I highly recommend it!

Cute hotel and super friendly staff. Quick tip, not the place for you if you're visiting when hot and you prefer central air, which our room didn't have… nor an oscillating fan.

The location of the hotel allows easy transport in any direction either on foot or by tram / metro. The museums and the markets are just a walk away. Grabbing something to eat is even easier. The staff is extremely friendly and always available. Things to know in Amsterdam: most hotels do not have air conditioning (and it's usually not necessary), transportation is excellent and renting a car is really unnecessary even if you plan on going to the countryside. Will return to this hotel in the future.

Ok, the location is great, 10 min walk or a short tram ride and you're right in the middle of it all. But everything else… It's a nice break from all those fancy hotels you imagine yourself staying at. I stayed in several hotels in the middle of the South-American jungle, and in European Radissons/Swissotels. Unlike in those 3-star hotels in Peru, room is clean, has a window with an actual glass that actually blocks noise from the street, although mine didn't open/close correctly and it was a struggle every single time. It had nice curtains that completely blocked daylight, which is super useful if you want to sleep past noon. There was an electric teapot in the room, with one tea bag and some instant coffee/cream. Mine required some adjustment before it started to work, but it did work. Now, I must mention that I got the cheapest room available (2 nights on a July weekend cost me 140€, tax incl. ). And while it did say "shared bathroom", I got lucky and had a private one down the hall. Unlike in those fancy hotels, room was *really* small. I probably would not be able to lie across it. Hotel is a rebuilt old house, so corridors and staircases are completely random in there, kinda of like in Esher's house. Walls are super thin, so you can hear what people are talking down the hall behind doors, and both nights there was a distinct squeeking noise in a rhytmic pattern.

Because it is unique, simple and elegant.

Small and cosy hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms are clean, there is a small elevator and the usual steep Amsterdam meetings. The breakfast is good, in any case a recommended hotel with a great location.

Excellent staff, interesting old building, good rooms, very close to museums. Breakfast isn't free but it is a buffet and the eggs, omelets and pancakes are all made to order.

The staff were really friendly and the rooms were cleaned very well when we left for our daily excursions but the rooms were quite basic.

It has a very good location. About A 20 minute walk from the centre. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The area is very quiet and the deal has been unbeatable. Very nice. We have been delighted to.

Great staff, great room. Hallway bathroom is unusual but just fine.

The room was small and the toilet separate so you had to go through the main corridor to use it. But, for the price and location, an excellent little hotel. You can leave your bags their all day after check out, an absolute life saver!

The staff is great. The hotel has many details with the guests, fruit in the front desk, hot drinks, sweets, etc. Our room was very clean, and the bathroom was OK. Maybe a small mini bar can be useful.

I have stayed here twice and loved it both times. Yes the rooms are very small, but welcome to Amsterdam! It is family owned, and they are extremely nice and helpful, and went way out of their way to make sure we had the best stay possible. I will continue to stay here because of its location, price, included breakfast, and so on. If you need more space than just a place to sleep at night, expect to pay much more somewhere else.
