This is our third trip to Venice in 10 years. The past two visits we've stayed in hotels around St. Marks which are costly and the hotel rooms and bathrooms are notoriously small. It is easy to end up feeling cramped. On this visit we thought we'd head to a new part of town, the Arsenale and try a B and B experience. We are delighted with our room at La Casa del Mercante and are not bothered by having to access the bathroom outside our room… it's a huge bathroom in comparison with more typical venetian hotels, clean and if you are a bath lover has its own bath. The room is simply appointed but the bed is comfortable with a good mattress with (again not always a given in some of those four star hotels around St. Marks). The air conditioning is fab and a fridge and tea and coffee facilities in the room mean it's easy to cater a bit for yourself. Weve enjoyed discovering new places to eat where the local venetians are eating along Via Garibaldi. A nice surprise. We'd definitely recommend to visitors as the B and B is really easy to access and locate from the arsenale water bus stop. If you are arriving at piazza roma get a bus pass and sit back and watch Venice and the grand canal go by. I can think of no better way to arrive. Do downscale your luggage to the minimum you can bear. There is nothing worse than trying to negotiate Venice with heavy bags and not knowing where you are going. You also want space to shop!
➜ Nothing wrong with the room and great it is great and has a nice view. We're right next to Arsenal. Right next to a vaporetto station. We're just a 10-minute walk from St Mark's Square. The bathroom is separate from the bedroom but private. Large and well heated. Above all Savina is the host who belongs to her is a superb woman. She speaks French takes time to stay and talk and give us advice, nouq explain that see or go, how to go so I strongly advise to go there.
