This hotel is wonderfully old world Germany on the outside when you drive up to it with plenty of free parking. As we walked to the front door, finding it locked, we saw computer printed signs in the window — off humor signs in addition to an unfriendly sign directing you to cold drinks in an outdoor vending machine. At the front was a sign "closed". However due to the kindness of another guest who unlocked the door with his room key, we found our room key on the bar. At this point we were wondering should we stay here or leave. No host/owner/manager to greet/check-in guests — nor to be found during our stay. But we stayed, had a large, nice room with a bathroom. When we showered the water ran all over the bathroom floor as the caulked seal on the glass shower wall had broken away. A very nice buffet breakfast with the smiles of two female servers was welcoming. Many other guests were staying here and enjoyed breakfast. Actually some folks brought their dogs to this hotel. It appears the restaurant and bar are closed to the public — very disappointing as we stayed here for a restaurant on site. Apparently we met the owner — only at checkout — who hovered over his laptop and presented us with our final bill. I find the impersonalization exhibited at this hotel unusual and disappointing. The facilities are nice but management is indifferent. You couldn't pick a more authentic play to stay. Hopefully management will get it's act together soon.

Room was clean and well kelp. Bathroom shower door in room had no seal on the bottom of it so it leaked very badly when used and flooded the bathroom with a good deal of water which made it very dangerous. I had to use every towel in the room just to contain it. I tried to talk to the manger for three days so that they can fix it but he was not around for more than 10 minutes at a time and even then he was out smoking or busy doing something else. The restaurant is not operational nor is the bar like they claim in the advertisement. Breakfast is minimal even for a traditional German breakfast. Food goes fast and is not resupplied so if you get there a little late, better plan to eat out. Two nights in a row, the smell of cigarette smoke was so strong that we had to put towels under the door to try and keep it out of the room. Once again, I tried to speak to the manager about it but he was not around. There is a sign to greet guests out front that points to a outside drink vending machine that reads, Not welcome, but "Fu@king Cold Drinks". I think this is not meant to be funny but to be a dig at those who wish cold beverages and not warm sodas. Tacky and rude in my opinion and should not be outside to greet guests of supposedly family hotel. We won't be gong back there. Better hotels for the same money that are close by.

The staff are very friendly and relaxed. When I asked when check out time was I was met with “when would you like to leave”. This inn is very rustic and traditional if you looking for an old fashioned German cottage inn then you have met your place. Well modernized and still holds that old mountain German cottage feel. Family friendly and provided a crib for my son. Everything down to the nice oak smell just reminds you that you are In the alps is just wonderful. Free parking great view and right off the highway and bar inside with cafe. The rooms are very clean and well kept. It is simple but well lit and has all the modernization while keeping the old German mountain top lodge feel alive. I will definitely be returning and I highly recommend for the price and experience you can’t beat it.

Stunning hotel from the outside and very traditional inside. Check in was a bit odd as we had to press the bell and a buzzer sounded to open the main door. There was nobody around but keys were left on the bar. We were very apprehensive about staying until the owner appeared and said if we didn't stay we would have to pay 90% of the total booking. He was very friendly but informed us that the bar wouldn't be open and there is no restaurant operating now. However, he allowed us to bring in our own drink and food. The rooms are comfortable although pillows are very soft and showers ok but the door leaked badly in room 4 flooding the bathroom. Previous reviews say the road outside is noisy but I am a very light sleeper and road noise did not disturb me. Breakfast is lovely with fresh rolls every morning and a selection of cold meats and cheese, boiled eggs, fruit, yoghurt and cereals. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Schweizerbartl and exploring this beautiful area. I hope that we will be able to return to Bavaria one day to enjoy the stunning scenery and hospitality again.

We stayed as a family, 2 adults and 2 small children, at Schweizerbartl in mid-October of this year. We had reserved the double room for 2 nights but the owner suggested that we take the triple at no extra charge. What a guy. He was very helpful as we know nothing about the area. He even gave us reduced rate passes for the Partnach Gorge for the whole family. He spoke English with my wife and German with me. The hotel is absolutely stunning with detail I have never seen anywhere else. Too bad that our evenings were already pre-planned for dinner. I would have loved to eat there. The dining room is fantastic. Our private room was spacious enough and a sliding door separated the parents from the children if you so desire. Both had windows. The bathroomn is also private and spotless. The beds are like most European beds, so 2 stuck together, but clean and comfortable. We all slept well. All in all, I am giving this establishment full marks because of the direct interaction with the owner and because this hotel really met and surpassed our expectations and needs. Super clean and warm and friendly.

Very very tasty food good beer and an insanely good Willi from Lake Constance.
Conditions totally funny and familiar.

There was no one available to check us out or serve breakfast. Several guests, 5 in fact, were all expecting breakfast and to check out. After 45 minutes of waiting, a cleaning woman showed up. She made some calls but there was no reply. Nobody was able to pay, they only accept cash and we were not about to leave it on an unattended counter. It was very strange. The tables were set for breakfast, our room number along with several others, were reserved. There was no one anywhere in the building. We finally had to leave as were late for our scheduled event. Our schedule was completely upset as we had to spend 40 minutes later in the day to return and find someone to pay. When we did return, after pressing the buzzer 3 or 4 times, a man stumbled out the front door. He laughed off the situation and took our money. It was all very strange and disappointing.

Was here only for a coffee and cake. Therefore, no rating for the Hotel. Coffee was good, service was friendly and toilets clean. A Sunny terrace and several guest rooms available.

After a long trip there made a night stopover and made us feel very comfortable. Clean, spacious room and very tasty dinner. For the motorcycles, space was even made in the garage. Thanks for everything:-)

On the way from Italy back to Munich we always stop here to strengthen ourselves with a small bread time.
The friendly lady of the service is always good on it and a funny person. Food never lasts very long and it tastes great. My liver cheese was very nicely done and it comes hot on the table. I've tried cake before, fine.
Parking lots are plentiful!
Well-kept, cosy Bavarian eatery with beautiful décor.
We will stop again and again in Kaltenbrunn in order to stop the extinction of the inn at least somewhat.

I haven't experienced more unkind staff yet. One was approached by the service with you and she put her arm around the shoulder to refer to one of the place. Coffee, however, very good.

Traditional Bavarian restaurant in the mountain. Food is traditional German, not very sophisticated but well prepared and filling. Very good after a morning of ski. Decoration is traditional : wood and leather. Service is friendly and efficient. A cozy place to rest after a good exercise.

Herr Gebhart and his family never disappoint with their great Bavarian cuisine and historic surroundings. Beautiful history and culture on the walls only second to the wonderful cooking!
Varied menu but all ate excellent! In the warmer months, seating also included outdoors.

Liked the outdoor, everything was just fine!

Most all rooms are facing the road where the traffic runs all night and day. Very stuffy and hot in rooms and when we opened the window to cool off we couldn't sleep due to the load traffic. When my relatives were moved to another room facing The backside of the hotel, the roosters started crowing at 4am. The beds were hard. Had to pay extra for a continental breakfast that was just ok. Clean and nicely decorated. Would not recommend due to location on busy road that they don't mention.

A super nice guest house with very large and clean rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food in the dining room and the buffet Breakfast are very, very good. Only to recommend. We had wonderful days there. We will come back again. The price-performance ratio is perfectly fine.
