Got an amazing insight into the life of the great Rani of Jhansi! Thanks to the cooperative and friendly staff from the archaeological survey of India for explaining everything about the fort clearly! Would recommend to anyone visiting Jhansi to visit especially in the evening. Get a breathtaking view of the city from the fort!

For the day a nominal ticket of 15 rupee to see the whole fort and for the night show 50 rupee's were charges per person for foreign it's may different.

Jhansi Fort – झाँसी का किला उत्तरी भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश की भंगीरा पहाड़ी पर स्थित है। 11 वी शताब्दी से 17 वी शताब्दी तक यह बलवंत नगर के चंदेल राजा का गढ़ था। इस किले का निर्माण 1613 में ओरछा साम्राज्य के शासक और बुन्देल राजपूत के चीफ बीर सिंह देव ने किया था। बुंदेला का यह सबसे शक्तिशाली गढ़ हुआ करता था। 1728 में मोहम्मद खान बंगेश ने महाराजा छत्रसाल पर आक्रमण कर दिया था। जिसमे पेशवा बाजीराव ने महाराजा छत्रसाल को मुग़ल साम्राज्य की सेना को परास्त करने में सहायता की थी। उनका आभार व्यक्त करते हुए महाराजा छत्रसाल ने उन्हें राज्य का कुछ भाग भी दे दिया था, जिनमे झाँसी भी शामिल है। इसके बाद 1742 में नारोशंकर को झाँसी का सूबेदार बना दिया गया। अपने 15 साल के कार्यकाल में उन्होंने केवल झाँसी को विकसित ही नही किया बल्कि झाँसी के आस-पास दूसरी इमारते भी बनवाई। 1757 में जब नारोशंकर को पेशवाओ ने वापिस बुला लिया था, तब माधव गोविन्द ककिर्दे और फिर बाबूलाल कनहाई को झाँसी का सूबेदार बनाया गया। 1766 से 1769 तक विश्वासराव लक्ष्मण ने झाँसी का सूबेदार बने रहते हुए सेवा की थी। इसके बाद रघुनाथ राव द्वितीय की नियुक्ति झाँसी के सूबेदार के रूप में की गयी। रघुनाथ एक कुशल प्रशासक था, उन्होंने राज्य का राजस्व बढ़ाने में भी काफी सहायता की और किले के अंदर महालक्ष्मी मंदिर और रघुनाथ मंदिर का भी निर्माण करवाया।

Well maintained fort with security. Get good panaromic scenic beauty of the town around. Large area. Can feel the greatness of those historic times being there.

उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य के झाँसी में बंगरा नामक पहाड़ी पर १६१३ इस्वी में यह दुर्ग ओरछा के बुन्देल राजा बीरसिंह जुदेव ने बनवाया था। २५ वर्षों तक बुंदेलों ने यहाँ राज्य किया उसके बाद इस दुर्ग पर क्रमश मुगलों, मराठों और अंग्रजों का अधिकार रहा। मराठा शासक नारुशंकर ने १७२९-३० में इस दुर्ग में कई परिवर्तन किये जिससे यह परिवर्धित क्षेत्र शंकरगढ़ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ। १८५७ के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में इसे अत्यधिक महत्वपूर्ण स्थान प्राप्त हुआ। १९३८ में यह किला केन्द्रीय संरक्षण में लिया गया। यह दुर्ग १५ एकड़ में फैला हुआ है। इसमें २२ बुर्ज और दो तरफ़ रक्षा खाई हैं। नगर की दीवार में १० द्वार थे। इसके अलावा ४ खिड़कियाँ थीं। दुर्ग के भीतर बारादरी, पंचमहल, शंकरगढ़, रानी के नियमित पूजा स्थल शिवमंदिर और गणेश मंदिर जो मराठा स्थापत्य कला के सुन्दर उदाहरण हैं। कूदान स्थल, कड़क बिजली तोप पर्यटकों का विशेष आकर्षण हैं। फांसी घर को राजा गंगाधर के समय प्रयोग किया जाता था जिसका प्रयोग रानी ने बंद करवा दिया था। किले के सबसे ऊँचे स्थान पर ध्वज स्थल है जहाँ आज तिरंगा लहरा रहा है। किले से शहर का भव्य नज़ारा दिखाई देता है। यह किला भारतीय पुरातत्व विभाग के संरक्षण में है और देखने के लिए पर्यटकों को टिकट लेना होता है। वर्ष पर्यन्त देखने जा सकते हैं।यहॉ सड़क तथा रेल मारग दोनो से पहुँचा जा सकता है।

A very clean and tidy fort I've ever visited. It provides a light and sound show in evening in summers. Fort is good to visit in winters.

I love exploring forts and therefore I went to the famous Jhansi fort after attending a friend's wedding in Jhansi. To my surprise, it was not maintained as it should have been. Still, I liked the place. Worth visiting at least once.

Loved the place. Its beautiful. There is still scope of a lot of maintainance. Its smells urine all over. Its a historic place and should be conserved with proper care. I also appeal the people from desisting from such activities. We all have to come forward to secure our history. Any how u can easily spend 2 hours here. Entry fee is Rs. 15 for Indians and Rs. 200 for other nationals.

A must visit while in Jhansi! With the very first step you enter the era of female valour and courage. Do take a guide along as he will add to the ecstasy. The train station is only 10 minutes away by auto ride and so again, highly recommended for visit!

Nice place to visit in groups. Though it has lesser stretch, it has more historic importance. Roughly 4 Km from Jhansi Jn. Almost the entire town can be seen from the fort. Best location for a single day getaways. Best if visited in the morning or evening times. I would suggest visiting Jhansi fort in February-April is a great option.

Historic fort of has valour and high degree of management skills written in its architecture. The Archeological Survey of India has beautifully brought out the history on its carved placards in front of each part of the monument. The stay of troops, their rations' storage, ammunition storage, provisions for changes in strategies built in the construction of the are very well reflected in the construction.

Good Fort but not properly maintained Park also available inside so a small family outing can be done. Parking area available but kind of small area. Water and washrooms available No food stores inside the fort No food allowed inside either… full of monkeys so avoid Guides irritates you but if you want to know the history in detail use one Tickets 15 rs per person indian International tourist 150rs/person.

The fort lies at the heart of the city. It carries in its walls a monumental saga of the freedom struggle of princely states of India. The different construction materials tell how it was taken over and built upon. The wide open spaces show the splendour in which a whole community of people lived in it, be it frolicking or practising combat. The hidden passages tell tales of the ingenuity of those that built it. If that doesn’t do it for you, there is a light and sound show that brings to life these majestic walls and unfolds their story. Wonderful experience!

The fort in itself is pretty ordinary. But it's on a good location, and the view from atop is impressive. Plus the sign which depicts the place from where Rani Laxmibai jumped on horseback indeed adds to the historical importance and gives goosebumps as you try to recreate the entire scenario. Recommended if you have plans in the vicinity. Not exactly a place worth visiting 'exclusively'.

It's a good place. You can have a 360 degree view of the city. Quiet near railway station and should not take more than 100 rupees to reach there. For is open and big, a good place to hangout as well. Tickets cost 15 rupees and can be purchased separately from the counter.

Historic place, but maintained very poorly. Overview from Indian Flag is very awesome, one can have bird's eye view of Jhansi city. Stay safe from monkeys.

अगर शहर देखना है दूरबीन से, तो ज़रूर जाएं Nice fort between the city, small but watchable. Spending time… less then 1 hour… not many footfall. Best time … Monsoon or late October till march… Parking upto entry gate.

A must visit place if you are visiting Jhansi. It is maintained very well. From the top of the Fort you could have a grand stand view of the entire city. The spot from where the Maharani of Jhansi jumped from the Fort on her horse back with her adopted son to escape the enemy is marked with a board. She is said to have escaped to Gwalior after jumping. She is one of a kind absolutely bold and was very well loved by her subjects. She has found a niche for herself in the Indian History. You could also see the entrance that leads to an under ground escape route to Gwalior Fort from this Fort. You could also see the court place and also the "Hanging" place of convicts who were handed down death penalty. This is first historical place I have seen, which has Braille metal sheet for the visually challenged persons to read and know about the Fort. It is kept at an advantage point as you enter the inside of the For.

Historic place. A tribute to Rani Lakshmi Bai's valour. A lot of walking though.

It's a good place and they have proper guides and notices. But there are writings on the walls that destroy the beauty of the fort. The staff should clean them up.

Historically important fort and is kept in a good condition. The structures are in a good condition and you get a good view of the surrounding from the top. Worth a visit for history and monument enthusiasts.

There are many spots and this place if full of history. However one should definitely see the Bijli canon places right at the entry and the point from where Rani jumped with her horse and escaped with her adopted son. Must watch the light and sound show held at 8 pm everyday. This building needs more attention and can be maintained in a better way.

It was the capital of Bundelakhnd dynasty once and centre for operation of 1857 revolution. Located on bangra named hill gives a mesmerizing view to see. From the fort a wonderful scene can be see of Jhansi city.

Place of valour and sacrifice. Most of its belonging had been removed and preserve in museum which is shocking. Not well maintain. Cleanliness is an issue.

Really. It tells the patriotic story of Rani laxmibai. The fort still has the evidence of Indian british fight. You can see old canons here and the rooftop of the fort from where the queen jumped with riding her horse. Amazing.

One must visit to see our history come alive. try to visit in evening and do purchase ticket for sound and light show which starts at 7 pm. also, according to me, get the sevices of guide which are available at nominal rates at the entry gate. it takes about 1 hour to see and know history with guide. remember light and sound show starts at 7 pm, so plan accordingly. ENJOY ☺☺☺

This place shows our Indian Culture and history. Places are visitable who love dens, caves, forts, etc. Maintenance of this place is very very poor. No security, cleaning staffs, etc. Very much dirty in terms of hygienic.

One of the amazing forts of India. The fort covering approximate area of 5 acre and is located in the center of the Jhansi City. The view is amazing from top. History addicted should visit atleast once. There is an entry fee of Rs. 15/ — for Indian nationals. There are two temples inside the fort. Few small and big cannons are placed showing the strength of the fort. One can take help of a local guide to know the history behind the fort at an affordable charge. Convenient to reach as it is only 4.5 kms far from Jhansi Railway Station. One can find local vehicles to reach there.

What a great hospitality. This hotel is the best jhansi offers. The rooms are quite spacious and properly set up, not to mention the food, amazingly done restaurant with delicious food. I would surely recommend this to anyone travelling to Jhansi, please do visit this place.
