Review of Best Western Plus Montreal Downtown- Hotel Europa 3*

We stayed Friday 11/11 & Saturday 11/12 when we went up for a Habs game. When we arrived, we found out they had given us a queen room that was the size of a closet, when we had ordered a king. When I complained to the manager, he said that they must have been out of kings when we booked. I then asked why they wouldn't have told me that at the time I booked it. He was very rude, but switched rooms for us, at an extra charge, no problem. I asked him how much the taxes would be and he got upset. He said "Everybody has to pay tax on top of the room rate. " I said "no kidding, really? All I want to know is HOW MUCH ARE THE TAXES GOING TO BE? ". We had gone up to meet a group of about 100 other fans, so the place was packed. They had only 2 elevators that held about 5 people max, or 2 with a luggage cart. They were extremely slow, and one of them was out of service almost all weekend. (They didn't even notice this until I brought it to their attention. ) The restaurant staff was very rude, and acted like they were doing us a favor by serving us. Our HIO group booked the side room for our members so we could all eat breakfast together. We've been doing this for 5 years. When we arrived, one of the waitresses was reading a paper and having HER breakfsdt, and told us the room was for their employees. It took about 20 minutes for them to rudely get it straightened out. We have stayed here 2 other times for group outings, and things were much better. BTW, 2 years ago they also had one of the 2 elevators out of service. As long as the current manager & staff remain, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.
