The hotel is in perfect spot along the grand canal, lovely to have breakfast and chill there. Hotel was spotless and decorated to very high standard. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.

The location is the first thing that hits you as you arrive hot and sweaty from your journey. Located right next to a Vaporetto stop, the hotel's courtyard overlooks the Grand Canal. This was a lovely place to relax but especially at breakfast and in the evening with a drink. In the Dosoduro district of Venice there are some great cafes restaurants and bars in the area, marginally cheaper than St Mark's etc.
Our room was stunning — no other word describes it. Dark wood; silk wallpaper and curtains; high ceilings and beautiful lighting combined with an efficient air conditioning system to give us a peaceful and cool retreat when the temperatures soared.
The decor and ambiance have been carefully thought through and we were very pleased with the service we received. We visited in August post Corona and everywhere in Venice is short staffed. We had a wonderful holiday and staying at this hotel had a lot to do with that.

I stayed at the Hotel Stern the first week of February, before things got crazy. This is a lovely hotel. The rooms & amenities are classy. The hotel is well situated next to a vaporetto stop (for local service and the airport). The Dorsoduro neighborhood has some lovely restaurants & shops.

Everything at the Hotel Palazzo Stern is wonderful, but the best part of this hotel is the people running it. My wife and I didn't have a Grand Canal view room, but it was very nice. Every time we came down to the lobby or returned from touring the people made us feel like we were the owners of the hotel. That's what makes this hotel so special.

The staff at this high class hotel are 5 star — from Roberto on the desk to Michael doing anything that we needed was no trouble — very chic and would recommend for anyone looking a prime Hotel in a Central location in Venice.

Fantastic location — apart from their own boats / the vaperetto station is just next to the hotel. Overlooking the grand canal, albeit in a quieter side.

This hotel has a great ambiance, is historical, and a great location on the Grand Canal with water taxi stop right next door.
The hotel staff were wonderful and the manager set up a private Venice tour with a fantastic local guide (Donatella Frezza), who showed us places in Venice we may never have discovered on our own. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, the breakfasts buffets were plentiful and this is a wonderful Hotel to stay at! 2 Thumbs up WAY UP!

The Hotel is superb and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. The staff are very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. Perfect to explore Venice and an ACTV/ Alilugana stop outside the Hotel.

We stayed for 5 wonderful nights at the Hotel Palazzo Stern this August. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in a Junior Suite with views of the Grand Canal and could not have been happier with the accommodations. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Fifteen meters from a Vaporetto stop so it's super-easy to get around. Good local eats nearby. Our accommodations were superb and I cannot recommend the Hotel Palazzo Stern highly enough. There were a couple of minor quirks but the overall experience was so good that I won't bother mentioning them.

Amazing hotel, service, and staff. They surprised us with champagne and a personal birthday note. The breakfast is also spectacular and it's in a convenient location.

To know some Venetian palaces this one is among the most endearing.
Practically one of the most suitable to "search" the Serinissime.
What about the place… it is the 15th century, the reception by Ludovico is delicate, almost old-fashioned.

We stayed hwre in August, and fell in love with the beautiful architecture! The location is amazing, right by the public water taxi. We loved the patio in the morning — it was perfect to eat breakfast and drink cappucino before our day!

Palazzo Stern is a true gem, and was one of the highlights of our stay in Venice. From the gracious, knowledgeable and professional staff, to the grand and historical architecture of the building, to our beautiful and comfortable room, to the perfect location right on the Grand Canal and next to a vaporetto stop, every aspect of our stay there was exceptional. We were very lucky to be guests at Palazzo Stern, and we cannot wait to return.

Wonderful Location with beautiful terrace on the Grand Canal. Too bad for having big problems with hot water and the service at breakfast little attentive. At 400 euros per night are drawbacks that are not acceptable.

We stayed for 2 nights in this beautiful hotel… and we were upgraded to suite… the service and hospitality was wonderful… the room was a delight with good night chocolates magically placed on our pillows every night when returned back… breakfast layout was sufficient and tasted great… the staff at the reception table was a pleasure to be welcomed by and be greeted by every morning… wonderful experience all in all…

Beautiful boutique lodging on the Grand Canal. Excellent location with vaporetta outside providing great access to all of Venice and its islands. Thankfully a distance from the hub bub of San Marco, but cloise enough to enjoy the concerts there. We had a ground level suite that was two stories with the obligatory Ventian chandelier over the staircase. Couldn't have asked for more. Beautiful hotel balcony and elegant bar. Would go back.

I found Palazzo Stern by accident. When I first started coming to Venice it was still a privately owned residence although I had taken pictures from it from the other side of the Grand Canal because, although rebuilt on the site of the old Palazzo Michiel in the early 20th century it looked so lovely. I was trying to track down another canal-side palace but found myself at Palazzo Stern, named after the Germans who rebuilt it. It was pouring with rain and I was soaking wet and must have looked like some vagrant rather than any potential guest as I had no rainwear or umbrella but the man on reception was extremely helpful and I went home and told my wife that we should stay here. And we did and we keep coming back. The reason is that is that it so totally suits our needs. The staff are terrific from the two small, smiling Phillipino men who wait at table at breakfast and also take and collect your luggage, to the men who work on receptionist to the chambermaids. Everyone is polite, friendly and helpful. The hotel only does breakfast which also suits us because we can decide where and how much we want to spend elsewhere and pay for the luxury of a junior suite overlooking the Grand Canal. We take the same room on the second floor each time we come. It is always spotlessly clean, spacious with comfortable chairs to sit in and gaze out over Venice's main artery plus a desk to work at if necessary.

Amazing little hotel. All rooms are like the rooms inside of a boat. The windows are on the ceiling and the beds are great. Beautiful patio overlooking the canals. Easy walk to many places to dine, shop and museums. You will not be disappointed.

First visit to Venice and I think I found the perfect Hotel. Read the Reviews and you will see that most people fell in love with this place. It has a great location on the Grand Canal. Vaporetto stop for line 1; Alilaguna Orange line from the airport drops you here as well. Walk down Calle Lunga S. Barnaba and you hit a small Campo S. Barnaba that has great restaurants, Cafes and Gelato. Plus the best spot to take a Gondola ride from. The Hotel is very nice. Besides all of the upscale amenities, there is free Wifi and Breakfast every morning. Staff is super helpful. We asked for suggestions on dinner and had one of the finest meal during our time in Venice. I could go on and on about the room and the hotel, but I don't think I can add anymore than the other 963 (and counting) Tripadvisor reviews had said. The location adds and extra bump to this hotel. If you want a gondola ride, avoid the crowds along the Grand Canal (unless you want to ride in the Grand Canal). Go to Campo San Baranba and look for Gondoliers across from the church. You will get a relaxing quiet back channel ride.

After careful research — and looking to avoid a large tourist hotel — we booked a room at the Hotel Palazzo Stern. Just before the trip, however, I wound up on crutches. We notified the hotel, and when we arrived, they put us into one of the ground floor rooms, just behind the concierge desk. As an added plus, this small but exquisite room had a small private balcony, which sat just above a side canal. I would explore Venice on crutches by day (and the Dorsoduro neighborhood has long been my favorite in La Serenissima), then I'd buy some fresh sweets or cookies, and sit on our private balcony for the afternoon, reading a wonderful book, having coffee and treats and get greeted by the gondoliers who drifted by. I could look out onto the Grand Canal, and watch the water traffic go by, then look up at the goings-on in the beautifully frescoed palazzo just on the other side of the side canal. Another treat was sitting on the large patio fronting the Grand Canal, which has table service from the hotel's bar and watching the whole crazy world of Venice parade in front of our hotel. I could tell you more about the great location, the great nearby restaurants and museums, but I think you get the idea of why I love this hotel. It's an oasis that's far away from the everyday madness and mundanity of life.

Came to venice for a silver wedding celebration, and could not have chosen a better hotel. Well situated for local cafes and bars, and walking distance to st. Marks square. Staff are first class. We were treated like royalty. Rooms are spacious and very well equipped. The whole hotel is immaculate. When we return to venice, I'd have no hesitation in rebooking.
