Newer hotel in Guilin. Palatial French decor inside. Good size room. Clean but my room has cigarette smell even though it is a non-smoking room.

The hotel is newly renovated but their are many downsides to the rooms that ultimately create a negative experience with the overall stay. At check in be sure to have a English speaking translator as majority of the staff do not speak any English, and the few who do can barely understand what you are saying. The rooms are also very new and decorated with velvet, but have a strong odors of smoke which make the entire stay unpleasant even after requesting non smoking rooms it was apparent that all the rooms have been smoked in. Also another major problem is the sound of the air conditioning unit that runs constantly leaving you with a loud lawn mover sound all through the night which you have no control over. From the outside this hotel may seem very beautiful and upscale but their are many downfalls that leave you with a overall negative experience. Also the hotel lists being close to the city center, you are quite far and have to travel 15-20 minutes to reach the downtown area where you can find shopping and restaurants. Also make sure you have a translation app to show taxi drivers, as none of them can speak in English. Their is a another American brand name hotel closer to the city which may be a better option. Overall I would not recommend this hotel.
