Mosaic Hostel is an awesome place to stay for both solo travelers and groups. The staff are amazing! Everyone I met was very cool and helpful. Shower facilities are clean and the sleeping pods provide enough privacy to relax when you need. The communal area is great for socializing and meeting your fellow travelers. Happy hour every evening and free dinner on Tuesdays. Shout out to the super hosts I got to meet: Riza, Masashi, Maki and Takaya!

Just book it! Don’t think twice. There isn’t a better place than this in Kyoto. Super amazing staff who are ready to help you and guide you. They are proficient in English. The hostel is well managed and organized. The beds are comfortable and large. The shower room and toilets are cleaned daily. There is a big hall near the reception area where you can hang out, watch movies, listen songs, have your food and drinks. You can rent bicycles. The hostel in 7 mins walk from kyoto station and 1 min walk from nearest bus stop. There is a big shopping mall near the hostel where you will find everything you need. They have a beautiful terrace where you can relax and watch the starry sky while sleeping on a hammock. They provide you with one day bus pass for kyoto too. All in all a perfect place to stay in Kyoto.

Awesome stay, please keep the 30 persons dorm temperature to 65 degree Fahrenheit. It gets really hot at night.

This has been such an amazing stay here! The price is great and everything is amazing. The beds are very nice, a towel is provided, and the staff is fantastic. There is a really nice rooftop porch and a great laundry room. I highly recommend it here!

One of the best hostel I have ever seen with amazing rooftop. Staff is super friendly. A few grocery stores around. And of course location! It’s easy to rich from Kyoto station and several spots no more than 10 minutes walk. I really enjoyed this place!

I can confidently say that Mosaic hostel is my favorite hostel of all time! I’ve stayed in many hostels around the world and nothing beats the atmosphere, staff, facilities, and cleanliness of Mosaic. I was lucky enough to stay for 5 nights and was sad to leave. A very social environment, it was easy to meet other travelers and the staff gave great suggestions. They had instruments to play and even got karaoke going for us. Was lucky to be there for a local meet-up. Rooms were comfortable, well designed, and clean. Also loved the roof deck. I hope to come back some day! Thanks staff!

If you come to Kyoto I HIGHLY suggest this hostel. It’s one of the best hostel experience I’ve ever encountered. All the girls who work here are so chill so fun and cool and have a lot to suggest for experiences, all guests that stayed were also extremely friendly. Atmosphere on point.

Simply the best! I couldn't fault The Mosaic Hostel on anything. The place itself is modern, clean and everything that you could need during your stay, plus it's in a great location. Above everything though, the staff are brilliant! Friendliest people and will do anything to help you out! Nothing but praise for them and will definitely make this my place to stay when I return to Japan.

Room is very neat and clean. I like the bed. It has its own separate beds and spaces. If I turn on my bed light, I don't interrupt other roommates. Shower room has enough hot water and it provides shampoo, conditioner and body soap. Very nice and clean sinks and washroom. I really like the environment here, thanks!

Good location. Once you buy a 1-day Kyoto Bus Pass you can take buses to several destinations departing from the bus station nearby. The only con I see, a 30 bed-capsules mixed dorm with no air circulation. I found too warm. The air was vicious, the room smelly because there was simply too many people. They should open the doors and windows for a couple of hours daily to renovate the air. I wonder if someone sick with a nasty flu stay there it would spread to everyone. Other than that the shower is good and the staff gentle and helpful.

This hostel was fantastic, location was 10 mins walk from the Kyoto main station and was easy to get to. We stayed In standard double with shared bathroom facilities and found that the room was clean and well provisioned. The only negatives were that the hostel was not near many eating locations and we were not accustomed to the Japanese style of accmodation and struggled with the thinness of the mattresses. Overall had a great 3 nights and would recommend.

Kyoto is lovely and Mosaic Hostel is a great launch pad for the area. Located around 5 minutes from Kyoto station, your are close to all public transport options. They provide many amenities, such as Bar and Cafe services, locker storage, laundry, showers and a rooftop patio. They also have a N64 with Super Smash Brothers to help you get friendly with all the new acquaintances you'll meet. I could not recommend staying here any higher.

This hostel is very modern and clean. The staff speak English very well. They're able to provide itinerary suggestions. The mixed dorm can be smelly at times. The capsule beds also need a better form of ventilation because it can get quite stuffy.

Clean, cheap and nearer to Kyoto Station. A good place to sleep in Kyoto. Very friendly staff, they recommend us some local nice restaurants very closed to the hostel.

As the second stop on our trip to Japan, we had high hopes for Kyoto and our temporary home. Suffice to say our expectations were met, and surpassed. Mosaic Hostel gave us a warm welcome and an awesome place to rest, we even found it an exciting place to meet people and spend time in the evenings. We cannot recommend this place enough, with great lodgings, an awesome atmosphere and the most amazing team running the place, we will gladly return on our next trip, cannot wait! Thank you Mosaic!

Stayed at tatami room that fits 5 people. 4 capsule bed and enough room for a person to lie down on tatami. The toilets and shower areas are communal, but they are completely walled in so it feels very private and personal. There are food and drinks available from the hostel, but there are a lot of local restaurants near by and looking and exploring around is not bad idea. Very clean hostel with friendly staffs.

I'm only half way through my stay and I already love it here. The private room is pretty small but I wouldn't expect much more from a hostel. The staff are really friendly and super helpful. The common area has a great vibe with a kitchen too, and the food terrace is awesome.

Affordable room rates. Double bunk bed room is great for a multi day visit to Kyoto and surrounding area.

The walls in the 30-bed dorm are thin. Otherwise it is a nice hostel. The bathrooms and showers are really nice. (Shampoo/soap provided. ) The dryer doesn't work very well.

Mosaic Hotel Kyoto was a wonderful place to stay. It was a bit hard to find from the station. I had to eventually travel on National Road 143 to find the hostel. The staff speak English and Japanese well, and you can meet so many people from the guests who stay here (busy periods), or have pleasant conversations with whomever is on evening duty. It is a great starting point for any vacation as you can make friends and go together to both locations within Kyoto, and use local trains to reach the Osaka area within an hour! The 4000 yen price of the per night stay covers a huge storage locker, a cool bunk bed, showering shampoo, and body soaps (even get a free towel for first night and 100 yen per towel thereafter). The all day breakfast here is amazing. It is simple eggs and bacon on toast, but the catch is that you can order it all day. They also know how to cook some mean chicken and potatoes, and even onion rings. Their PR is non-obtrusive, yet existent, and they offer stickers, coin pouches, and for cost, some T-shirts. Their advice books and leaflets left by guests and city officials offer invaluable insights for the researching traveler, also aided by free Wi-Fi for devices and two free-use public computers.

Top hostel near train station. Hip, young people take care of backpackers and travelers. Attention, relatively hard mattresses on tatami mats (typically Japanese). Roof terrace with view.

Booking a Japanese-style room at Mosaic is as close as you will get to a traditional Japanese inn with the friendliness of an international hostel, all for the cheapest rate we could find in central Kyoto during peak spring season. The place's interior design and bathroom facilities would place it more in the hotel than hostel category were it not for the communal setup. The futon beds on tatami floors can be a bit hard for guests not used to this type of bedding and noisy guests can be heard from room to room.

This is a great hostel! They have cheap drinks (compared to other bars around) The capsules are super comfy and spacious. The place is clean. They have a ¥500 breakfast and events where you make Japanese food and eat with the other guests. English speaking staff, kitchen and lounge area. Everything about this place is great!

As good as a hostel can get. Super comfy capsules. Good locker storage. People were respectful of quiet rules in room. Very helpful attendants ga e me recommendations of what to do in kyoto.

Pros: It's a new hostel so everything is fresh and clean. Beds are cubicles with curtains which are spacious and offer privacy. Everyone gets a free, big locker which you can fit all of your luggage in, plus a space to hang & dry your towel. Free toiletries. The communal area is always busy and has plenty going on – films, drinks, making traditional Japanese food, etc. Staff join in and have lots of energy. We stayed over New Year and the hostel really made it for us. Easy even for shy travellers to start chatting. Cons: Kitchen is in the common area which might be awkward when people are watching films, drinking etc.
