+: close to the station, old town, and all the restaurants/minimarkets you need. Pretty goof Wi-Fi and sufficient amount of sockets -: spacewise it is a flat for max 5 persons (now a hostel for 20+ people). No such table or something for the receptionist so everyone will be confused at the first time. With €12.5 per night, not much can be expected, but hygene is the main concern. Seems like the floor, toilet, and shower have never been cleaned for ages, expired foods are still in the kitchen and fridge, flies all around, and the whole flat stinks badly. Moreover, there is no such security sistem like cctv, and during the day the door is always open that everyone can come in.
I'd just like to start by saying that I've been traveling through the poorest parts of Eastern Europe for the past 3 months. Now with that in mind, Smart Hostel is nothing more than a glorified storage locker with beds. Supposedly based in Riga's Old Town, the only thing 'old' about this hostel was the atrocious facilities. We were not notified of any inconveniences that were present such as the roadworks right out our window nore were we issued an apology. Something as trivial as that could have been forgiven if it were not for the disgraced kitchen, shower, and dormitories. The kitchen had a constant swam of flies and the showers had dried blood-filled phlegm strewn across the wall. The sauna inspired dormitories added nothing to the comfort of the establishment. If it were not for the upfront payment, my friends and I would have walked straight out. I can unequivocally say that Smart Hostel was the worst experience of my holidaying life and would highly recommend avoiding if possible. 1/10
