We have traveled all around the world, and we make it a point never to return to the same place twice. The Hotel Gablerhof made us violate our own rules! We stayed there for 5 nights in 2013 (see previous review), and we returned for 6 nights this May. There was plenty more hiking to do, and many more castles to see, but we would not have returned if it weren't for the Gablerhof. And everything was just as perfect as it was before! As I said in the previous review, the room was perfect — comfortable bed, plenty of space, modern bathroom with great shower, a comfortable sitting area for the evening, a great big wardrobe to hang things, a lovely view over the lake and mountains from the balcony. Everything immaculately clean! And great attention to detail. For example, there were two sets of towels in the bathroom each set a different color, so you knew whose towels were whose. And two towel racks so everyone had a place to hang their towels. (Good luck finding that in another hotel! ) Loved the double sinks, so we each had our own. The Gablerhof is in a peaceful residential neighborhood just outside the town. Very quiet. Plenty of car parking for the hotel. A nice little church nearby for a pleasant evening walk. A 5-minute drive into the town for dinner. About a half-hour drive to Berchtesgaden area and wonderful hiking! Our hosts, Heidi and Georg, were delightful as before — very friendly and helpful and efficient with everything. The breakfasts are amazing! Georg is more behind the scenes doing cooking and baking. Along with all of the other breakfast items on the buffet, Georg bakes a fresh homemade cake every day. My husband and I fell in love with his erdbeer kuchen (fresh strawberries atop a short-bread-type cake) and his rhubarb cake topped with meringue. And as before, the buffet is full of excellent choices. If you want to be healthy, there is always fresh fruit and fresh vegetables, yogurt, muesli-type stuff like nuts and dried fruit, cereals, whole-grain breads, fruit jams, and some type of fish. Or, if you just want deliciousness, there are always eggs and breakfast meats, fresh croissants, sliced lunchmeats/salami/ham and cheeses. And the cakes! Heidi is amazing. She runs around clearing tables and replenishing the buffet, all the while smiling, asking people if everything is ok, answering questions about sightseeing and hiking, and conversing with guests in a variety of languages. And her delightful humor started our day with a smile! I can't even believe we're saying this, but it looks like we will be returning year after next!
