A convenient business hotel in downtown Nanaimo with great ocean views, friendly service and a nice restaurant/bar by the lobby. The rooms are clean and spacious. The parking is at a city parking garage a block away, was tricky to find at first. There is elevator access from the hotel to the parking lot.

Was a nice atmosphere would definitely go back.

I booked the standard room for the long weekend — and at first glance everything seemed great. Check-in was hassle free and friendly — but the room itself, was pretty bare bones. Decent view for sure, but other and that we got a basic chair — while all the other coast standards had comfy seating with armrests. It was as if they threw in our chair at the last minute to complete the decor. There was no drinking water (they don't provide bottled water) which means the water you do drink has to come from the bathroom tap or paid for from a vending machine. TV was not a smart TV. Small gripe I know but really, even budget hotels now have drinking water and smart TVs. None of these were deal breakers — however, the spots of blood on the bedding were. The lady who did housekeeping on the day was very kind and replaced the bedding BUT — the replacement bedding also had blood spots, bigger this time. This really was unacceptable for ANY hotel much less one that includes in their description that they take their cleaning seriously. There was also a squashed Nanaimo bar underneath the bed… and while I appreciate the local flavour, this was not how I wanted to encounter it. All in all, in my opinion, this hotel does not deserve its reputation.

Poor service, I am staying at the coast bastion hotel and needed a drink, I spent half hr running floor to floor trying to find a vending machine, found 2 out of 15 floors, neither had anything I'm them, went to lobby and was told I would have to go out to a grocery store if I wanted a drink, really is this how you treat your costumers, wow that's all I got wow, shittiest service ever in my 60 years.

Great view of the harbour. Extremely clean and all Covid protocols are in place. Updated room and bathroom. Excellent check in. Friendly professional staff. Can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since we’ve stayed here.

Clean, comfortable rooms with quality mattresses, nicely furnished, lovely bathrooms and an excellent supply of decent quality soap, shampoo & conditioner. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a very well run and pleasant place nicely located next to a variety of local eateries and shops.

Good hotel except that the parking is neither free nor secure. We had our truck broken into after paying $9 at the desk for overnight parking in the city lot next door. The room was spacious, comfortable and well-equipped (sitting area, fridge, AC etc. ) but the $1, 000 loss kinda overshadowed that!

Our food and drinks were wonderful. Dessert especially. Service was prompt and friendly. We were all meeting before a wedding. Couldn't have picked a nicer spot.

Hotel is absolutely astonishing! Rooms are immaculate and kept in top notch condition. Bathroom and shower are just spotless. If you going to stay in this hotel, try to stay on tenths floor or higher and enjoy the spectacular view on harbor! Hotel is priced above average (especially in the summer) but you get what you pay for. I highly recommend this hotel.

It is a nice decent hotel on the island. If you are going to stay in Nanaimo, I recommend you to stay here. The washroom is really big and modern. Bedding sheet and towels are clean. The only thing is the hair dryer. We had to change it twice, because it does not work so easily. I think the wire inside the hair dryer burned. I recommend you to bring your own hair dryer especially you have long hair.

Room was really nice, staff were great. There was a terrible smell of mold when coming in from the parking floor. It appeared as though the entrance was under maintenance but there was no one there not an attempt to get rid of the smell. Otherwise I often stay at this hotel for the view and the comfort of the rooms.

We had our Christmas party here, it was alot of fun and the staff was really nice. The food was also amazing! The roast beef and mashed potatoes are a must have.

The room was wonderful and meet the needs for my mother who needed a handicap room with shower bench. Plenty of rails for safety. Staff was so pleasant. Room service meal was well worth it. Would recommend this place to eveyone.

Great location. Easy access from Harbour Airport. Lots of shops and restaurants just up around the corner. The bathroom is very nicely outfitted. I like the soap products. Only real challenge is the check in process. If the room isn't ready they won't check you in then alert you when the room is ready. That should be addressed.

Staff was really helpful. The parking is ridiculous but someone walked me to a shortcut… next time I’ll know it’s public parking (quite the walk… drop your bags, register THEN park). Room was clean (really clean), nice view, no pool. :/

The only reason for 4 stars not 5 is two fold. The elevators which is temporary. And ice machines. Kinda nice to have one on your floor. The service was Awsome. In fact when, in the middle of the night I needed a orange juice, it was at my door in under 5 minutes. They also made sure at every opportunity, to make sure we were completely satisfied. This is a miss in many large hotels. Thanks so much!

Lots of different sized conference rooms. Stayed overnight once and it was a very nice room. Clean and relaxing. Only one elevator working makes it a bit longer to move between floors. Also they are changing their Wi-Fi so it wasn't working properly in my phone. The attached restaurant was nice but a bit pricey. Go to one of the several down town restaurants within walking distance instead. Great view of the water too!

Jacuzzi room with a view was amazing. So glad we stayed here. Rave to supporting bees on the roof! Great place friendly people havent eaten here yet but its on the list!

Decent room, decent views of the marina, other views overlooking the grey downtown. Dining experience was great. Good food, good service. Great view of marina and close to Port theatre. Calamari was only negative of whole experience. :)

Stayed here for one night in a king room with a jacuzzi 15th floor, with great staff and a clean large room and the tub we had a perfect night. It was downtown and close to some good stores. Nice area. I would go back in a heartbeat. Was a great place and the staff were great so was Derek the vallet. Thank you! A+

They place was packed. You had UVic students there. People like myself there for the Nelly concert @ Queens. My truck is too big to go underground parking. They did however have more parking a few blocks away. My major disappointment was they only had one elevator working with all these people staying there. Apparently I was told it hasn't worked in some time. But they put up a BS sign saying there monitoring elevator usage to cover up the broken elevator.

A great place to stay. Good clean rooms and staff that take good care of you. Pet friendly.

I recently attended a training module for Canadian Tire located at the Coast Bastion hotel. The venue was great the room had a great view overlooking the water. When the sun hit the room it got a little toasty but the AC made it quite comfortable. The hotel provided a buffet with a wide assortment of food ranging from fruit trays to pita and hummus. The service was also excellent and I hope CT continues to use this venue.

We stayed here twice. Wonderful location with plenty to see and do within a comfortable walk. The rooms are very nice with pleasant views. Service was uneven, but always adequate. The restaurant looks good, but we had other plans and did not get to eat there. Coupons are provided at check in.

Better than I expected, it is in an older building but they've done very well to keep it up. The little things like pump bottles of soap in the shower, the style of coffee maker in the room, and the attention to detail when cleaning are appreciated. I've gotten used to scratchy robes, towels and linens that are just slightly past the point where I'd throw them away, but I didn't find that here — thanks for the great night!

Nice clean room… pre-checked in. Great happy hour specials in the restaurant. Super location. Friendly staff. No complaints.

Stayed here courtesy of my company for a Christmas Staff party that was held in the banquet hall. Good food. Room was nice and big. TV selection was nice. View was pretty good. Cozy room overall and big nice looking bathroom with a decent sized tub, also had a foyer in our room with a weird modern art statue shown in the picture I uploaded. Overall I would stay here again.

The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect! The hotel was super clean, very friendly and accommadating staff. Our room was beautiful and of course my favorite, the bathroom. The lights and mirrors were amazing to ready in.

Nice hotel, very centrally located. Near to Commercial street which is a hub of trendy eateries and eclectic stores. Also close to the Main Nanaimo Theatre and library and a 5 minute walk to the Casino and a small shopping centre. We also had a beautiful view of the Nanaimo Harbour. We arrived with our dog that was just released from the local emergency vet after a life threatening issue and the front desk staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. There is a small grassy area within a minutes walk of the hotel and a lovely park about a ten minute walk along a nice walkway next to the Marina. We did order room service and the food was good and delivered promptly. For eateries close by, we would recommend the Thai restaurant that is to be found on Commercial Street about a 4 minute walk from the hotel.

A great place to stay for business and pleasure. It is centrally located at Nanaimo Harbour. Convenient for to-and-from BC ferries and Harbour Air seaplanes. The rooms with harbour view are fantastic looking out to the Strait of Georgia and Harbourfront Walkway — great for short or long stroll as you desire. The room is above average cleanliness and comfort, well-equipped with modern necessities. There are quite a few good restaurants near by. There is underground parking assigned to the hotel. The hotel staff are efficient and helpful. There is only one precaution. There are homeless people wandering around the hotel asking for money or acting strange. Be aware and be careful when walking by yourself at night.

Had a business meeting at the Coast Bastion. The room was clean bright with an amazing view of the harbor. Coffee and water were provided and I have to say the coffee tasted amazing!

A decent place to stay in Nanaimo. Right on the water with easy access to all of historic downtown. No dedicated hotel parking which was an issue for us because there was no public parking left in the closest parkade. Room was good, beds were comfy, water pressure was okay. Place was clean.

We stayed at Coast Bastion Hotel thanksgiving long weekend and were very impressed. The staff are very pleasant and service was excellent. Very clean and comfortable and would highly recommend this hotel! A special thanks to Irene, who made the weekend very special! Job well done!

Been at a several day conference. This hotel is to of the best hotel. They offer great support for our conference. Clean and bring pretty. Fantastic location. A 10 min walk during breaks is a fantastic change to a seawall experience that clears put your head. Amazing in all aspects. A+

Great hotel, my room was on the 10th floor and had a stellar view. Room was bright and spacious and the turn down service was on point. I also like that they had an option to not have your linens freshened constantly because that can get wasteful. Wi-Fi with the room was actually pretty good, phone had no issues but laptop really struggled sometimes.

Nice hotel, really central location and good views of the harbour. Lots to do and now very amenities with a gym in the basement. Solid hotel.

Great friendly staff! Clean rooms! Comfortable beds and great experience overall. Easy check-in. The only thing that made this a 4-star experience was that the Wi-Fi was absolutely terrible for some reason… couldn't connect for a lot of the times and when I could, it was very slow!

We had our wedding at The Coast Bastion this past weekend and it was absolutely perfect. All of the planning that occurred before the wedding was so easy with the staff and we always has a line of communication. They answered all of our questions, allowed us to set up the hall early (taking away a lot of stress), took care of our family members, and went above and beyond when it came to the day of! The Buffett food was never empty and always hot (and it was absolutely AMAZING food! ), the desert table was beautiful, and everything went so smoothly thanks to the staff! Thanks again to Dave and Skye for answering all my questions, providing recommendations, and overall making this process so smooth for us!

We had our wedding reception here. I don't know what her name was but she really went out of her way to make sure that the night was a good one. Overall it's been excellent and would love to do more things here again.

We went for the night of our wedding and we had such an amazing night and really enjoyed the jacuzzi and view from the 15th floor! I even forgot something at the hotel that meant a lot to me and they found it and saved it for me. Great service thank you so much!

Beauty room with gorgeous room; arrived late Saturday night and if you have a truck to high for their underground parking you have to walk 2 blocks past 2 very busy nightclubs. A little bit scary when you're alone. Not very convenient.

Downtown Nanaimo, room was clean and spacious with a jacuzzi tub that has a wonderful view. Staff were gracious and helpful. Gym was good.

Central location right in the heart of Nanaimo. Clean and modern rooms with city, harbour or city/harbour views. Right next to the BC Ferry terminal to Galiano Island. 2 min walk to the sea-wall, harbour, or downtown shops. Quiet hotel, even when busy with June Proms. I had no fridge in my room, so had to do the old school ice bucket run. But, other than that, good room service and restaurant has fresh fare.

The Coast Bastion is a "must do" if you are looking for clean, comfortable accommodations with an AMAZING view of the harbor and the city of Nanaimo (as long as you are on the third floor or higher). The staff are friendly, courteous, helpful and the on-site catering facilities are top notch!

Very clean room with excellent view. Parking in the neighboring parkade was a bit of a pain, but breakfast in the restaurant was more than good enough to make up for that.

Attentive and friendly staff. Hotel is right on the water and has a nice lounge and restaurant. Clean and comfortable rooms. Also, had issue with our heating and manager rectified it right away. Nice stay!

Just had my daughter's wedding and the reception was being held at the Coast Bastion. Due to the change in weather in our lovely city we had to make a quick decision as her ceremony was to take place outdoors. The staff at the Coast Bastion allowed us to have the ceremony in the reception area, moved all of the chairs to accommodate our guests, called in staff early to facilitate the guests going to Minnows for drinks and appy's between the ceremony and reception while we changed all of the chairs back the the tables. I can't say enough how amazing they were, the staff treated my daughter and her husband like royalty. They helped me during a time when the stress level was on overload. The food was fabulous, the rooms were spotless with beautiful views and our guests couldn't say enough on how well they were treated. Long story short. Spoke to one person about booking an event room for a wedding reception was told outside catering was possible and was given a suite as a gift to the upcoming newly weds. Spoke to another person and was told nothing was recorded, outside catering was NOT possible, the room was not booked nor was did it come with a free room for the newly weds, and the cost of the event room was quoted higher than previously agreed. Emails were initially exchanged but they made the mistake of typing my email wrong. But it was not the first time they have emailed me. This experience made a HUGE bump in my wedding planning. I had to change EVERYTHING last minute. The initial I spoke with went on vacation, without leaving any information about the event to the other personnel at the Coast, this person even informed me that they were on the beach and on vacation. (Unprofessional) No fair compensation was offered. Utter disappointment for a hotel that is well-known. My wedding is 3 weeks away. Worst customer service and worst hotel experience.

Great location, parking extra. Nice clean room, except some sloppiness on the cleaners who forgot to pick up 'romance' related garbage from previous guests! Luckily I noticed it and did not have to explain to my 11 years daughter what that was :) Not acceptable! I am sure most people would have been outraged about this. Should have had fridge in the room, but did not!? Friendly staff at front desk regardless. Got to pay a little more attention to details for a place setting some high expectations! Great otherwise.

Best Wi-Fi ever. Good room. Good service. Can't complain. Pillows were better than most hotels as well.

If you are coming in from the float planes, take the stairs up into the parking garage and then walk across on the second floor to end up on the same street as the Coast Bastion. Hotel staff was friendly and they helped us easily upgrade our room. This is about the best option near the float harbor.

I was very happy with our dinner at the minnoz lounge. Gourmet food with a reasonable price.
