A very pleasant place, friendly very welcoming with a beautiful decor and a very friendly staff. The food is very good. And in the center of San José. It has parking and its access is very easy. I recommend we spend awhile very entertaining of friends.

It is a great place, with a decoration very sober that transports us to a time of brilliant bygone. The attention is careful and the food is very rich.

Don Carlos is a lovely place to stay. The hotel has so much charm. The staff is very kind and professional. They also speak English very well. The rooms are lovely, the beds are comfortable and the restaurant has delicious food.

This hotel was on a busy street in a busy vehicle area. Didn't feel comfortable walking around. The hotel had theft warnings everywhere and there were police that kept coming in and out. The room was 1 single and one double, both very hard beds. No fridge. Hotel would be good for people who like eclectic style (I don't) and could use updating. Had large souvenir shop and restaurant had reasonable prices but way too large helpings. Mediocre quality.

Nice art display all around the house! Tasty breakfast! But the rooms were not so much the same, the bathroom had some odors and no AC.

We loved this location. The facility it's full of art every where. The details, the art, the scuptures, the fountain… it's gorgeous. The staff is super friendly and nice. They are very detail oriented. I gave them 4 stars due to them having no air conditioning on the rooms and the restrooms wheren't fully clean. However, we will be returning to this beautiful location.

Best boutique hotel in San Jose Costa Rica. Great staff. Great rates.

We stayed here our first night in Costa Rica. The staff were responsive and warm. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and were happy with both. The rooms were large and clean. A very small pool in the back courtyard was available for my kids to play in. Very interesting decor and had a gift shop and travel agency in the hotel.

I only stopped overnight but still got great friendly service, and helpful directions. A comfy bed but my shuttle keft before the complimentary breakfast even started. Other hotels have made special sandwich and fruit packs for early departures like mine.

Very good location in the city and the price was adequate. I have no major complaints, but I also wouldn't say this place stands out. The building is a beautiful colonial house, quite a lot bigger than I'd thought. Some rooms located on the lower floor though are quite noisy with people constantly standing / passing outside the window. Also the hotel team is working around and can be heard early in the day. It's not the best when you want to rest on your own schedule. The local gift shop is quite handy, selling most artefacts you've probably already seen in other shops. I haven't had lunch or dinner in the restaurant, but the breakfast was also only average. I guess a typical in-house restaurant.

The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. It has a rustic charm. If you're looking for something more modern than it's not for you. The location was great because it was semi-quiet in terms of traffic meaning a good night's rest, but it was also walking distance from shopping and parks and museums. You get a free welcome drink and I recommend trying the Guaro Sour as it's a local favorite and was very good. Breakfast was pretty good too and they were happy to accommodate me when I asked for scrambled eggs. They also kept my luggage after checkout so I could see the Butterfly Garden before going to the airport.

Beautiful hotel located in a great area of San Jose, CR. Easy walking distance to downtown, and the homes of the past are beautiful in this area!

Hotel with a beautiful stamp, beautiful paintings and very characteristic ceramics. The room is comfortable but the double bed is a bit hard. Good breakfast, the best rice with beans from my stay. Nice and courteous staff. We also had lunch at lunch and were very pleased.

This old-fashioned hotel alone is a trip to Costa Rica due to its decoration, numerous paintings and objects. The receptionist makes an effort to speak three words of French. The staff is a rider. You have to go through the different corridors and patios to reach the private parking, it is to do to discover that we are in an old house of a notable… Attention, our 2 rooms on the floor clean and very spacious seem to class superior to others. The interest of the hotel is located within walking distance of the city center of the shops of the museums of the citadel. Of course do not seek to compare with the European hotel standard, we are in Costa Rica… Breakfast in the form of a hearty buffet and decent restaurant. That deserves a good grade.

Very pretty hotel with great flair and a good restaurant. Location good for fuss explorations and purchases.
Breakfast is not very imaginative, but with very good coffee.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are rustic, furniture is a bit old, have everything you need.

The food is delicious and the attention very special, I have not had the opportunity to stay at this place, but I recommend you take a walk around the restaurant that is open to the general public, cozy and perfect to go with a group of friends and have a good time.

I love the service I feel at home, everyone who works there are super helpful and friendly; the rooms are accurate if you are in search of a real break. In terms of the menu options, I like it very much for what you give options of international cuisine and also typical national. I love super recommended this hotel.

Beautiful hotel, every object has a story to tell. Comfortable room, good service. Recommended to the gift shop, sells objects that are very beautiful for a fair price. A little less than the height of the restaurant, but perhaps he has played the fact that we got to places where we ate freshly caught fish!

Good service and location. Helped in Booking tours, and car rental. Rentals from the airport and through Expedia were a scam. Attached restaurant was good, with prices expected of an in house restaurant.

I've been traveling to Costa Rica for about 20 yrs… I've tried a variety of places to stay. No doubt, The Hotel Don Carlos is my all time favorite. Centrally located, it's easy to walk to el Central, parks, and other restaurants. The hotel has a great restaurant… offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. A well sorted gift shop and each staff member always goes the extra mile to accommodate your stay. The rich history and culture displayed along the well kept rooms enrich y. Our stay. Big rooms, comfy beds, desks, patios… it has everything!

The attention is excellent, however depending on the influx sometimes they last a lot in serving the order. The lunch menu is varied.

It's a little off the middle of town. Playful design with lots of water games. Room large but simple.

Lovely place to stay. Warm reception from helpful staff. Great breakfast and restaurant on site. Secure parking. As this was our first hotel after madness of NYC This was a fantastic introduction to Costa Rica.

We have not had the suprise suite but surprised we were still. Kakalake in the bathroom and no water in the shower.

Stuff is professional and efficient. However, the room was stink the moment I open the door and still 12 hour later. It has that unbearable musty old house smell. Opening the window would not solve the problem. The place need serious renovation. There is no hot water in the sink, though there is hot water in the shower. They do not allowed to bring in guests. They actually refer you to a place where you can rent a room for one hour. My friend was actually my dance partner who stayed in another hotel. Like any other hotel, restaurant and coffee shop they provide free internet; however, they actually block all access to porno sites. Seriouslly. Anyway, the smell make me sick so I will check out tomorrow morning. For the $79/night I can get a better deal somewhere else. Guarantee. Actually I will pay $100 for a better place if I have to. Stay away from this place. Zack.

A definite gateway to Costa Rica, these guys can arrange your entire vacation for you cheaper and easier then doing it yourself, from their hotel to others located around the many tours they offer.

We always spend our last 2 days here before returning to our lives in the US.
