Fantastic location, near to the ice lake Jokulsarlon and many amazing sights as you drive along route 1 in this area. Don’t miss walking behind the hotel, there’s some fantastic views. If you get the northern lights here between the mountains you’re in for an awesome experience.

Recently a group of 10 from North Carolina State University visited Iceland. We stayed at the Hotel Skaftafell and highly recommend the hotel. Accommodations were outstanding, management was extremely helpful and kind, and the food was excellent. Thank you for helping make our trip to Iceland a magical experience.

I visited this area long before the concept of a hotel at Skaftafell, I was camping and engaged in bird surveys. I remember Ragnar, the farmer at Skaftafell and his daughter. Now that shy young girl who brought me fresh milk owns the hotel and I do not have to camp anymore. Seriously, Skaftafell hotel has a warm and friendly ambiance, just like I remember visiting a typical Icelandic farmhouse. The staff are very helpful and that young milkmaid has an even bigger smile than I remember! If you are visiting the Skaftafell area I definitely recommend stay at the Skaftafell Hotel.

This is such a good location. My small family had a happy stay at this hotel. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and hot shower with excellent water pressure. We had a triple room and it was plenty big for us. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights, I had a large corner run in the front such have good views and was large enough for my needs, the room was clean and comfortable however I feel it needs a refresh as it looks slightly dated and tired looking. There is a nice bar upstairs offering great views over the glacier next to the hotel. The restaurant provides evening meals and a breakfast service and both were very good.

This place was ridiculously expensive for what we got but we didn't have any other options. The room had two twins beds that we were easily able to push together to make one bed. The room was tiny, not much space to open two suitcases. We stayed here for 1 night as we explored nearby. The location was great for the puffin tour and Skaftafell nearby. The place was clean but our door rattled with every step down the hall. It felt more like a dorm than a hotel. The big plus for us was the full breakfast, which we weren't expecting. Plenty of granola, breads, croissants, jams, juice, meats, cheese and watery fruit. But I wouldn't stay here again if I had a choice. We had much better accommodations with Airbnb.

I took this hotel because it was the only one to have to availability in the area. Price in August: 300 euros that is not worth them at all. If you go down there you paid the location nothing more. The rooms are not top and small.
But the staff is nice and the breakfast offers a lot of choices as salty as sweet, to level nothing to say!

Being able to hike from the hotel to the glacier (it's about a 30 minute walk, partly on double-track) was a great plus. Overall the room was a good size (we had a family room with two twins and a full bed) with space for our suitcases, and there was a table with two chairs plus a small desk with a (small — enough for two cups) hot water kettle and four mugs, and coffee/tea. The bathroom was the most cramped I've experienced anywhere — really anywhere. The breakfast buffet was very good. The restaurant didn't have a very good selection of vegetarian items for lunch dinner (one entree and one soup) but *luckily* right across the road is the Shell Freysnesi where they have a vegetarian burger, potatoes with bechamel sauce (sometimes), and a vegetarian soup, all for a reasonable price. We ate there instead.

A comfortable hotel with surprisingly big bedrooms. The staff were really helpful. We arrived late and the receptionist made us a sandwich because the restaurant was closed. The backdrop to the hotel is breathtaking with mountains and glaciers intertwined. It is also an excellent stop of to explore the surrounding area.

The rooms are a little small but the view from the window is amazing! The only place you can walk to from the hotel is a gas station, but they have really good food there, made to order. The hotel has a bar and a restaurant, however both are expensive.

Surprisingly spacious rooms. Breathtaking scenary. We arrived after the restaurant was closed and the guy on reception sorted me and my son out with a couple of cheese and ham sandwiches. Local shop and petrol station close by. Plus a world of amazing scenery on your door step.

We stopped in for some food and although it was a bit pricey we really enjoyed it. Staff was great too.

This is more of a very clean youth hostel than a hotel. Our room was absurdly small with barley any space for our luggage. The bathroom was akin to that of the soviet union. I'm 6 feet tall, roughly 180 lbs, and had trouble moving about in the shower. The staff was very nice, and again, the place was very clean. But they're getting away with being the only game in town. Our room was nearly $400 and this was during the off season! Iceland is expensive, but everywhere else we stayed was far superior for the price. There's something fish going on that this hotel has no competition in an otherwise well traveled part of the country.

The hotel has been pretty much in the years and the price is absolutely not justified. The rooms and the hotel is in itself clean and tidy, the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel has a good location to the Skaftafell National Park and to the glacier Lake. One night costs on average €160

Excellent breakfast.

We had a quick bite after our hike, the only place open after 6:30pm. It was decent.

Nice cosy hotel out skirts and rooms are a bit small. It fits the 3 of us and bathroom is well maintained. Food quality taste good. If I have more time would love to stay another night.

A must to stay when you visited Jokulsarlon and Skaftafell. Very nice hotel with beautiful surrounding. Bed are very comfy and clean, breakfast are very good. And most of all… the hospitality of its staff, who have help me in many ways when I got an accident at Jokulsarlon. I really appreciate them so much.

Breakfast was great, the dinner was very expensive. The room in the wind is not good noise, the wind is harsh, if the weather is good to see the Aurora is still worthwhile, otherwise very general.

Going to the glacier pool? This is the place to stay if you're anywhere near the national park. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet is a good option for not cooking or reheating frozen meals. It's a perfectly quiet place, but I'd still recommend staying in the rooms that are at the bottom (in case you are traveling with your S. O. Hehe). It has nicely lit areas to enjoy a book or a chat before going to bed.

A quiet and well run family hotel. A good range of continental (cold) breakfast options, and good food at dinner too. Well located for local tours, with good connections to the guides, so can help with booking.

Very good location Petrol Station and catering right in front which can limit the cost of meals.
Nice rooms, lack can be a little bit of soundproofing with the hallway.
Presence of a panoramic bar on the floor.

Great place to stay! The room was very clean, all appliances we're functional, the breakfast was tasty, and the views were amazing! Definitely walk up the small hill behind the rear building (rooms 301-314), you won't regret it! P. S. — My wife loved the heated floor in the bathroom.

It's a great place to stay! Clean nice rooms, breakfast is included and VERY Good. It's a great place to stay if you have an early morning glacier hike because it's only a 10 minute drive to the meet up point. Book in advance they are a busy place.

Not up to the high standard the prices and stars suggest. Was ok to sleep for a night (despite really soft mattresses) and it's located wonderfully. Very unsatisfactory breakfast buffet, the worst we had at all our (often much cheaper) accommodations.

Clean but small rooms. The staff at the breakfast buffet hardly ever shows up. They don't clean the tables and they don't even say "good morning" to the guests. Breakfast is not very good. Restaurant in the evening is a completely different world: nice staff and very good food.

Nice hotel that includes breakfast. Room comfortable but small no carpeting in room. Bathroom has a shower no tub or wash cloths. Breakfast was good lots of selections Staff very friendly.

The only choice of hotel around the area so it's quite pricey. Nothing is around beside the gas station and the meet up spot for the tours. The rooms are decent.

The view from my room is stunning. Facilities are quite basic but clean and very warm (visiting in February)! Super easy access to the glacier lagoons and various local tours.

Good rooms but not over prefabricated way. But the comfort is. Top breakfast and dinner excellent buffet. The place is isolated from everything, beautiful corner.

The restaurant service unpleasant, to believe that they don't care about customer since they are the only "grand hotel" in the area. This contrasted really with all the hotels we visited in Iceland where the staff was always friendly and helpful. In addition the quality of the dishes was sufficient, but no more. A Board, cross the road to spend a most enjoyable meal at the truck stop located in front of the hotel.

OK hotel, more expensive than Icelandic average — 20k in winter for double. No hotpot, 1gb Wi-Fi limit (reached in less than 30min! ). Restaurant is good but again price above average. In middle of no where, no other options open in wintertime on 30km radius.

My room was in a detached complex. Simple (maybe too much) with a small bathroom but clean and with a great view on mountain directly from the bed. Staff is kind and I think I'll stop by again.

The Fosshotel is 140 kilometres from anywhere situated at the foot of the Skaftafell glazier; the rooms are spotless, the staff great. Our room looked out to the mountains; just amazing. The evening meal; although the menu was limited the food was wonderful. As the hotel is isolated; the Northern Lights did light up the sky; we have breath-taking pictures. You must go.

No free Wi-Fi, staff was rude (the guy from nightshift).
