They will live a unique experience in the place from the attention of the staff who are very attentive and helpful to the facilities, a place overlooking the mountain and part of the Gulf, the rooms are spacious, the hotel has GYM, Spa, swimming pool, tour inside the canopy hotel and night walks.
I recommend them 100%, you will have an excellent holiday.

Outstanding hotel. Rooms were nice and had amazing views. Lots to do here. Went on a night hike. They also have zip lining. Staff is extremely friendly.

We have loved our stay here! Beautiful grounds and wonderful staff that make great recommendations for things to do in the area and are quite willing to set you up. They have a night time wildlife tour avaiable on the grounds to book and Donner, our guide, was great! If you are coming to Monteverde I would definitely recommend El Establo 👍

This hotel is on the side of a mountain, which offer great views but as a minimum you need to be able to get in and out of their courtesy vans which take you up and down the steep roads. The rooms are tired and need a refurb — in ours, one wooden bed frame was broken and the shower door long since broken off and gone. The pictures on this review are no longer accurate one of the open air swimming pools has been filled in and perhaps my picture is its replacement. Breakfast (included) was good but as a restaurant, as with many hotels, the food was over priced. It's not too far from the local town but the steep terrain makes for a strenuous walk too and fro'.

If you have a room at the top of the resort, good lick getting to breakfast at the bottom before 9:30. Restaurants have great service and decent food. The hotel is around 2 km from downtown where a lot of other restaurants are. The rooms are good, but there is nor microwave. Overall pretty good resort.

Rooms need some serious updating and it didn't feel very clean. The bathrooms had windows open to the hallways and the whole place echoed, meaning everyone including my new husband could hear every detail of my bowel movements. Because of this we could also hear all our neighbors and we felt like we needed to whisper when we were in our rooms. Not very intimate feeling or romantic. We really got shafted on our room, we ended up in the bottom block on the ground floor with a walking trail in front of our window and still had to pay the normal price. We didn't feel like the hotel staff was very helpful at all, apparently there was a shuttle and I didn't know about it. I understand that we are in a rain forest essentially, but there was nothing stopping giant bugs from getting into our room. Huge gaps under the door. We wish there was a screen so we could enjoy the outside without getting bitten by mosquitoes. It is also quite the long and exhausting walk to town to get food. All in all, not great.

My friend and I stopped here without a reservation and were able to get an amazing room. Jason at the front desk was so helpful and the restaurant served a wonderful dinner, as well the complementary breakfast was lovely. Amazing service through and through.

The room in the 700 block was comfortable, and the bathroom was especially nice, as was the morning view of the Pacific and Nicoya Peninsula. (In the rainy season, the afternoons are too cloudy to provide a view. The restaurant breakfast was the best we have seen in Costa Rica. The only challenge is the logistics: there are 9 room blocks, most far from the main restaurant. They provide a free shuttle, which is supposed to arrive within 5 minutes, but often took 15-30 minutes.

All very well less waiting for the vehicles to get down to reception We are late to a commitment because the transport takes 25 minutes. Great food along with pool room and Wi-Fi. Very comfortable but upgradeable.

We stayed as part of our honeymoon, and it’s been the worst place we stayed on the trip. My wife got a severe rope burn on one of the ‘in house’ canopy tours. While we understand accidents happen, this came down to a lack of professionalism/safety by one of the extremely relaxed staff members running the tour. When we returned to base the first aid was extremely weak, and the staff would not take it seriously. The first aid kit was locked in a different area of the resort who had forgotten to pass it on to reception, and we were made to feel very uncomfortable begging for someone to help us obtain it. In the end we went ourselves with an external tour provider with the key to self administer a treatment, which by our next stop had become infected due to a lack of appropriate supplies. We have since been getting it sorted with a better equipped and more caring hotel staff at our next stop. Positives: — very passionate nature guide running the night walk — nice grounds — shuttle service takes you around the grounds (a positive and a negative as some like to walk but it’s very hilly) Negatives: — unclean and dingey rooms — staff that don’t seem to care about helping guests (we were passed around quite a lot) — a 20min walk from the main town (there are other better hotels closer, and cheaper) — a restaurant where the food was overpriced, that also has a lot of insects — breakfast, despite being free in our package, was so basic we skipped it on day 2.

Nice room in general. No air conditioning. Door to outside is not sealed so bugs can get in. Good housekeeping, good facilities.

Very nice I'd actually say 3.5 stars. Breakfast is top notch 8 out of 10. The whole place is very unique. We were 700 meters up the mountain which means a shuttle was used on occasion just to get back to our room. The place seemed a bit pricey but overall very nice.

Reception could be improved but overall most of staff friendly and helpful. Had some issues due to weather while we were there but staff arrived quickly to help. We saw plenty of wildlife during our short stay too.

Nice hotel with pretty high views. Breakfast is really good. For me it wasn t five stars only due to the bad sound proofingof the rooms. Nevertheless it was a great experience!

Well kept hotel with an awesome view of the area. Keep in mind you have to use a shuttle to go from area to area. Our shower gel was missing but the breakfast was very good.

Pretty fancy place. Very well built. Unique design. No air conditioning but the place is so well designed that it is not needed. Restaurant is really good, but expensive. Great sunset views.

Damage impossible to have a drink in the evening and the Tyrolean is HS.

Nice mountain hotel. Do not forget to visit your restaurant! The seafood soup is highly recommended!

The hotel was lovely, the view was great. There was wildlife right outside our rooms. Breakfast was excellent and staff were helpful and courteous.

We were very cold here. Others loved it. It was clean. Too cold and dark for us for Costa Rica. Which is not a problem, just not why we came.

Unfortunately, the WLAN is extremely slow and hard to use. From the hotel's own night tour I would advise: with us the guide came too late, the tour was only an hour instead of two and there were hardly any animals to be seen in the hotel's forest.

Very original Hotel with a very nice natural environment. The animals go at their ease through the enclosure (squirrels, toucans, Capybaras…). The room was very nice and the breakfast was great.

Hotel huge stretch, without shuffle bus you run a wolf. Outlook is fantastic.

The rooms are good and there is much wildlife that you can see from the room. But eating there or taking a beer is outrageous. I recommend to go to a restaurant next door, especially the "tortilla's".

The hotel does not live up to the expectations. It has nice views and the setting is very nice. The maintenance of the rooms left a lot to be desired. The windows of the toilet overlook the hallways and are spoiled. The wall had some chips. We found cockroaches the two nights we stayed. The sink plug was broken and did not drain.

This place has great views from the room. Overlooking the city la fortuna. The place is neat and clean. Rooms are spacious. The staff can use some English speaking training but it's ok to get by. The hotel restaurant has breakfast with typical average food. They have shuttle service from room to reception or spa or wherever you want to go so make sure to call in advance and have some time on you hand. It's really 4 star hotel with 3 star service.

We loved our room although we did upgrade to one of the honeymoon suites and enjoyed the spa bath. Spectacular views. Friendly staff.

I liked the location of the hotel and the staff was very friendly. We were in the upper part of the enclosure and we had a wonderful view all nature. They have a bus (for whom there is a lot of slope) you only have to call reception when you are ready to go down or vice versa and they are waiting for you. Very helpful.

This was our favorite stay in Costa Rica. Modern rooms, amazing views, nice pool area, and friendly coati mundis visiting your patio looking for bananas. The restaurant was very overpriced, however. We’d recommend eating someplace else.

Deception compared to its reputation…

Nice old style place with a very large property and everything is very spread out. FYI there is no air conditioning or heat or ironing board or iron. Hotel has great views from Monteverde.

Only good thing about this hotel is that it has good view. None of the rooms have AC or fans which is the most basic thing hotel should have. I saw a lizard in my room. You will have to keep your back door open to get some cold breeze as it will get really hot inside the room without AC and fan. But that will attract lots of mosquitos inside and due to that I got mosquito bites all over. Rooms and surrounding ares have a very dime lights which makes things worse at night as it's impossible to go outside at night. Highly recommend stying at other hotel as this hotel is very overrated.

On the plus side: Room is nice. Breakfast ist great. Not so good: Pool and cocktail bar hours till 9 pm. Went at 6 pm, bar closed, very dim lights. You depend on the shuttle or your car to go anywhere. From room to breakfast is about 1 k steep hill. No real lounge. No internet in the rooms.

Absolutely beautiful hotel with stunning views. I would recommend staying here to anyone. They also have a lot of great amenities and are close to many local attractions.

Amazing view and location, no AC and super thin walls. We came here with monkey tours and were blown away with the location. It was very nice with an awesome view from the mountain that you can see all the way to the ocean. You have to get shuttled around it is so large, but hiking around can be nice. I saw some wildlife on am early 5:30 hike which was cool. We could hear everything the people next to us did and said though and no AC could be rough on hot days. I suggest doing the night tour as it was great.

Good hotel on a beautiful reserve with some beautiful views and walks. Room very spacious with balcony and great views. Walking distance to town if you don't mind hills. Breakfast buffet is good. Some parts could do with some maintenance but it didn't impact on my stay and I'd still recommend staying.

Very spacious hotel complex located on a (steep) slope. Rooms are spread over various individual houses. From my room to the reception it was about 5 minutes downhill. But there is a shuttle service that you can call at any time.

Great location and large alpine style rooms. King beds on main floor and in loft. Looks nice too. Will definitely return. Pool is amazing.

Excellent place to enjoy nature and the country…

Nice hotel, not much character in the rooms, but the views are nice. The fleet of diesel minibuses ferrying guests up and down the hill (our room was half a mile from the reception) was welcome but you do wonder if it harms their eco-friendly persona.

Would have easily given 5 stars if it wasn't for the two cockroaches in our hotel room upon arrival. Not a big deal but reason enough to deduct one star. Other than that awesome facilities and amazing room with private terrace.

The power went out 3 times while we were in our room. The rooms are also dated, but check in was super smooth and the view facing the lake are awesome. Lastly the government needs to do something about the roads outside the town, man is it bumpy. The resident call the road into town "El Masage" the massage foe those who don't understand Spanish.

One of the most incredible hotels/resorts I have ever been too. Everything from the scenery to the quality of rooms exceeds expectations set by the pictures an reviews. The staff is incredible and so is the food. Make sure to take advantage of the Welcome Cocktail Hour, Happy Hours, the complimentary breakfast and the wine bar.

We were here on our honeymoon and the property is incredible. The views are unparalleled but the property seems a little dated and is almost too big. The walk up to the spa and restaurant are literally at the top of a mountain. Bar has two for one drinks which was a perk. The buffet at breakfast was always wonderful. Honeymoon suite is all in one room — meaning the toilet is connected to the living space, bed, and sink. There is no door which was a little weird but overall great experience.

This hotel is running a scam! We booked two nights at this hotel and the only road to the hotel was blocked! They did not inform us, nor could we reach them. We were stuck driving around in the dark for hours trying to find a place to stay. This hotel put us in a very dangerous situation.

El Establo Mountain Hotel is the best hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica. It has amazing views and lots of wildlife. The view of the mountains and lake are superb and you can see so far. While staying there we took the night tour and saw lots of insects and frogs, but during the day walking around the hotel we saw armadillos, wide-nosed raccoons, and tons of beautiful birds. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are so comfortable, the whirlpool tub with Jacuzzi is relaxing after a long day of hiking. Each room has a great view the way the hotel is spaced out on the mountain. The trails through the forest are fun, but so is walking around the beautifully manicured property. However, if you don’t like walking that much, they do offer a shuttle service that was very quick in picking you up when you called. Both of the restaurants were delicious and have a great view. It has a wonderful breakfast that is included and the prices at lunch and dinner are very reasonable, the wait staff, especially Richard and Maria, were very attentive in remembering your likes and dislikes. I have to say as wonderful and gorgeous as this property is one of the best parts was defiantly the staff, especially Gustavo. He is the concierge; he was amazing at helping to arrange everything from tours to transportation when we left to go to Manuel Antonio. Gustavo even helped us to replace personal items that had been depleted during the trip, going above and beyond.

Great hotel, beautiful grounds, surprisingly good food at the hotel restaurant. No heat or air conditioning, but we didn't need either — nearly perfect daytime and nighttime temperatures (we were there in April). Room was reasonably nice and clean. Noisy when people would pass by in the hallway due to open vents and lack of soundproofing, but OK otherwise. The drive to get there was miserable, however — 2 hours on a very windy and VERY rocky mountain road. Or, as our driver put it: "free massage! ".
