Got there, tired after a long journey, toilet was plugged, AC unit was rattling the entire time making it hard to sleep. No available rooms to switch with. The luggage trolley had a broken wheel, so steering heavy gear was difficult. Night manager Chester was quite gracious and apologetic and actually unplugged toilet himself. Continental buffet was generous and good value. Paid premium rates for average studio accommodations at a hotel in need of maintenance. Wouldn't stay there again.

This was a great downtown location, with a delicious breakfast, a good sized exercise room, and a kitchen in our room. The only downside was parking… not enough spaces for guests. The first night we had to park at a public lot, and lug our luggage uphill through construction to the hotel. Once we got a space in the hotel lot, it was great!

I loved this hotel. I had a full kitchen with a sink that even included a garburator and a dishwasher. The bed was firm but comfortable. What you often don't realize when booking is that they also occasionally offer additional treats like cookies and appetizers in the evening as a complimentary feature. I very much recommend this place for a night's stay.

I, with a bunch of people I work with have spent our summers in Halifax for years in different hotels. This past month I was here. This hotel has great staff and a great location. There was a burst water pipe that caused us to have no water. It took the city a while to fix (totally out of the hotel’s hands) and they were perfectly accommodating to everyone and even sent us to another hotel for the night so we would be comfortable. Their gym has some of the best equipment I’ve seen and the laundry room machines are really well maintained — they seem like they’re new. The rooms are really clean and well designed. The breakfast is good and I love their fresh croissants.

Dated hotel but super nice staff. Cookies at reception desk were delicious! Lots of noise from nearby pubs.

Breakfast is pretty basic, with most days, from what I've seen, being those heartless, frozen sausage patties. Our room is pretty fine, but on a Friday night we're too close to the party streets and while the winds provide fairly good sound reduction, they can't block it all.

Beautiful location and views. Rooms were spacious and quiet. Staff and amenities made it an easy trip!

Beautiful rooms in the heart of the entertainment district of Halifax rooms are a bit pricey but they done with a full kitchen.

Facility itself was nice but our room faced a really busy street with a bar playing music until 2am every morning. I don't think there would have been a room in that hotel where you couldn't hear the busy street to be honest. The staff was overall helpful and friendly. And the selection at the breakfasts was pretty good and consistent.

Clean, quiet stay. Breakfast was fresh and good variety. Underground parking a little expensive but what can you do downtown halifax. Front desk staff very helpful. Would stay there again.

Friendly staff, location great—close to everything. Stayed in the two bedroom suite, which is large and lots of room and windows. It is really inviting like a home away from home!

Huge room with full kitchen. Room and hotel in general is clean and well maintained. Pleasant staff. Decent free breakfast.

Hotel rooms were layed out nice with kitchenette. Staff was friendly and ready to help. Parking was a little cramped for lager vehicles. Neighboring bars got quite loud after dark. Breakfast was hot and plenty of variety. Overall wasn't bad but wasn't the best.

Very central locations, great for walking all over the city. Close to shopping/restaurants along Spring Garden and down along the (much more touristy) waterfront as well. Beautiful views of the waterways, ship traffic and sunrise if you get a room at the back side. Right now (October 2017) there's construction going on behind and around the hotel, so don't expect to sleep past 7:00 am Monday through Saturday. That being said, the windows are very effective at keeping out the normal traffic and late night shouty-groups-stumbling-home-from-the-local-bar noises. Staff was extremely friendly (it IS Canada), the 'store' was one of the best stocked I've ever seen in a Residence Inn, and the breakfast spread is pretty good. Bedding is very comfy, and the housekeeping staff very efficient and honors the 'no thank you' sign for making up the room. We'd definitely stay here again.

Decent staff and well maintained. However it is in dire need of modernization. Noisy… Windows are paper thin and you can hear conversations on the street. With luck you can get a "quiet" room but don't get one that faces the water. The quality of the breakfast and weekday evening meals has gone downhill. Definitely can't compete with other newer local suite hotels in that regard. The way I see this hotel is they'd better start making some real changes soon or else they will be losing a lot of business to hotel chains that have stayed current.

The couch was more comfortable than the bed and the couch wasn't that comfortable. At the end of the day, shouldn't a good night sleep for your guess be at the top of your hotel's list? I have stayed on side road motel beds that are way more comfortable than this hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed for the first time in this hotel (and the last time), the bed was literally 20cm lower from one side to the other, rolling on the bed was like rolling on a hill. The staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful, but there was really not much they could do about the crappy beds. One couple overheard us talking about our experience during breakfast and mentioned their room was exactly the same and that even though they had changed rooms once, the second room's bed was still very uncomfortable. We do NOT recommend this place, they charge way more than other hotels around the area and we feel they put their staff in a very awkward situation as they don't have control of the quality of the beds.

We always stay in this hotel for halcon because it is super convenient and they have free breakfast. They've very helpful and pleasant and the rooms are nice and big. We really enjoy having a full sized fridge and kitchen and it makes our weekend stay so much easier!

Wonderful staff and the room is very comfortable! Large and more like an apartment than a hotel room. The breakfast buffet will have me up early in the morning. Lots to choose from. Would definitely stay here again.

Everything was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Very good value and located in downtown Halifax close to where the action is.

Rooms are nice, staff friendly. Unfortunately, a lot of construction in the area right now (Sept 2017) causing noise and disruption. Lots of construction in the entire neighbourhood, actually. Also, my room was at the front — noisy bar across the street and very bright lights on hotel facade. Other rooms better.

Nice, clean rooms. Good layout. Close to many restaurants and shops. Parking not included was the biggest disappointment. After paying $359 plus tax a night (outrageous) being asked to pay extra for the hotel owned parking lot felt like they were reaching right into my wallet. We stayed three nights because more affordable hotels had no availability during Atlantic fest.

Perfectly acceptable Marriott property. Friend staff. Typical residence inn rooms. Easy access and below ground parking on two parking levels.

Spacious, clean rooms. Very friendly staff. Excellent downtown location and all you can eat breakfast. Enjoyed our stay.

This is the worst place in years. Noise, construction and our non-smoking room stunk of smoke. I could hardly breath and the air conditioning had to be reset continuously or else it continuously beeped. Stay away, there are so many better hotels in Halifax-this is a dive. p. S. They did give us a full refund, for the lack of sleep and problems.

Location of hotel was great. Our rooms weren't ready upon check-in and we were not compensated for having to wait in the lobby an extra hour while the house staff prepared our room. When we finally got a room it was in the basement! Breakfast was just ok. Front desk service was awesome though. They were extremely friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is a 5 min walk from the water front. The room was great it included it's own tiny kitchen and full sized fridge. This makes it the perfect spot to stay if you're planning on a long stay in Halifax. Underground parking is available which is vary convenient.

The complimentary breakfasts​ and evening treats were very good. My room was spacious and the bed luxurious! The staff were friendly and helpful. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others.

Nice facility close to all amenities. Rooms are large and clean and having the kitchen is fantastic.

Clean rooms, excellent staff and service. However I wish there was truely free high speed Wi-Fi. They throttle their free service so if you want streaming video or video conferencing you need to pay 5 bucks a day for their premium Wi-Fi.

The rooms were beautiful, and the breakfast was decent. Hotel service was also good. And the hotel was in a great location in downtown Halifax.

This hotel was perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful, location was great, beds were comfortable and rooms were quiet. I would definitely stay here again. I enjoyed it.

This was indeed the worst Residence Inn that I have ever stayed in. As a Platinum Elite member, I have stayed in quite a few hotels across North America and generally, I look for a Residence Inn. The Halifax RI left a lot to be desired. First, the parking situation — their underground parking is quite cramped. I understand their location, but this was a detractor from their rating. Secondly, I checked into this hotel for a 2 week stint. I made reservations a month beforehand. I got to my room at 7pm on a Sunday evening. I opened the door and smelled something immediately. After a quick look around, I found that housekeeping had failed to remove the 2 dirty diapers from the room that were left there from the previous guests. As well, I walked on the candy that was smooshed into the carpet from the previous guests. Not impressed. Food in the morning — the attendants were not on time for the first week. Breakfast was to be at 630. That does not mean that the attendants stroll into the building at 630. They only started showing up on time after I complained to the front desk. Sorry, but if I have to be out the door at 7 and there isn't any food until 650, that is a problem, especially when I book the RI because they are supposed to have breakfast ready at a decent hour. Also, the selection was subpar. THis hotel could really learn something from the other RIs across the country. The exact same menu day in and day out does not cut it.

This hotel is superior. The room was spacious, large kitchen with all the amenities, cutlery, toaster, tuperware, you name it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I had an alarm sounding through the night and when I asked them to look at it they provided an apology and nice gift basket. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Its close to Argyll street, where there is lots nightlife (restaurants and dancing) and only minutes walk from the waterfront.

I think a couple of the other reviews have mistaken this hotel, as they refer to it as the Courtyard Marriott. This one is in fact the Marriott Residence Inn. It can get confusing as there are three Marriott hotels in Halifax. Anyways, I have been coming here every month for over four years now and all I can say is their staff are beyond belief. They still manage to find ways to surprise me and excel even further with their customer service. Please note though that as this is a Residence Inn, it is not a hotel as most people may imagine. There is no dinning room, although breakfast is included free of charge, and there is no bar. Each room as at least a microwave and a couple of electric rings, some have full ovens. Please bear this in mind when booking this hotel. If you bear this in mind, I guarantee you will never come across more helpful staff in your life, and that goes all the way from the Manager, to the Front of House, to the cleaning staff, as well as the Maintenance staff. They are exceptional good with children.

I used to live in Halifax and have stayed in quite a few hotels in the area. This was my first trip to the Courtyard Marriott (I've stayed in the Marriott on the waterfront and loved it). At the Courtyard, the service was great and the rooms were very nice. I had a few small complaints. The hotel room was booked and paid for by someone else, so when I arrived in Halifax, I was told that I could not check in unless I showed the credit card used to book the room. When I explained that it was not my credit card and this is why we had paid for the room in advance, the front desk clerk explained that a $250.00 deposit would be required. I was travelling with two children and we were only there for a quick overnight trip — I didn't even bring enough money for the deposit. It took about half an hour to straighten it out. The clerk agreed to take a $100.00 deposit — I think he took pity on me because it was getting late and I was out of options. The other thing that annoyed me was a $20.00 charge for valet parking, which I thought was a little unreasonable. The valet service was wonderful and very fast, though. The last small complaint (other than the fire alarm being pulled by teenagers for the third time that day) was the fact that there were no toasters to be found! I do give the staff credit for trying to find one for me to use, however. Overall, a very nice hotel.
