After a 6 hour bus ride from San Jose, we arrived around 8pm to Casa Zen. We were so excited to be at a peaceful resort and couldn’t wait to have a good night sleep and start a fresh day here. However, we were woken up at 6am to the sound of construction. Upon questioning the manager, we were informed that this is to go on for atleast 3 months and he has no control over it. I suggested that if we’re going to be woken up at 6am every morning that we should atleast get coffee. His response was that coffee doesn’t start until 8am. Apparently we will be hearing this all day, even through our yoga sessions. Needless to say, if I wanted to be woken up by loud noises and hear them throughout the day I would have stayed in Philadelphia.

Great Hostel. Prince was top. Wenn forgot to show the voucher for the deposit of the towels and get the deposit back after 2 days!

Over all our stay here was great. Very friendly and helpful staff, yummy breakfast, awesome location, great value. We were there for 7 nights, on one of the “mini yoga retreats” they offer. However, on the last two nights the people staying in the room next to us off the yoga studio were blaring music so loud we could hear it clearly with ear plugs in. I left the room to use the washroom and saw a poor lady was in the yoga studio trying to practice and meditate while this was going on. Even though we were annoyed (Casa Zen is not advertised as a party hostel) we waited til 11pm (quiet time) to complain. The security guard did nothing and it went on well past midnight. We chose Casa Zen to avoid that type of experience you often expect from your average hostel.

Cheap prices, but the rooms and overall establishment lack cleanliness. Expect bugs and odd smells.

Nice place, really close to the beach, stores, supermarket and restautants. Yoga classes twice a day on their 2nd floor open balcony.

Super mellow, great rooms, goos breakfast and showers. Nice crowd. All the good stuff. Shame rumor has it the beach is not very safe at night for women as the walk from other places is so nice on the beach. The road is well lit but a bit dusty. All in all a very good option to explore This mega laid back beautiful beach town.

The best hostel ever. Not at all your typical party place but rather perfect for the traveler who is serious about R & R, surfing, yoga, or hammocks. Have seen multi generational families enjoy this place and the staff are consistent from year to year and hard working. It's awesome in every way if you are looking for the bliss of nature and connection and don't require the fussiness of a resort.

What a gem of a place! The location, the owners, the staff, the people that stayed at Casa Zen, the yoga classes and the teachers… everything was absolutely amazing! So difficult to leave this gorgeous place! Love to all at Casa Zen and thank you for making my stay so wonderful xxx.

Zen! The apartment up top by the yoga floor is super nice for two people!

The location of the hostel is good, 50m from the beach. It was decently clean, bathrooms no so much. Wifi only reaches the common areas, not the rooms. Staff was helpful. Price was on the high side for a private room without a private bathroom.

Special to take yoga classes.

Funky yoga retreat, serves a good breakfast, simple yet small. Architecture is Asian, Tree House, Staff is friendly, but with a snobbish attitude. Casa-Zen caters to the Yoga — esque, traveling tourist. If you are a Surfer the Vibe is not Pura Vida. Best take your money elsewhere with a better vibe. Personally I felt as if I wasn't welcome? kinda like gringos go home leave your cash and take your trash, you're ruining my perfect lifestyle. Security is an issue, no place for surfboard storage, everything must be in your Dorm room. Small lockable lockers in room the size of a small shoe box. Staff chastized me for wanting to move a hammock upstairs? Bicycle's for $8 bucks a day, I've seen better ones in the thrift store back in the states, but better than nothing. Other than yoga there's not much to do. On the main street but a hike to either Santa Teresa, proper or 20 minutes to Mal Pais.

Very good value for money. We're not in the hotel but rather in a hostel. I've even been stung a towel, cool and zen told you! Must not generalize stupid happening, there are dozens more friendly and smiling. The hostel is located a few meters from the beach on one side and restaurants and one supermarket on the other. Breakfast, Wi — Fi and relax area with nice garden as a bonus.
