We celebrated my parents anniversary at Hjorths. The starter we originally ordered was unavailable but Chef Peter apologised and offered us a lobster starter instead. What followed was one of the best dishes I ever had. The combination of ingredients as well as the different textures and plating was truly star like and something every gourmet temple in the world would be seriously proud of. Never was I happier that a dish I ordered was not available! We returned another two times during our stay in Denmark and each time the menu was excellent but especially the starters and the sauces were absolutely marvelous! Chef Peter not only matched our expectations but raised the bar to a whole other level. His personal touch and explanations of the dishes table side in English were also extremely appreciated. Our diners were even more elevated by the superb waiting staff. Especially Morten in the dining room made our experience at Hjorths not only fun and thoroughly enjoyable but something to remember. At our first dinner the bottle we wanted to order was out of stock but Hjorths wine list had plenty of good alternatives. At our second dinner at Hjorths Morten managed to secure a bottle of the wine we originally ordered and had it waiting for us. All of his recommendations were absolutely spot on and elevated the entire menu.
Waiter did not know what the 3 course menu contained. After ordering we were literally forgotten even though there were only 3 other couples left. After 2 hours the second course arrived. My wife ordered the panered fish. The fish was uneatable, it had just been thrown in a deep fat fryer and so soaked with fat. The 3 course meal was not worth the money. Stomach irritations still two days after. After waiting two hours for the main course, dessert was dumped on the table within minutes as the kitchen was closing. The dessert description was fine, but tasted of nothing but left over cherry sauce from Christmas. When we mentioned to the restaurant manager about the fish, he just said ill tell the kitchen. The hotel is nicely situated, but stay away from the restaurant… The breakfast was a poor excuse in every sense.
