I injured my head in the guesthouse. Fortunately they had medical insurance. So I could saw a doctor and treated well. Thank you so much mrs. Maki!

Wonderful place, with super friendly staff in a quiet location, with good connections to all attractions!

This place is magnificent! The owner of this place is very well-versed in Chinese and English. Not a problem when conversing with foreign tourists. The owner offered an upgrade to a 4-person room with an attached bathroom instead of 2 double rooms which I think is a plus. The 4-person room has 2 "floors" which are inter-connected via a small stairway. Free refill of water is available at the ground floor, a microwave oven is available too should you decide to splurge on food from Family Mart or even 7-11. Around 10 mins walk to the Kiyomizu Temple. This guesthouse is situated far from the town center but is easily to anywhere via the public bus. Shampoo, body wash lotion and toothbrush are available readily in the 4-person room. They also offer breakfast and Kyoto 1-day bus pass. The place is firmly secured with a password-required lock between 11pm to 7am. Laundry service together with a drier is available at the guesthouse should you need to wash your clothes if they get too smelly.

Written from a Singaporean's perspective as we can be demanding tourists! We travelled as 3 couples and 3 kids 1-5 years old. Having stayed with the owners Sim, Maki and their 2 lovely daughters in their previous lodge, Sim's Cozy, 10 years ago, my friends and I unanimously agreed to stay with them again as we thoroughly enjoyed the standard of their lodging, their sincere hospitality and wonderful food! We are even more impressed and pleased this time round! As expected, great place that's very clean, comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Maki and her staff are always helpful, accommodating and friendly people and makes a big difference to our experience! It is walking distance to Kiyomizu-dera and a couple other Kyoto sights so was easy for us to travel anywhere. There's even a small kids play area so parents can relax a-little at the sofa as the young ones play there. Breakfast is SUPERB value! You won't be getting this standard anywhere outside at 500 Yen. My wife and I loved the Jap breakfast especially. Go for it! Thank you Maki and staff. We will be back again for sure!

I really enjoyed my stay here! Pros: sleeping on the floor was amazing and I always felt rested, staff are very friendly and made you feel welcomed, they have an AC in the room which was good on hot days, a cute little convenience store right opposite the guesthouse and the best thing it’s in walking distance of the Kiyomizu-dera temple — Cons: it’s a bit far away from the city centre but there is a bus station down the road, it can get loud until 10pm — bring ear plugs just in case you’re a light sleeper and you can sometimes smell the cooking from downstairs but it didn’t bother me that much.

I can really recommend this guesthouse. The owners and staff are very friendly and have great tips for sight-seeing. The location is great, close to Kyomizudera and busstop is within walking distance. Rooms and facilities are modern and clean. We were even invited to a family dinner which was delicious and good fun!
I would definitely go here again when visiting Kyoto!

Friendly staff, bikes to rent but small rooms and not so comfi matrass.

Shower was not a good design. No separate compartment for dry clothes. Bedroom was not too comfy. Friendly staff though helpful in tourist areas. They sell breakfast and provide bus passes. Rent bikes. Decent location.

Very good option for a basic stay in a quiet corner of kyoto. Helpful stuff, affordable rates.

Maki, Sim and the Guesthouse Soi family made our stay in Kyoto magical. We got to see the beautiful city whilst feeling right at home in this Japanese-style hostel. The rooms and beds were clean and comfy, breakfasts delicious and the people were helpful, friendly and really made the place memorable. Highly recommend to anyone travelling to Kyoto.

Staff: amazing, Chinese, English, and Korean all spoken. Location: not bad, close to bus stops and 15 min from Subway. Little over 20min walk from Kyoto station. Touristy destinations within walking distance but hordes of tourists aren't in your face. Showers: on the 3rd floor so can be difficult if you live on the first but clean and everything is provided Bathrooms: clean, bidet included Laundry: free detergent but heaters don't work too well, hanging before heating preferred Misc: check out at 10. No 24hr reception but will accommodate, no shoes in the rooms, breakfast can be bought.

Wow, that beautiful experience in this place! Already, Kyoto is full of temples and amazing places, and add to that sleeping in an authentic ryokan is a gold brooch. The owners are a love, make dinners for groups in special occasions and is a great way to learn from them. Super recommended.

We were hosted for five days in December 2015. The stay could not be more satisfactory. The location of the site allows you to stand in the Kyoto station in about 20 minutes on foot. In about 10 or 15 you get off the city bus. Is very close to the Kayomizu-dera temple and a 20-minute walk from Gion. The house is simple, wooden, very cosy. We were at about 0° — 3° and it was nice to enter the house. Each room has air conditioning (cold/heat), and are very sober, very zen. We were in a traditional double. The futon is very comfortable, and are equipped with linen and towels. The owners of the house are charming. Always try to make you feel comfortable and help you at any time with any questions that you have. Do not speak Spanish, but are in it :). As in Japan the language is not a barrier, although it looks like, you need very few words to be understood. In summary, a great place to feel at home in Kyoto, for a price that is very tight and a few hosts unbeatable.

Great budget accommodation. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent inexpensive breakfast. And you can't beat the family room when traveling with kids.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. You can rent bikes cheaply, which I recommend for exploring Kyoto.

Charming guest house family-run. Clean, well organized and intimate. Homemade cooked dinners and breakfasts a welcomed plus.

Good place to stay in Kyoto. Great bathrooms and showers, clean all around, friendly staff, lockers, washers and dryers and even a great common space. The only drawback is in my opinion the location which isn't really close to anything.

Great. They have everything you need. Cheaper breakfast and bike rental service than in town. Friendly staff. Brand new bath room. Clean room. Good location near gion. Only negative thing was. A noisy neighbour. But this can happen in any guesthouses. Enjoy your stay.
