Work Conditions Must Be Improved for Volunteer Exchange 1) Safety: The hostel does very little to screen volunteers before entry. They do not request an interview, background check or information of any kind from volunteers. The property is not well locked and the valuables are not well stowed. Despite these problems resulting in the hostel being robbed, the host refused to change them, when requested. 2) Living: Volunteer bunk bed has divets, bathroom door lacks doorknob, … shower unusable (picture below). Volunteers are expected to shower in guest showers and scrub & mop afterward. Host has refused to maintain it despite requests. 3) Management: There is no full-time manager at the hostel (or any nighttime staff). Additionally, training materials do not sufficiently prepare workers for reception. This lack of organizational structure causes workers to work outside of their shift to compensate for lack of management. Overall, the work they ask of volunteers is fair and the environment is welcoming. Working at the hostel can teach you many valuable professional skills. Just be aware of these conditions prior to applying to make sure your standards for safety, living, and professional conditions align with these.

Valpo is crazy, so it's important to be able to relax somewhere quiet after walking around or partying. Well, this place is : just spend some time chilling in the garden or by the fire place. The 10 beds dorm is nice & big, there's space for everyone's stuff, lockers… Nothing to say about the kitchen, the Internet works perfectly! The lacation is really convenient. It's very cheap but clean! And the bunch of volunteers working right now are cool (Aurélie, Marlen & the couple from Brasil to name them), they are really caring & will make sure you have a good time! Thanks guys for the pancakes recipe, it just changes my life!

Very Nice view close by and good breakfast included, we were treated in the best way.

A lot of noise, the neighbors complain.

Its an old building which is not their fault, but it means it is cold. The room looked out on to the street & with no net curtains, people could see in — not very private. One toilet which had no toilet roll & one shower in our room and the girl who was volunteering left the door to the toilet open and the door to the room which opened into the communal room open early in the morning when everyone was trying to sleep : (The communal room was cold, dark & unwelcoming but had some games you could play. We weren't shown around, just shown to our beds & the volunteers that we met did not seem happy. I was even snapped at by the manager? The garden was pretty, but was walled in so no views. Very noisy street outside too. This hostel should be cheaper for what it is as there's much better hostels around even if you're just stopping over.

Very nice, quaint, clean and tidy, includes breakfast. Economic.

The best hostel! Very good service, with comfortable beds, rich breakfast and a beautiful courtyard. The staff is very helpful and there is an excellent atmosphere.

The rooms are standard but the interior courtyard with the charm of the city. The staff is very friendly.

Don't forget to have your map of Valparaiso circled so you know where you can avoid being mugged and murdered. The only downside to the location of this wonderful Hostel is the winding steps to and fro. You shouldn't use them at night & even in the mornings you will see someone passed out (& mugged? ), still drunk and singing, or them used as a hangout for types who like to drink & smoke in the social hour's of the morning. My partner was wanting to walk the extremely long way around to avoid them but it was safe enough that time, when it was the day time.

Beautiful house, rooms, kitchen, patio and bathrooms quite nice. Though it gets cold at night, there was a heater in the room at first but later there wasn't. The mattresses could be better. Livingroom got cramped at times. It was very clean, breakfast was nice, great staff and comfortable vibe. A easy 20 min Walk from bus station (who says otherwise might just be lazy) and close to the cerros/markets etc.

Excellent hostel!. I stayed nine days and I only have words of thanks for the incredible experience I had. The place and staff are great. Always well prepared to solve any doubt or inconvenience. Definitely THE place to stay in Valpo. I hope to be back soon, we already miss you.
