We hesitate to write about this place for fear of spoiling it. This is a once in lifetime experience. How often do you get to stay in a small village steps away from the Li River in a renovated 150 year old traditional Chinese home hosted by some of the kindest, friendliest and most sincere people you will ever meet? Nestled in the middle of the Karst mountain range, surrounded by farmers and their fields, the Li River a few feet from the doorstep. Home cooked meals, real people with all the connections and comforts of home. What Marteen and the village have created here is a true wonder.
Our 4 nights at Lao Jia, in Lang Shi village on the Li river were very special, the house is beautiful and in a wonderful location. The arrangements for getting there went smoothly, and Haibo made sure we had everything we needed. We walked up the hillside with Haibo 's mum, gathering wild leaves as we went, had a trip with the lady van driver to the Seven Seas tea plantation which was very picturesque, and spent an enjoyable afternoon at Yang Di at the farmer's market and people watching. Walking along the river, to and from the ferry, past the orange trees and market gardens was also a treat. Would recommend to all as a rare chance to get away from it all in China.

For people who look for a quite stay outside of the crowds and want to experience the rural Chinese live in a real Chinese atmosphere.
Normally this house is to share with another couple, but Alice gave us the possibility to book the house for us alone with an extra cost, after contacting her via telephone. This made our staying really comfortable and exactly the holiday feeling we were looking for. Everybody took care very good of us, excellent fresh breakfast, home made tofu, Ayi cooked everyday fresh vegetarian food for lunch and dinner if we requested.
Really good organization for the ferry transfers, including the days we went to xingping walking (2 ferry transfers needed) and the day we went to the light show.
The excursion to the caves and to the mountain behind the house is better to do it with a local, alone is a bit difficult.
