I am sure the majority of people have a fine stay at Hotel Barrio Latino, however we did not. Hotel Barrio Latino was the most expensive place we booked on our trip to Mexico and also the only hotel that made us pay up front with the disclaimer 'no refunds' (probably should have been a red flag). We booked for a single night several months in advance. About a week before we were going to be staying there we decided we should have two nights in the area so we aren't as rushed and decided to book a transfer. We sent an email to request that an extra night was added to our original booking and to enquire about the pricing of the transfer. We received an email back advising of the transfer price (from Cancun airport return $110usd) and that to add an extra night we would need to make a new booking through the website. So I went to book through the website and I had trouble selecting the correct date we would like. After trying for some time I believed I had gotten it all locked in and paid for an extra night. As soon as I got the confirmation email I realised the website had elected that very night for us to be staying there instead of the night we wanted. At this time it was 10:41. I immediately sent an email requesting this be cancelled and credited to the correct night/cancelled and refunded so we could book the correct night. This was sent at 10:43. I did not get a reply that night or the next day. The following day I sent another email requesting the same and to book the airport transfer. I received an email back telling me I made a mistake and they did not give refunds and I would need to pay again for the night I wanted. I responded explaining the problem and how I took steps to rectify the issue as quickly as possible. I received another reply telling me that as I sent my email requesting the cancellation so late at night they could not have sold the room to anyone else and held it for us. The hotel offered to upgrade our current night to a more expensive suite. I responded advising the time gap between me booking and cancelling was 2 minutes so it was very unlikely someone else tried to buy the room at that time and got turned away. The hotel responded advising this was their final email and they would not be crediting the payment back. Ignoring the fact that it was their website that wouldn't let me select the correct date, I made a mistake and attempted to remedy it as soon as possible. This mistake came through trying to give the hotel more business through booking and extra night ($62usd) and a transfer. The hotel would not have lost any business by transferring our night to the correct day and would have gained more as we would have booked the transfers. We also received an email advising hotel policy is to take a deposit of $100 in case of damages. It also said if you did not advise the hotel that you would be checking in after 7 then they may give you room away. We did not need to do this anywhere else. In the end we did not stay at the hotel at all and lost $120usd. We also received emails after our 'stay' requesting we leave them a good review. Don't book here. There are many hassle free and cheaper options available.
