Review of Hotel Don Abbondio 3*

I stayed twice in this hotel, alone, so I booked single room. But let's start from the beginning. Located in a magnificent square pedestrian island, a few tens of meters from the Adda River. Away from the center of Lecco that can be reached on foot or more comfortably by car but then with parking difficulties. In this small square there is a very nice wine bar that in the evening is populated with people. In the morning many people jog on the small river that runs along the river and many others take the pooches for a walk. Very impressive square, so the approach is the best. The hotel from outside is also very inviting, lots of greenery, outdoor tables and a truly romantic look. Cross the threshold. The monuff changes. It's run down and pretty bad air. At the reception I am told where it is, after the usual practice, I am handed the keys to my room and I am told where it is. No one accompanies me, no one helps me to bring or luggage and there is no elevator. Old room, tiny, really dirty looking carpet, bad amenities. In my room there is no safe as I saw in pictures of other rooms. The bed is very small and uncomfortable. The look at my room is on a pretty shabby alley. There's no view from my view. There is no doorman at night in the hotel and the entrance is closed at a certain time of the evening. If you do later you are given a key/card with which to enter from a dark back door and not easy to locate. The morning normal buffet breakfast. I forgot in my room not even the fridge with a bottle of water, so before going to sleep you have to refuel otherwise you risk dying of thirst. I read that there are new rooms, if it's true you definitely ask for those because if you're alone and you get a room like mine, you'll have a night of nightmares. I do not know if there is a chance of restaurant as I always went out in the morning and came back in the evening. You will say why I went there twice, because they sent me. Despite let's say cheap, I find it very expensive as value for money. This has been my experience and that's why I don't want to recommend it. I read about people who had a great time, it will mean that I happened at the wrong time or that I was unlucky. However I recommend a good renovation and urgent replacement of the carpet. And the lights. That after a moment you pass they go off and you stay in the dark in the corridors and stairs. There was no air conditioner in my room. Hot dead.
