An elegant place. Finely appointed. Top-rate and non-intrusive service. Let's do architectural terminology. The first image, below, a simple stone balcony; sort of a mauve or tan/sand in this light. Following, that protruberance, bulbuous element, or convexity, what is it called? It's fascia is one half of an hexagonal cylinder. Then the third image, a battlement, a parapet, a crenellation, terms taken from the vocabulary of castles. The problem with this medium is the lack of feedback. You ask a question do you want the answer or is it rhetorical? Well both. A question posed well is it's own answer, or there's satisfaction in distilling the subtlety or nuance. But you do want to know the answer. There are words for these things. Another question, do the words preceed the ideas or vice versa? I think it goes in both directions. Say someone has the answer for me? Any architect or art history major. You can't get it to me. I do get feedback for sure; as I've said this is interactive. But the feedback comes, sometimes nearly immediately, in a language of events: people walking by me past me behind me. People in groups chattering. Even when I don't understand the language, I do have a sense of the intent. The motivations of actions are different from the meaning of words. The former are visceral, intense, and evanescent. They last only as they are felt, in the immediacy of contact, or in Craigslist terminology, "missed connection". Deux Jours, Une Nuit. The premise is that a woman will lose her job unless her co-workers forgo to receive their bonuses. So she spends the weekend approaching them one by one to solicit their support in advance of a vote on the issue Monday. There's parts of it I can't follow but certainly in your own life there are corollaries. It's not infrequent that you take an action patently in opposition to your own best interest. You do this spontaneously, as is it were second nature, even without the benefit of and in opposition to the workings of reason. This cannot be explained. It runs in opposition to everything they tell us about "the selfish gene". And yet people do it, they do it all the time, they do it for strangers. Downloading the Truman Show. Maybe I'll get some ideas how to deal with this. This country's a dream The exterior motifs of this building are something else. Bas relief marble, textured stone, iron gate with organic elements, parabolic arches.
