It must have been glorious when first opened about 130 years ago. Think of ‘Best Marigold Hotel’ It has been wonderful to explore the nooks & crannies, hidden alcoves and different floors with all sorts or beautiful antiques and decorations. It is a wonderful taste of a foreign culture from a bygone era. It’s not Europe, it’s the edge of the Old Medina, Tangier, Morocco, Africa — and I think it is wonderful! The staff are awesome, the rooms and dining areas are very clean, there is no rubbish anywhere. The Wi-Fi has worked perfectly though you do need to sign in to the correct one for each area. The views are beautiful from the 3rd floor out over the bay, though some may prefer lower floors as there is not a lift/elevator. It is an easy walk to the ferry if you do not have huge bags. The beds are clean and comfortable and it is on the edge of the Old Medina, so very accessible. The price per night, including a very diverse, delicious buffet breakfast, it represents very good value for money in my opinion. I notice a very poor review from someone staying at the same time as us. They believe that the good reviews are fake. This seems very unfair to the Hotel for them to say this. Reviews are generally subjective, but I feel that much of what was written was not accurate. I did reply to her comment directly but it was removed, which I find very strange.

Old junk throughout the hotel. Very very véry poorly maintained. Stinks very damp. Faded glory! Simple & tasteless breakfast, the staff walked in and out the breakfast room and ate with guests… were chatting with colleagues in the breakfast room while eating. So not done! The room door was very difficult to open and close. The Wi-Fi usually didn't work. Many tableware was broken. Benches in public areas were dirty and covered with many many stains. Half the hotel served as a warehouse: there is rubbish everywhere in the corridors! And so on. I believe the good reviews here are fake. The hotel is not even worth 1/2 a star unfortunately.

Great location with view over the port and near the Kasbah. Friendly helpful staff.

Although old, it has a special charm. The rooms, Spartans. The terrace, with charm. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Hotel Continental was one of the first luxury hotels in Tangier when it opened in 1870. Ships could dock nearby and smaller boats would bring guests to some steep stairs and then they would walk up to the hotel's entrance. Back in the 1980s, I had a friend whose mother lived in a house on Dar Baroud, directly overlooking this hotel, and there is a wonderful view of both the port and the ocean. I have a friend from California who used to rent a room by the month, for three months, so he could write, and his room always had a direct ocean and port view. But the manager who arranged a long-term rate retired, and I don't think the hotel has special long-term rates anymore, which is a shame. The entire hotel used to be very cheap 30 years ago, but since there are now many daily fast ferries from Tarifa direct to Tangier, there are suddenly more tourists who want to stay overnight rather than just spending a few hours walking around the Medina and the city. The rooms in the back don't have much of a view and are not the best. But they and the rest of the hotel are very quiet and relaxing. I think the hotel was furnished better years ago, but the owner has now spruced up the rooms and some have antiques and most have baths with hot water only at specific times. Apparently many of the rooms now have heating and air-conditioned so it is possible to stay here in the winter and be comfortable.

We went there for tea as it was quite close to our Riadh. It is worth knowing and seeing its interior rooms and having a tea on one of its terraces. It is a mythical hotel in the area and the service is very good. I wish I could enjoy your views in the near future when you have finished the marina!

Only had coffee there. Fantastic view. Beautiful cafe.

I did reservation online based on pictures & description I sawon the website, checked in and out in 10 mn, yes it’s historical but not maintained, dust, cement patches all over the floor, old abused duvet, bed frame tightened with zip-ties…
Not recommended if you’re looking for comfort, don’t forget no access by, park your car at public parking and climb the hill, good luck.

Clean historic place with great welcoming stuff. Here you can feel historic Medina. Excellent location-close to port and Medina. You can get everywhere on foot.

This hotel is nice to visit as a tourist attraction (as one of the very few Tangier has), but there is absolutely no point in staying there as a hotel guest. The room and hallway smell disgusting (think of a mix between cigarette smoke, mould and sewage). Upon on our arrival there were around 30 grey moths in our room, maybe this is supposed to be part of the historic charm. Wifi and hot water are only supplied sporadically, the latter in form of a yellowish liquid. After killing around half of the grey moths and heavy air-conditioning and deodorising of the room, we managed to have a somewhat restful night with the remaining moths which were banging against the window all night. Breakfast was OK, although half of the containers were empty, they 'had run out of' several foods. Staff is alright, but will demand money for services that should be included in the hotel price and will not be helpful in giving advice about discovering the city.

Rarely have I been so disappointed with an establishment.
It's the first time I've put on a 1 star.
We have been poorly received in general.
Plus the rooms were dirty and with mold.
Finally I witnessed a scene of discrimination with two French couples before me during the recording.
The first composed of 2 Westerners.
The second consists of a mixed Western couple (with the woman of Eastern origin). They were forced to sleep separately while the first couple did not.
After with his two couples, it turns out that the presentation quality of their room was not the same either.
This is unacceptable!
I never want to see this type of scene happen again.

A waiter who was at breakfast, bald and something stout, looked at me bad all the time while I had breakfast, when I woke up to catch a cup I saw that they were all dirty, with leftovers of tea. I asked politely in Spanish and English that if those dirty mugs were to be served and answered aggressively saying, "That's the tea and that's the water, " with a very unpleasant tone. Then came another waiter who did know Spanish and gave me the cup more "clean" of all and got to argue with the aggressive waiter in front of me. Then the unpleasant waiter continued to look at me badly while he had breakfast. Then I was told by another guest of the hotel that his companions also looked at them badly. It's about machismo, who doesn't like to see independent girls. I must say I was alone, too.
The views of my room were nice, to the harbour, and at the reception they were friendly, although you had to ask them expressly to get informed about something in relation to the city and surroundings and they did not give you map.

Above by the management of the parking: accessibility catastrophic convey striped place limited 10 quality of breakfast limited in choice and especially in quantity even the Mint is based on commercial infusion concealed in shameful theieres.
That said for globtrotters pedestrians who do not stay there is not bad.

Hotels Museum very well located, certainly not the comfort of a 4 star hotel but have made a trip through time.

Classic Hotel, old, with a lot of history and a lot of flavor. A view of the port of Tangier extraordinary and a very attractive Arabic artistic decoration.

Historic site. Nice team. Hotel accessible from the parking lot in front of the harbor.

The staff was disrespectful and didn't want to take care of sick people and refused to give some sort of roomservice. They let my friend wait for an hour for soup while I was sick in my room. The rooms were dirty. There was poop in my shower. The building was very noisy. I could hear everything. I'm writing this review on their Wi-Fi, so this is my revenge.

Very good value for money. Cosy rooms. Very friendly staff. All over the heart of the Medina.

Great views — nice place for a drink on the terrace. Stunning traditional Moroccan interior. Definitely worth a visit or a stay.

Access by difficult car (very narrow streets), taxis do not want to go up to the parking of the hotel.

The worst hotel I've ever been to. Sewer smell, high pillows, uncomfortable mattress, no elevator and extra charge for capsule coffee at breakfast…

Stayed here at the start and the end of our bike tour of Morocco… authentic and traditional. Fantastic staff. Very good food. Just wish they had a lift. 3rd floor was a struggle with our bike boxes. 6 flights of stairs. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Views were stunning… and a very good price. Would stay again when over next. Small note: difficult access to carpark. Had to ride through very narrow cobbled lanes. Was gestured by many touts to pull over at the bottom. Then wanted paying when they took us to the hotel. 1st time was acceptable. But the second time we knew where to go. And one seemed cross when we said no thankyou.

Such a special place and yet full of architectural barriers. A hell for people with reduced mobility. Very better in that regard. You don't have to lose your charm with the installation of an elevator.

Good location you don't need transportation for interesting tourist places. Beautiful terrace magnificent view. Old Hotel needs renovation. There is no hair dryer and sometimes hot water comes out. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Very cool. It is an old hotel, well maintained, but it shows the passage of time. It is also very picturesque, in great position, overlooking the harbour and a fantastic terrace where to take the buffet breakfast. Excellent cleaning, care and service.

Very good address. Great location Friendly and French speaking staff. Good breakfast on the terrace.

Historical locale. Great view. Ideal location to visit Tangier. Rooms with dated services.

Attention very well. The room was missing the remote control of the TV and they did not get it. The breakfast is complete but if you want to make an espresso you will be charged separately, there is free common coffee.

I enjoyed my experience in this hotel which I had a pleasant weekend, having a good concierge service that did well, since I spent my reservation on the booking site and I was able to have a clean room with very clean sheets AUS and a Wi-Fi service available.

This historic place is very nicely decorated and has a terrace with amazing views. The room was stylish and cozy.

Hotel & Historical Museum, located on a hill overlooking the harbor and the new Marina, beautiful view to the east. Clean rooms and linens, maintained daily.
There is a big difference between the rooms on the front and the ones on the inside.
Only downside, I had a room without openings on the outside, forced to leave the windows open, we did not appreciate the lack of acoustic insulation and outdoor air.

One of the most beautiful hotels I have ever had the blessing to be in. Additionally, it has a mind-blowing architecture with a wide range of color. The staff are always welcoming and do an outstanding job. Would recommend this historical beauty to everyone!

Only hotel in the world without fridge in the room but you can use Airconditioning device to cool beer. Continental only the name because no alcohol to buy neither during The dinner. Very Hard acces with the car.

Has its small disadvantages but definitely the best Tanger can offer. Terrific interiors, visit the Souvenir Shop downstairs to See which worldwide famous guests were hosted here. You have the feeling being in 1920s. Staff at reception is the best u feel really that it is their please to help u out! Breakfast offered is quite poor, eggs always cold. Would also be Nice if there was a rule of quite hours after 22:00 doors slamming do not bring most people in sleep mode. But next time in Tanger we will definitely stay in Continental!

Historical building, lots of Cham very unique. We didn't get the ocean view room but still worth staying there. The Restaurant and the cafeteria is really good, don't missed eating there, price is reasonable, good quality food. Highly recommended.

Very poor service. Fiddly wording when booking a room, wanted a double room for two people with a bathtub (necessary to relieve joint pain) got A twin room for 1 person, with no bathtub. Cost for 1 extra person was double the original price. Putting it well beyond our price range. Also, reception were not so pleased at being asked for a receipt. We got no help with heavy bags, they could see me hobbling with a sprained ankle and were asked about medical services. Staff did not make life easy when asked for cutlery. Stunning looking interior but abysmal service.

After 2 weeks of good, fresh & tastefull food in Marokko, we expected a lot more of this restaurant. We had the harira (witch was not by far in the taste of the regular harira) and the chicken tajine (who was cooked in water? So didnt had any taste of lemons, olives etc). We were very dissapointed because the location and atmosphere are nice. Also on the check they charged 10% extra… we don't have any clue for what? So, we dont recommend this restaurant.

Hotel of ancient splendor, from the terrace you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea. Excellent mint tea!

The views 'from' the hotel and looking 'towards' the hotel are stunning. However, the two rooms I stayed in, and all the rooms I saw, were newly renovated as if you went to Home Depot and bought the absolute cheapest flooring, plumbing, lighting, everything… The rooms look bad. Also the included breakfast is barely edible. It's as if they've taken an amazing jem and are going out of their way to ruin it. It would have been a million times better if they had never renovated it at all. I'd stay there again because I love the cool old parts and the vibe of the place. It's like the old Chelsea Hotel in NY. One other thing. The second you leave the hotel gate, you're surrounded by very sketchy people who want to rob you — like for real. Actually a lot of Tangier feels like that. Have fun!

Very good service but breakfast is very poor Hot water is available from 6PM to 12AM and from 6AM to 12PM Location is very good because its on Cornish so u can take a taxi easily and its at back of old Marina if you would like to walk Terrace is more than beautiful and drinks (hot\cold) are available till 10:30 PM.

Hotel Continental has its heyday very bad! Broken restored, without the old charm and also the staff has changed! I was there the first time 20 years ago… is still a Patsy or shed. Who want to live in the Kasbah is looking for one of the small part beautiful accommodation is better.

A fantastic hotel as decadent. Old glory of Tangier, preserves the walls the evidence of far, either in the form of wallpaper of photographs. Today is expensive and dirty, but the panoramic terrace overlooking the sea will make you forget the night passed in white because of the mattresses worn.

Here stayed Winston Churchill. It is an older hotel, the décor has not changed, it like that the time is stopped.

It is much better to the Rembrandt hotel, more clean, and in this the breakfasts are tremendous; with a lot of variety of food. Had soup for breakfast.

It is a hotel with a special charm. Rooms very spacious and with views to the bay of Tanger spectacular. The staff very correct and friendly. Its restaurant serves the best tajine of Tanger.

I recommend NOT to come here! The hotel was once a great traditional hotel, but it's way past it's years. — It's falling apart right and left. Hole in the wood floor next to the bed the size of my foot. — Bed bugs in our beds. — Cold water comes out warm. — Prices are a complete rip off. — Each Staff tells you somethind different, one sells you a 1L bottle water for 1Euro and the next day another staff says they only have 0.5L bottles for 2.50Euro. — Staff is not accomodating at all. The only time they help you if it's about any kind of booking for e. G. Tours, vehicles, restaurant etc. Because it all works on a commission base. — Breakfast was MAYBE 2 Stars, but only because I expected even worse based on the rest of the hotel. — It's right at the main street of the harbor, loud as hell until 2-3AM and then again at 5AM… and you can't really sleep with closed windows as it's like a damn oven how the place heats up during the day.

I had a very bad experience. I had a very BAD EXPERIENCE. Electricity was going every few minutes, as well as hot water. The rooms are quite small, tiny, not worth paying for them. They boast views but most of its rooms overlook tiny courtyards without light so they are very cold inside. And good luck if you change it. The staff is very rude and unfair. In just a couple of days I've had more altercations with them in all the years that I've been traveling. The hotel, to be in the middle of the medina, found me very unsafe. Its surroundings at certain times of the evening are not advisable. Very BAD experience. The electricity come back periodically, the rooms are quite small, the hot water come back time to time. The hotel boasts of having great vies but the most of the rooms don't even have exterior windows, and they are very cold. The staff is quite rude and unfair. The hotel is inside the medina, so in many occasions I felt very unsafe walking until the hotel.

This very well located and the part of breakfast is spectacular.
