Hostel Kinkaju Hostel

I stayed in the top room of this wonderful hostel. It was one of my all time favorite places to stay. Waking up to the howler monkeys, roosters and what seemed like a thousand birds singing was magical. This isn't a quiet place, bring ear plugs and a adventureous heart. But laying in bed in the tree tops of this lovely town, you don't want to sleep in. Would come back to Costa Rica just to stay here again. Refrigerator and fans in the room. Fans keeped it cool. The staff was people staying in the hostel and they were incredible. One of the absolute highlights of my month long journey. Thank you Mary and Hector. A truely unique hostel experience.

Very nice place. It's clean and comfy. It's far enough from the loud main street if you just want to stay in and sleep but close enough to walk everywhere.

The owners are really lovely, the place feels more like a home then a hostel. Easy to make friends as it's not too big.

A nice hostel located conveniently in town but far enough away from the parties. We stayed in a private double room which was located downstairs. We were a little worried about being so close to the kitchen but it was actually very quiet during the quiet hours. The rooms don't have AC but the fans are enough to keep things cool at night.

Great first time Hostel experience. Great service, clean, met new friends. Its just what you need to spend the most of your time exploring.

Good hostel. A little costly.

First of all… we planned on only staying at this hostel for two nights so we could bounce around and try different ones, but we loved it so much, we stayed our entire trip there. Chelo and Geordie run the place and they make you feel like home from the moment you walk into the door. In fact, we hung out with them and their son each night instead of going out — they truly felt like family. We taught them english and they taught us spanish. It was so much fun. They were also …great tour guides… we told them our plans for the day and they would guide us in the right direction to ensure we got the best deals in town. They are very knowledgable of the area and surrounding areas. It was our first time traveling there and their knowledge made it much easier on us. The hostel itself is in a great location, we stayed in both private rooms, which meant we had a lock to our room and at night, they locked the front door and the gate to the hostel… very very safe! The beds were great, sheets and towels were clean. If you needed to, you can store food in the fridge, cook food, even watch TV if you wanted. They have clothes lines out front that you can hang your clothes on to dry — also, for $6, they will even do a load of laundry for you! We loved it there and miss Chelo and the family already :D Highly highly recommend this place!

Awesome hostel & people. Very clean and had the nicest shower out of all the hostels I stayed at in Costa Rica! It's a bit out of the way compared to the other hostels but since Puerto Viejo is relatively small, that means an inconvenience of walking like two extra blocks. Not a big deal at all. Highly recommended.
