What an amazing adventure. If you are planning a trip to Cerocahui, I'd highly recommend staying at Hotel Paraiso del Oso. Hugo, met my wife and I at the train station on our arrival. The location is unbelievable. Giant ancient stone pillars surround the hotel. Hugo also acted as our personal guide for two days. The first day we visited the small village of Cerocahui and toured the mission built in the 1600's.
An amazing family owned property! The ambiance is incredible and very rustic. The photos give you a great view of the place. All rooms are at ground level. Rooms were spacious with a wood fired stove for very cold nights. Lots of extra blankets were in the room. Great showers! The morning breakfast was incredible delicious.
Note that the hotel operates on a generator, which means electricity ends each night after everyone is in bed. Internet is available only in the great room.
This past February we visited Copper Canyon for the third time. Each of our visits included a trip to this charming hotel. The first year we went a lovely woman who worked in the kitchen created a birthday cake for my husband, at the last minute, and I knew I would be back. Service is great! Family owned and you can tell. This year the owner ended up having to drive 5 of us all the way back to our original destination as there was a mix up with train tickets. Well he didn't HAVE to… but he did.
