Amazing place. Spent a week with family including kids aged, 11 and 12. Stayed in Forest House: 2 bedroom, 1 bath, plus a kitchen and lovely deck. (Wi-Fi is also free) The place is so relaxing with amazing views across the rice paddys with the mountains all around. The pool is just the right size that the kids spent hours playing in it. It is near the middle of the island so most of the beaches and other sites are no more than 20 minutes away. I would highly recommend a rental car so you can easily get around. They do not have a restaurant but there are so many good ones to choose from not far away if you have a car. They do a lovely breakfast for a little extra which is really nice way to start the day. They also provide bath and pool towels. The owners are so lovely and helpful. They have lots of great local advice on what to see and do as well as where to eat. They will also arrange any trips for you and most trips will pick you up. One of the most relaxing and enjoyable places we have ever stayed!

Best special stay in the island of Langkawi. Beautiful well maintained malays traditional house, with a fully fitted kitchenette and other modern facilities. Close to local village (including few restaurants). About 15 minutes driving from the beach of Pantai Chenang. Very good host. Highly reccomended.

Magnificent place. Romantic traditional Malay style wooden houses. Quiet. Lovely view on the rice paddies, Swimming pool and very friendly owners.

Wonderfully peaceful, interrupted only by birds and geckos.

Beautiful place. Lots of passion and effort put together for this place to retain it’s original look and feel. Villas are surrounded by pure mother nature! Service by the owners were never once left out at any point during my stay.

What a perfect little piece of paradise I found myself in a few months ago. After stumbling upon David and Gudrun's place on Workaway, I came as a volunteer while they had staff turnover, and despite working each day the afternoons and evenings were mine to go out and explore. For my first week there I just couldn't tear myself away from the hotel though! After admiring the views onto the gardens and paddy fields while I worked in the afternoons I moved down to the pool and claimed the hammock, making this my place to while away the hours in the sun. And yes, I was so relaxed I did have many naps in that hammock! If I wasn't snoozing then I would be in charge of feeding the tribe of dogs, cats and Kittens… many cuddles ensued and they are a great addition for the guests, especially the younger guests. Set back from the road the only sounds you will hear come from the wildlife which is plentiful all around the site. Two Hornbills were residents during my stay and were a pleasure to watch. Add in frogs, 'flying squirrels' as I call them, Butterflies and Birds any nature lover will be spoiled here. There are many places to sit and take it all in around the hotel, but do make sure to be by the pool at sunset. Despite the unusual amount of rain during my time there I did get to see a few lovely sunsets. Their shop and well-equipped kitchen meant I could cook any dish at any hour (because I was not staying in any of the houses this was my main kitchen).

After traveling around and staying in big hotels, Sunset Valley and the warm welcome by Gudrun and David, including their dogs and cats, felt like coming home. The garden is amazing, the house beautiful and well equipped. It's a magical place to get away from it all, yet close enough to everything to explore the Island by (rental) car. By far the most charming and enjoyable stay we had during our travels in Malaysia! Thx Gudrun and David!

If you heard of the Mahsuri legend, you might have unknowningly passed by Sunset Valley on your way to the tomb. It is located within vicinity of Ulu Melaka, towards Makam Mahsuri, just a narrow turn to the right. Sunset Valley is perfect for those seeking out-of-city retreat, catering specially for those who love… • Birds — SV hosts a variety of avians (loud ones, long tailed ones, colorful ones). One can easily spot a few different species in any given hour. • Serenity — Smacked at the edge of a large paddy field, bordered by one of Langkawi's tallest mountains, one can be certain to unwind to a clear view of Langkawi's finest paddy field sunrise and sunset, right on his balcony. • Natural Breeze — When it rains, get to the balcony for a guaranteed view of droplets trickling from the attap roof, paired with heavenly cold breeze. • Decent service — Clean room, clean towel, and a pair of swim towels are provided upon arrival. Great hosts very friendly, and diligent housekeeping. Some of the amenities provided are parking, Wi-Fi, air-condition (when it gets too hot and humid), as well as a clean swimming pool. Do take note that no toothbrushes or toothpastes supplied, but there is a sundry shop located just below the main house for late night snacking. Highly suggest reading the Guest Guide for all Yes and No's during the stay there.

What a great place to spend a long weekend getaway. Just got back from 4 nights in the Forest House at Sunset Valley and we couldn't be happier with our decision to stay here. The location is right in the middle of Langkawi which puts everything within 30 minutes drive. The houses are top notch and has everything you need for a perfect holiday. Our kids loved roaming around the gardens, lying in the hammocks, jumping in the pools and chasing the 3 pet dogs. … Thanks, Gudrun and David, for having us at your lovely resort. We'll definitely share our experience and come back when we're next in Langkawi.

Set in pure natural environment, long stretching paddy fields and mountains, with pangung (wooden) Houses, the place really meets your soul with peace.
The homely wonderful hosts Gudrun and David just make your stay even memorable…

Thanks for amazing and relaxing stay. The 3 days were awesome. I enjoyed trying out traditional Malay accommodation and also hanging around the pool. I really love the garden, with so many flowers, threes and even the water monitor lizards! This place is really perfect for person who loves nature. Sunset Valley is very private, with just 6 houses, so it will never be too noisy and crowded.
The place is run by international couple, she is from Germany, he is from Australia, so they know very well the way around Langkawi and Malaysia. They are friendly and really great and carrying hosts.

Peaceful, beautiful, up close with nature, lush greenery surrounding us especially the paddy fields.
