We stayed here just last week, everything was perfect from the hosts Eric and Fumie, the food (Fumie cooks like a pro chef), the location, their beautiful dog Hime and the room itself. I couldn't recommend highly enough! We'll be back for sure.

Backcountry Lodge is our favorite place to stay in Hakuba. The lodge is cozy, spacious and very clean and located in a quiet and peaceful area. The owners/staff are the best part of it though, they are kind and helpful with anything you need.

Awesome place to stay! Warm, very reasonably priced, excellent food and staff who are very accommodating. Location is also excellent, 5-10 minutes from all good Hakuba Ski Resorts. We will be back again!

We stayed here in Jan 2018 for 3 days with our 1 year old and our dog. The hosts were so accommodating and extremely helpful. The best place we’ve ever stayed at when we go on our yearly ski trips. Great food and cozy place after a long day on the slopes! Fumie is a wonderful cook! Highly recommend!

We check-in the lodge and immediately fall in love with hime — Chan (their lovely golden retriever)! Overall we have a good room given to us with comfy beds and a mini attic. We went snowboarding almost every day and the bed most definitely made us slept like pigs. The fireplace at the living room is very good to relax as well. Breakfast was delicious with erik’s Wife a great Chef. Erik was also very helpful in terms of sharing information with us about the ski area and restaurants. He would also drop us at the ski resort when he’s free. Lovely stay indeed! Will defo come back again for summer :)

The Backcountry Lodge has easily the best Lodge experience available in Hakuba. The Owners of the Lodge have a deep local knowledge and will easily help make your stay in Hakuba an amazing one.

This is a fantastic place to stay. Rooms are warm, beds are comfortable. Breakfasts are excellent. The hosts are very helpful and nothing is to much trouble.

Amazing! Quaint, the perfect little getaway. Service is wonderful. A must visit even if you just want to get away for a a few days.

Very, very friendly hosts, an American Japanese couple in love with dogs. Cosy place, nice and quiet surrounding, colorful room, fireplace, diner if you want and book a day before. And at last a western breakfast with corn flakes and milk! ;-P.
