El Cafecito Hostel Cuenca Hostel

Awesome vegan and vegetarian food! I havent been able to find such good fresh and healthy food. They have awesome poke bowls and tasty cocktails. Cool area to hangout and the staff know plenty of travel tips for the city. Would recommend to anyone visiting Cuenca.

Great low key social setting, rooftop terrace/bar with beautiful view of Cuenca and sunset, Tony the owner is kind, interesting, and helpful and lives on site. Five course family style dinners ~730pm for 7.50usd.

We stayed here following crossing from Mancora (Peru) and was a truly excellent experience. The hostel is 15mins walk from the bus station but due to our inability to pack light we took a $2 cab and were dropped nearby. The room itself was large with a comfy bed and a private bathroom. The social area on the roof was a real stand out with a view of the city and the square, a really nice place to chill out and have a few beers. What really made the visit for me was the owner Tony who was very helpful with not only things to do around cuenca but as a bit of a professional traveller/ecuador and Columbia expert he helped us plan and get the most out of our remaining weeks in south America. We had some great conversations into the evening and although there weren't enough takers for the family meal we ordered takeaway and shared all together. Coming here has been a bit of a highlight of our trip and would recommend checking this place out for a night or few! :)

Tony will look after you! El Cafecito features spacious dorms, great views over Cuenca, and vegetarian family dinners of several courses which are delicious and filling. Location is great, right in the heart of Cuenca. Staying here is more akin to hanging out with a great crew of people for a few days than staying at a hostel… Do it!

Great staff! The whole first experience in Ecuador was totally worth it and familiar. It felt great and the staff was very helpful with info about the whole country.

We didn't eat there so not totally sure how to rate. Amazing views, great service, loved the drinks. Thank you again for the lovely night!

Best rooftop bar/view/sunsets in Cuenca.
Great conversation and random social nights/dinners etc with the very knowledgeable owner, Tony.
Perfect rooftop for socialising, relaxing, reading, meeting other guests, etc.
Situated in a slightly "different" region within Cuenca … with some extremely "historical" bits and pieces close by (just ask Tony for the details! ).
So, take a few steps away from the standard "tourist track" of Calle Larga in Cuenca, and kick back in Cafecito for an experience just that little bit different! :)

The hostal owner, Tony, is knowledgable about all things Cuenca and helps you plan out your days. He hosts 'family style dinners' everynight. The meals are quite healthy and the dining experienec is unique. The view from the roof combind with the architecture of the building is unbeatable. The blankets in the dorm are a bit thing and there is no soap or towels provided, but other than that, the hostel is cleanly and has a modern feel.

Brilliant food and service. Good Wi-Fi.

Great hostal with great atmosphere. Tony the manager is a great guy and is very knowledgeable. I've spent 6 days in a private room, it was very clean. And the shower in the private bathroom for the room was clean and the hot water worked great. All for $20 a night. Tony is also a great cook. The bar has a nice sunset cocktail for $3. And is located on the terrace with great views of the city. It's a pretty lovely place but it does get quiet around midnight. Good for getting undisturbed sleep. One word of advice is when you ring the buzzer to be let in give them some time since they have to go down 4 flights of stairs. The hostal is very secure, and you must use the buzzer to be let in the door that remains locked at all times. You can come and go as you please. This is my go to place when I am in town.

A bread like never tried it is highly recommended to visit at least if you plan to stay a week in this beautiful city, the food is at your fingertips available very very good.

One of the best views of Cuenca, the rooms are very nice and the food is very good and lots of info about the city and surroundings Tony the owner certainly a great person who contributed a lot on my trip.

Nice location and great rooftop cafe with a view but not great value. Breakfast is not included, beds are average and the "cafe" doesn't even have real coffee.

I stayed there in shared room for 10$ a night, but I was there alone :) They have great location, beautiful rooftop restaurant with great city view. The owner can tell you a lot about tourist attractions and will give lots of advice.

They MOVED! El Cafecito is now at Mariano Cueva 11-28 y Mariscal Lamar in Cuenca. Now they have an amazing Rooftop bar/restaurant with a great view of central cuenca and the Caja mountains.

Very bad. Pay 25 USD for a matrimonial room without TV and with bad Wifi reception. From the 6h00 am there is campanazos and you can't sleep. It's also under construction. Lousy experience.

Le Apodé "El Penecito" to this hostel. Very expensive (I paid $25 for one night) for the minimum quality of service it offers. The room in which I stayed: basic good, without TV and with a hard bed; The bathroom did have hot water, but there was no soap or shampoo, plus it was poorly built (with the sink outside the bathroom, in the room! ). On the other hand, breakfast is not included in the price of stay (and its cafeteria is expensive and poorly decorated). They have Wi-Fi, but the quality of service is very irregular and you have to be close to the cafeteria to be able to use it (it does not pick up the signal in the rooms). The staff that attends at least is friendly, yes, but not enough; Frankly the neighboring hostel (Amen of others around) is much better.
