Great location and friendly staff. Could do with a telephone in the room, but good for the price.

Very basic accommodation but suitable for what we required roaming Vancouver.
With in touching distance of Stanley Park as well as shops, restaurants and a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre.

Peaceful location and within walking distance of marina, shops and restaurants. However room needs updating, paint work chipped and carpet stained.

Staff are amazing at this hotel. Extremely helpful. We had economy room which as price was basic but very clean. Would definitely recommend hotel to people. Shower and toilet across the corridor but very clean and good to use. Staff brill.

Amazing location with a room price to match. The room price does reflect the hotel as being dated with no elevator, we were on the 3rd floor. However the staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was clean, and the bed comfortable. I Would stay here again.

Honestly, this is worth the price. The refrigerator is located in the lobby, and the bathrooms and showers are not in the room. Overall, maintenance could be improved. However, it is conveniently located to Stanley Park and a lot of other sightseeing tours in Vancouver.

Low price, great deal for the location. Nothing fancy. Small bathroom but gets the job done. Hot water pipes in the walls woke us up several times throughout the morning with a loud clicking sound when other rooms were showering. Probably wouldn’t stay again because of that. Hot water was dangerously hot. Turned the shower knob the wrong way and got a burn on my hand from the hot water that still hurts hours later. Top floor was quite warm. A fan was provided, and we had it next to the window all night but the room was always on the warm side. Perhaps request a lower floor if possible. Had to search for street parking but found it a few blocks away.

This place is great! It has a hostel charm with the shared bathrooms but with hotel level security and service! I would definitely recommend staying here.

Don't expect a lot. It's clean and quiet and affordable. Get your own bathroom. Don't go when it's hot outside, the fans don't help alot. We only stayed one night, so that was doable.

We got a room with a fairly tiny ensuite, this is an older place with character, not shiny and new, with great proximity to Stanley Park, Food Row, the Marina, and the Pedestrian walkway. Stores and shopping nearby too. It was peaceful, with a fabulous restaurant downstairs… leafy trees line the street… close to everything while being quiet and cozy… a hidden gem at a good value.

Excellent location, clean rooms, a little dated but for the price it's everything you need.

The hotel is located close to Stanley park and English bay. Great value for rooms. You can choose rooms with shares bathrooms for even better deal. It's an old building and has it's own charm, but no airconditioning. The staff are very friendly and say that the place isn't haunted (but I don't buy that).

The Buchan is a 2 star hotel, with everything that implies. The building is old (and it shows), the rooms are basic bed and ensuite deals, the room was also not very big, and the bed was hard. I actually like hard beds anyway, but it's worth knowing about. Having said all that, the room was very clean, it had a big window that let a lot of light in, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a common room with free tea and coffee, and lots of books. No TV or radio though, oddly enough. It's also in a great location, within walking distance of a lot of restaurants, but no attractions/landmarks. On the other hand, it's close to a main road so you can easily catch the bus to anywhere you want. It also smells really good on the street outside the hotel; this is due to the flower bushes along the street. If you've got pollen allergies or hay-fever, it's worth keeping this in mind. I think I would stay here again, but purely as a place to sleep, shower and change. Come with no expectations at all. It's not bad, just basic.

Hotel is ok, neighborhood is excellent. The hotel is cozy but pretty old and we can hear steps and people talking all the time… Lobby area is nice.

This hotel has been described as a bare-bones hotel, and its the truth. The pictures online make the rooms look nicer then they actually are. The bed for me is too hard and caused low back discomfort. My partner didn't mind the bed being hard. There's no decor in the rooms, a radiator for heating, no body wash or lotion toiletries available (only small bar soap and shampoo provided in the room and at front desk). However, the building and rooms are very clean, sheets and towels changed daily, it's quiet, comfortable temperature, always free tea and ready coffee available in the common room, the lobby has a display board showing up coming events in the area, and there's always a friendly front desk staff member present. I also can't say enough about how great the location is. The hotel is on a quiet street, a quick walk to the main road leads you to countless restaurants, coffee shops and bars, grocery and drug stores, even a liquor mart. It's also walking distance to a free shuttle that takes you to Capilano suspension bridge, and a quick walk to the English Bay Beach, which has a couple neat landmarks — an Inukshuk and A-maze-ing Laughter sculptures. As a visiting young person, this is a great area to start exploring, and this is an inexpensive decent hotel to stay at.

Was very nice, everything was very clean and we had a decently spacious room. The only thing is that Wi-Fi wasnt that good.

I originally booked a private room for two days, but as soon as I entered the room, I notice a rotten putrit smells coming from somewhere else. I went right away an cancelled the second night. No worth itfor the price and the quality. The only good thing, was the view from my windown room.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. One night we did not sleep well by the noise but the next day I said it at reception and they gave me plugs.

It was an excellent experience. It was close to many cool places to go and it was very reasonably priced and very cute. I hope to stay there every time I stay in Vancouver.

Reasonably priced, but don't expect much. It's just a place to lay your head for a night or two. Parking is limited and first come first serve. Staff was really friendly and the coffee/tea in the lobby was nice.

Great little hotel in a quiet neighborhood but close to everything. It has shared toilets and showers, but very clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room is perfect! Comfy bed lots of space and very clean but the shared bathroom was disappointing. Almost always full and wasn't always cleaned right after the last person used it (shower). However if you are flexible and easy going with a limited budget (ie private hostel room with shared bathroom) this place is great! Nice location near Korean food and Stanley park … and sink in the room so you can wash face and brush teeth in room.

I was on the 1st floor with a bathroom. Staff was very helpful with directions and holding our luggage till we were ready to leave. Coffee in the lobby was nice Quiet atmosphere in the town, close to the water, bus line and the park. Lots of walking.

Great customer service, friendly staff and clean rooms. For the price it’s great and near the city. We stayed in the shared bathroom option and it turned out to be a lot better then we thought. We never had to wait and they kept them clean. **Keep in mind if you rent a car parking on the street is possible but it can be hard to get a spot. The parking is only two hours during the day and free 9pm-9am. That works fine for us though. The hotel offers $10 day parking but ask quickly or ahead because they only have so many spots!

Didnt know till after I arrived I had to share bathrooms. In a tiny room that felt like a jail cell and the hallway looked like it was from out of a scary movie. Staff was friendly enough. But I definitely wont be staying there again.

Hidden gem in the city of Vancouver. Great value for your dollar. Coffee and Tea, Newspaper in the lobby with Wi-Fi and comfy couches. Just a few blocks from Sunset Beach in one direction and a few in another takes you to the city. Had it not been for Buchan, we'd probably would not have stayed in Vancouver because the price of hotels was outrageous. Lovely place.

Hotel atmosphere was great and in a great neighborhood, in solid walking distance from most things. The lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful, and with the exception of a couple noises the hotel was pretty quiet. Only other con was the lack of AC, but being from Midwestern USA, this still wasn't bad.

Fantastic location but fairly run down. Not every room has a private bath. This leads to a lot of guests loudly walking down the hallways and opening and slamming doors. Actual room substantially worse than pictures. Would be reluctant to stay again.

Very hospitable. The rooms were clean and quiet and the hallway surprisingly smelled delightful. The only odd bit about this establishment is that the toilets and showers were separate from the rooms, but they were clean and easily accessible.

What a fantastic little jewel in the middle of everything. Loved our stay, our room was perfect, location was even more perfect. Highly recommend for an affordable, enjoyable downtown experience.

Great location very close to stanley park! great staff. I got my room upgraded for free. So lucky :) not too far from downtown and there are great restaurants within 2 minute walking distance! great budget hotel.

Wouldnt even give this place one star if I didnt have to. Didnt tell us we had to share bathrooms also only a few parking spots for the whole hotel cost us alot to pay for parking else where, no air conditioning room. Wouldnt recommend this place to anyone who wants a hotel its way more like a hostel.

I liked the stay at this hotel. I read reviews ahead of time and they were perfectly correct. The rooms was very small but clean, clean sheets, the shared bathrooms were also small but clean. It was good for what I needed, and nice and cheap.

I absolutely love the Buchan! Even when I lived in Vancouver, I stayed there many times. I called it, "Being a tourist in your own town". If you are going to Vancouver to enjoy the sites, activities and night life, the Buchan (and it's location), is the place to be. Downtown Vancouver is very small… you can walk everywhere. Book well ahead… I stayed there in mid April (2016) … and it was pretty well full.

Stayed in a economy queen size room. I found it tidy and practical, as it had a sink and mirror in the room. The toilets and shower were on each floor and they were small but clean. They have a very cozy common room on the ground floor and they offer tea, coffee and milk. The Wi-Fi is very good in the room. The staff were very kind and as I spend my time there near Christmas time they also gave the guests chocolates " from Santa". Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

Hello, I have initially booked for 2 nights but changed to just one night after looking at few important things. Our room did not have a private washroom and toilet. We were told to use shared washroom and toilet which was ridiculous. It was so hot in the room and there is no air conditioner in the room. There is no refrigerator in the room as well to keep your water bottles cool. Hotel does not have any parking lot like any other hotel here in downtown which is okay but I would pay little more to have a parking space. Hotel staff service was average not very cooperative. If you loose your key you will be charged 50 dollars. Hotel does not provide breakfast as well. I will never book this hotel again.

Old — fashioned courtesy, helpfulness, cleanliness, and price!

Very cheap, very nice rooms, great locations, and good service. It really does feel more like a hotel than a hostel. Clean, comfy beds, and a nice lounge with free coffee, and otherwise a very nice experience.

Felt more like a hostel than a hotel. The bathrooms were incredibly tiny. Room was very stuffy and hot. The bed was stiff as a brick. No real amenities, no iron, no fridge, chairs were from the 70's. Felt cheated by reading the online reviews and showing up here. Save your money and stay in a real hostel. The location was great though.

We always enjoy our stay at the Buchan. It's reasonably priced in a lovely old building in the West End. Staff are very friendly.
