Short story:
This is brilliant, stay at the guesthouse and go on the overnight husky tour. Long story:
I own a cafe/restaurant and of course I pay special attention to the meals and service given everywhere I go. … We made the reservation almost a year in advance and also made some changes, which was no problem at all. Super busy during peak season Christmas/New year. Food
Pre ordered (vegetarian) 2 course dinner is 21€ and we got veggie soup with lenses first night, veggie lasagna 2nd night. With desert and homemade berry juice. No coffee/tea. All good, basic, genuine homemade food. Served 18:00 (6pm) and it’s all over at 18:25. We joked it felt like we were being fed. It is a husky farm after all.
During the overnight tour we had lunch twice: same veggie soup as at the guesthouse but no lenses. The others got salmon and sausage in their soup, proteins. A bit worried it wasn’t enough calories/energy to take us through the ride: 5 hours in — 25C. In the end we were fine so it didn’t really matter, vegetarianism isn’t a big thing in Lapland, what to expect. Service
All super nice and proud people, not in a trained robot like way, but genuinely nice. The thing is, don’t come here and expect luxury and being spoiled. This is genuine, no bull. No well drilled “customer is always right”. This is: Come and enjoy how we live our lifes in Lapland. It’s rough (read — 25C), but very friendly, if you deserve friendly. Be prepared. We were not, no lunch at the guesthouse so we were starving at 18:00. Bring chocolate and salmiakki. And maybe a beer? No beer to be seen in 52 hours! Well, we did not ask either. The overnight husky tour (643€) was a great experience, the dogs amazing. Quite emotional to leave your team at the farm, they put so much heart and hard work in it just for you. Being a bit reserved at the start they love you on the second day. Freezing cold so dress up and don’t expect a coffee break every 30 minutes, more like a stop every 90 minute to check if you’re still alive, plus lunch made over open fire. Arriving at the house, I spent 90 minutes googling warmest socks, warmest underwear, etc. Imagine why. We were told we were the first Swedes doing the tour, in five years! Swedes are everywhere. But not here? Maybe we Swedes won’t go if we can’t get served by a trained waiter, drinking wine in expensive glasses with a white napkin on top of our knees. Food presented for Instagram snaps. This trip was sure a nice break from all that and we loved it. Also a nice break from childishness, political correctness and people afraid of speaking their mind. Finland (and Lapland in particular) is the shit. Go there!
