Nice place but not nice attention. The lady that was there was kind of rude. And the kitchen is not open until 10am, while there are other hostels that you can cook breakfast for yourself, this is not one of them!

The location was perfect! And the breakfast was delicious! Somthing new every morning. The beds were pretty uncomfortable but the shower was warm and the water pressure was strong! Great experience.

Low review due to less-than-friendly Diego at front desk. The hotel itself had reasonable prices, and comfortable rooms with our private room including a dorm style 2-level bed, as well as the queen bed. Diego showed us little patience, with short answers to our questions. We tried to enquire about tours and our options to head to the cloud forest given that we were only staying there for one night. We later found out from other sources that there was the possibility of heading to the night forest on our own, with a public bus that afternoon. We had to ask for Wi-Fi, laundry services, bus options — all of which appeared to bother Diego.

Super buena onda q take care of you. It is in the right place to move x Monteverde.

We had a great stay — one of the nicer hostels of our trip so far (10 weeks and counting). The staff we great and very friendly — we mixed up the breakfast times and we still given something to eat. We arrived after getting married in Arenal and our room was decorated with balloons and love hearts and Yorle had left a bottle of wine for us. So thoughtful. The room was spacious and everything was very clean.

Absolutely no sloths. Small but nice and clean rooms and great location. Weird rules and not really friendly staffers.

Skip it. It’s expensive. And I felt like I was at summer camp being watched the whole time. They have SO many rules and fines. The staff is rude. Save your money and stay at hammock house for half the price and it’s a beautiful, warm hostel :) I was very unhappy with this place : (

We had a fantastic time! Breakfast was filling and Diego kept us laughing with his funny jokes (definitely funnier than mine). He recommended the night hike we took and we can’t stop thinking about it! We will definitely be stopping and or staying in the next time we’re in town! Pura Vida!

We chose it because it was favorable. If you are just to sleep there, completely sufficient. Rather unsuitable for longer stays.
Small rooms with double beds and communal sanitary and kitchen.

You should take a padlock with you to secure your belongings. Cabinets are available for this purpose.
Monteverde should not be left out, beautiful rainforest and many leisure activities.

5-Star Campsite with all the details all you need is a kitchen or barbecue area to be able to cook.

Not worth the price seriously… it was very clean by the way. I think you can find a better place cheaper for what it is.

Great atmosphere, location, Yorle (the host) has the answers to every question you might possibly have.

Awesome hostel to stay at in Monteverde. Spacious and sparkling clean rooms. Super friendly and helpful bilingual staff. Great showers and fast Wi-Fi. Highly recommend staying here.

Great place to share with family, good prices for nationals, super recommended great attention.

I stayed one night in this hotel, and it was probably the less comfortable of my trip. My room was tiny with three beds, no fans, not very clean and a scorpion was hidden in the bed and bit my friend. I know we were not lucky on this one but it says long on the quality of the hotel. The kitchen and public space are cool though.

My friends and I only stayed her for one night but had a very positive experience. We arrived in Santa Elena at about 11pm that night, and the front desk of another hostel we had already booked was already closed. We weren't able to find any hostels that were open and were worrying we would have to sleep in the car. We stopped and asked someone if there were any places to stay that would be open. She led us to this hostel where she woke up the manager and he checked us in. We were incredibly grateful for his hospitality, not to mention the room was clean and a simple breakfast of cereal, toast and coffee was even provided.

Hot water and Yorle was helpful.

The rate was great when we booked, but it turned out our cooking didn't include breakfast — despite a lot of language to the contrary. The room was a good size but perpetually damp and rich with traffic noises. There are loads of cheap hostels in Monte Verde, find one farther off the street if you are planning on sleeping. The staff was really friendly and helpful.

Comfy place, helpful staff, exc location, and absolutely delicious breakfast. Great value for the money. 100% recommended.

After living in Costa Rica for 5 months and backpacking my last 2 weeks, I can without a doubt say that Sloth Backpackers was easily the best hostel my friend and I stayed at. When we arrived we were greeted by Yorle who offered pertinent information about Monteverde, (banks, bus station, super markets, and all the best and most economic activities) as well as free tea and fresh coffee! Sloth also lives up to its name — we were able to see a 2-toed sloth right outside the hostel on our very first night there! Monteverde and Santa Elena are beautiful places to visit, but what really made the experience was staying in a place where we felt at home. Clean space, free Wi-Fi, free and delicious breakfast, hot showers, and friendly staff. This would be a great place for anyone to stay, young or old, solo or part of a group. I promise you will feel as though you are at home away from home! :).
