The room 225 I stayed at was clean and nice. The only issue I had was the toilet not working. The clerk at the front desk was awesome. He was a cool guy to talk to. The continental breakfast was waffles and coffee. From 7-9am I woke up at 10am so I don't know how it tasted.

The service was awful like really if I could I would give 0 star. The toilet kept moving, the bathtub flooded because the drain did not work. Also I paid $600 for one bedroom and did not even get anything to drink not even water, etc. The room was also really dirty and the room was pretty tight and the television was really small and finally the food were leftovers and you barely got anything for the price. I will recommend to stay in a tent instead or stay in your car but don't go to this hotel. Also there were bedbugs too. Overall this place is not for humans.

I would give a lower rating if I could. We found bugs on our pillow minutes after walking into our suit. Instantly, we grabbed our stuff and went back to the front desk. We explained to the man what we just found and that we only wanted to leave with our money back. Considering, the bugs and that we were in that room for less than 4 minutes. He wanted to see for himself the bugs so we all went back to the suit showed him exactly where they were and he tried saying it wasn't bugs… I'm not sure what else has little tiny legs and crawls though. He said he couldn't do a refund, only the manager could. It was 2 am so we didn't think much of it. He told us to write a note and we would get our refund when the manager returns in the morning. It's been 3 weeks, we've called everyday and emailed (all the staff tell us he will respond to email) still nothing from the manager nor any refund.

Awful management. Dingy rooms. Much better rooms in the area for a better value. Do not waste your time.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! I've never taken the time to write a review about a place, but this place was so awful I cannot go without writing one. I stayed here recently on my way to Alaska, and upon arriving I was greeted by an incredibly rude front desk worker. Once opening the door to my room, I was instantly greeted with a very old, smelly, dirty looking bed and room. I showered and then sat down on the bed and decided to remove the sheets to check for bedbugs. I was disgusted (yet not in the least bit surprised) when I found a ton of bedbugs underneath the mattress and sheets. I went to the front desk to demand my money back, only to be told they would not give me my refund and would only move me to another room after I argued for about 30 minutes. The new room I was taken too was just as disgusting as the first and had messed up sheets and sticky tables like someone had just left. I checked for bedbugs and the second room had them too. I was so disgusted that I left completely and bought another room at another hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE EVER! This is the worst managed and kept hotel I have ever been to, and I normally have pretty low standards. You will 100% regret your stay here if you decide to get a room for the night.

I do not recomend! They inicially said that the rate was $79 but they charged me $129 plus tax. Completely overpriced, room was very small, dirty and smelly.

HEALTH HAZARD ALERT I booked a room in this creepy motel last month for 6 days. The receptionist had no data of me booking in advance online. After a hour long wait they managed to get me a room and charged me $600 deposit for 6 days stay. I had to do it as I was in a hurry to get a room not aware of what I was getting into. After checking into the room and taking a nap for two hours and waking up I was scared to death when I saw a USED CONDOM lying on the floor next to my bed. I jumped out of my head and rushed to washroom to clean myself. The washroom had no soap. So when searching for my own body wash I noticed red blood spots on the bed sheet. I ran to the phone in the room. Not knowing what number to dial as I was scared if I contracted some disease I checked the drawers and saw two used syringes and cigarette butts and ashes. I quickly ran to reception and explained them the situation and they told they couldn't do anything about it as its late night and no room service. I told them I couldn't sleep in that room as there was used CONDOM syringes and blood spots on the sheet. They told due to company policy they couldn't transfer me to another room either in the night. I told them I wanted to cancel the room and let them charge for one night and give my deposit back. They told it will take a week to get my deposit back. I had no options than to agree to their policy.

Horrible. This place was a nightmare … the hallway had a nasty stench … the room stinks of weed, booze and cigarette. Never make a mistake renting this place. The rooms are not worth 20$. Wen checking out they accused me of stealing their towels and charged me $60. This messed up my credit.

Customer service is terrible. Rooms are small, dark and dated. I booked for a week and needed to cancel and they refused to give a refund even though I had not used the room. I would have paid a normal cancellation fee of one night but they kept the whole 7 nights fee. I would not recommend staying here. The price is not worth it.

We are a young family, who come to Calgary to do shopping about twice a month. We thought we would try a "cheaper" hotel, don't be fooled by their cheap rates. From time we got to hotel, room smelt like smoke, room was dirty, & very run down, very noisy & management does nothing about other people being loud. I did not feel comfortable having my family in room, but we had already paid the $70 (+ deposit which they kept) so we decided to stay, contacted the cleaning lady but she did not come by while we were shopping, we checked out… went home. One week later I receive my credit card statement, & the room costs our small family over $170, (which was supposed to be $70) for a very crappy room. Will never stay here again, just pay the extra $20-$30 to get a nice room at a reputable hotel. I should have known from their 2* review how bad the place was, don't risk bringing your family here without expecting them to keep your deposit claiming you ruined something or left something dirty. We don't drink, we don't smoke, all we did was bring our family to sleep, and leave to go to zoo & shopping. Terrible customer service, worst hotel experience I've had.

Awful. Shortly after we arrived the police also showed up. Check in took 45 minutes as their debit machine was not working, front desk attendants at both check in and check out were rude. They billed the entire stay on my credit card before we arrived and still demanded a deposit up front, made us wait 20 minutes at check out as they went to the room with gloves on to inspect before returning our refund. Very much a shady place, I do not recommend anyone stay there. Pay the extra and go somewhere with somw professionalism.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Worst experience I've ever had! I was in Calgary for my sisters baby shower and booked a room through Expedia for 2 nights. The first night I was harassed by a drunk guy from the room next door who was yelling the entire night. The next day I get a call from the office stating that a towel from my room had a stain on it and I needed to pay for it. First off I had not even used a single towel and had turned down room service when they came by. I demanded to see the towel and the lady pretended to not speak English or understand me and just kept saying that if I didn't pay for the towel she would be keeping my deposit. Obviously I rationalized a $35 towel was not worth a $200 deposit and paid the charge. I was gone for whole second day and didn't return until midnight that night. I went straight to bed and when I woke up I used the pot provided to make some instant oatmeal and checked out of the room. After going out for breakfast with an old friend I checked to see if they had returned my security deposit and noticed they didn't. I called to find out what the delay was and I was informed that I was not getting my security deposit back because there was a dirty pot left in the sink. I tried to argue with the lady but she hung up on me! My flight was leaving soon and I had to get to the airport so I cut my loses and vowed to never stay at this motel ever again!

Worst hotel I have ever been to breakfast was horrible service was horrible over all horrible. I booked for one week but I wanted to leave sooner then I booked but they wouldn't give I refund back ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE NEVR GOING BACK ROOM DOESN'T SMELL CLEAN HAS FOUL ODER Will discourge others not to stay there. Room was renovated recently so was okay. Only had one pillow each and was very thin so made for a so so sleep. Didn't, have the breakfast but selection seemed to be limited. There seems to be to many rules to posted. Doesn't make for very welcoming atmosphere. I know the cost to stay is very low but that only goes so far. Location is okay being on McLeod Trail.

Price is good and location too. The worst part is the reception service! Don't feel like they are dealing with costumers! They might need to be a better human person!

It's a reasonably priced hotel with a bird diet breakfast. Wi-Fi is spotty at best and when it's cold outside the rooms are freezing inside. Use your judgement when deciding where you stay in Calgary, as reasonable priced lodging is just another word for cheap. If you go cheap you get what you pay for. Buyer, or in this case traveling renter beware.

Clean room good service breakfast could be better coffee sucked limited selection.

I check today and front desk went extra mile to help me and my wife. I like to thank you and the room is clean. For the price is reasonable as well, I can not complain about. Like I said thank you for everything.

Almost a run down motel but okay for a few night stay. Has a sign in front of the building stating new beds but not true as beds are as old as anything plus right on the floor with no bedframe. Fridge was filty with a big fly in it. It states breakfast is included but they only have slices of bread, waffle maker with waffle mix, juice from a dispenser and cereal… scrambled eggs would have been nice with the bread.

Their customer service goal seems to be to deliberately make their customers disappointed and upset. The reason all the reviews are bad is mostly because they don't know how to talk down a bad customer experience and turn it positive. I reserved a one bedroom, I got charged for a one bedroom, but then when I got here the clerk said she had to charge me more because they only had two bedrooms left (which are more $$). They said they gave away my room because I didn't respond to the email soon enough. Even though I replied to the email AND talked to them on the phone again 3hrs before arrival — — I was still charged extra for the room I didn't even want. The advertised free Wi-Fi didn't work. Our fire alarm went off at 11:30pm for no apparent reason and the desk didn't know why and didn't want to look into it so we just waited for it to stop ringing and went back to sleep. The rooms are okay, and you get access to ice, a microwave, and the cabin rooms have a small stove which is nice. The bad customer service really soured the whole visit for us — I probably would recommend this hotel otherwise.

Will never stay here again. Worst experience ever. Was charged $162.41 for the night. I see it is going for $69 on Trip Advisor. Not worth $40 a night. Very tiny room — 1 foot on either side of bed only. Air conditioner kept going on and off — right above my head — woke up everytime. Tried opening the window instead but loud noise from traffic on Macleod trail and very bright lights shining in the window. No extra pillows in room and the pillows available were awful. The boxspring was sitting on the floor — mattress not comfortable. Found a comb under the sheets from a previous client — GROSS! Found empty water bottles and used cups in room from previous client. Phone did not work, but that did get replaced. Housekeeper confirmed that room was cleaned — highly questionable. Found a large shampoo bottle in the bathroom from previous client. Hair on the bathroom floor — YUCK! No coffee available at the included breakfast which consisted of making your own waffle. Parking is difficult with a truck and someone in our spot when we returned late in the evening so had to park elsewhere. There is however an enclosed entryway to each 2 rooms with easy access all the time (no locks) that would make a great free sleeping place for anyone come winter. The place should be condemned.

At 2 in the morning, it took more than 45 minutes to check in. Don't have someone else, god forbid, pay for your hotel for you. The receptionist and the manager won't be able to figure out how to let you stay there because your credit card number doesn't match what's on file. The toilet was not clean, random hairs were in bed with me. But for 4 hours of sleep, $250 was as they advertised… Canada's BEST VALUE inn.

Was $160 for the night. That got me a hole in the corner and and evening with a rodent. And wasn't no mouse. Also very week on the cleanliness. Cause I know for certain they weren't my hairs in the bed or shower, I'm bald. Enlightened the counter staff upon check out. "Are you sure, all our rooms were just renovated. Did you complain last night? " No I'm letting you know now. Dissatisfied with cost to "Best Value" Room 113 if you happen to read your reviews.

Every staff member I interacted with at this location was extremely arrogant. And every guest I saw that interacted with staff also had bad experiences. They make you pay up front when you check in, which was quite ridiculous. If you're paying on debit, they charge you $600 dollars up front as a "damage deposit". The rooms are disgusting and the whole place smells the same. When we were checking out, they made us stand in the lobby for 20 minutes while they checked the room for any damage. While we were waiting to be refunded the extra money they charged us, we watched as what we assumed was the manager yell at another customer and told her to shut up. We witnessed this whole interaction and this was absolutely uncalled for. When we finally got to check out, we asked if he was the manager, as we were so disgusted by the way he dealt with the lady before us and he refused to tell us if he was or not. I've never seen such outrageous customer service in my whole life as I did at this hotel. If you're someone who chooses Canada's Best Value Inn, definitely go to the one on 16th Ave in Calgary rather than this one. I spoke with their manager to get a corporate phone number to call and complain about this experience and she was extremely helpful and explained that my experience was not out of the ordinary for the other location. Do not waste your time or money on this place. It blows my mind that these people are able to run a business the way they do.

The rooms were fine, clean nothing to complain about. But the staff was extremely rude, when asked for a sweetner the receptionist rudely turned us away, not impressed.

Sister booked 5 nights through Expedia, but messed up had wrong month selected and didn't review the summary email close enough. This is our fault and take full responsibility for the error. However, sister calls up to cancel as she no longer needs to stay, but the time has now passed and finds out the hotel charged her for the full amount. There was no courtesy call from the hotel to find out if she's coming in, no default cancel after 1-2 nights, just flat out charges the full amount for 5 days. This is ridiculous. We spoke to a few people at the hotel as well as Expedia and they won't do anything about it. They told us "this happens all the time" and they always just charge the full amount regardless. If this happens all the time, maybe they should update policies as they are basically stealing peoples money. This is super poor policy, even worse customer service and basically theft. As a side note, I made calls to other hotels in the area, small and chain, and was told that no courtesy call would go out, but after 1-2 nights they'd cancel the stay. We'd be responsible for the first 1-2 nights, but that's it. This is fair and acceptable practice, but charging for full stay, that's totally unacceptable.

Rooms were clean and type. They had everything we required to clean up and have a good night's sleep. Not a huge variety for breakfast but for what your paying there was enough choice and what was there was good. Staff were also helpful and polight.

This place has good prices and is kept quite clean. This isn't a four start hotel, if that is what you are looking for, bit of you are pressed for budget, this place is clean, inexpensive, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

The room are cozy and very nice. Bathroom are clean and you can find all the things you need. Mini fridge, free Wi-Fi, TV, breakfast and air conditioning! The reviews I read was not so good and I don't get why, unless you like the Hilton-Trump kinda hotels. If you want a cheap and clean place, I'd recommend this one for sure. Friendly staff too! Would come back without hesitation!

I think this location has to be series review in their staff behavior! Being guests in this location, very unprofessional desk attendance, always problem for the breakfast, and very rood information desk for each and every question, wander one, how could be possible a such location has to be hand of such people to handle.

Terrible customer service and conflicting hotel policies* The only reason this place is worth a single star is because of its location to Chinook Mall. I recently helped a friend out who needed place to stay for the night. The security deposit was doubled to $400 because we didn't have a credit card, then they added a handling charge of $20 on top. They were happy to charge a prepaid credit card for the room, but refused to use it for the security deposit. They had run the credit card through despite a policy on the website saying this wouldn't be done until departure, then when we asked for a refund they refused and said we had to call head office for any refunds because that's who it was paid through, despite having just been shown a receipt printed locally. None of these policies are on the national website, only hotels own local site, which when asked to produce them it took the receptionist 15 minutes to find. Upon checking out someone went to the room and claimed that towels were missing, the lamp was broken and we had somehow managed to melt one of the fridge shelves. No check done when we arrived however and we were not shown a check-list from earlier that day to show the items were intact. The lamp was already broken when he got in the room, because he tried to switch it on. My friend didn't even open the fridge door and upon quick glance there were enough towels for my friend so he didn't need to question if there were any missing.

This hotel used to be a Howard Johnson. They stole a 500 dollar deposit from me and said that I smoked in the room. I never did smoke in this room and found out on reviews that they stole from several other people as well. They did not change ownership or management when they changed names.

First time I've ever written a review — first time angry enough to post. One star is way to much for this place. Room stank but the worst part of all of it was the front desk lady. Horrible customer service and hounded from the moment it was check out time to demand that we leave, so we hurriedly got our stuff together. Did not feel welcome and she could not have been more rude in trying to hurry all her guests out. Never again.

Last time I stayed there, there were stains on sheeta and ciggarett burns. Room smelled like smoke even thouugh it was non smoking. Not best place but you get what you pay for right.

I hate this place. Worst customer service. Worst receptionist. Rooms are extremely dirty. I've been to plenty of motels and hotels around canada and calgary and this is the worst one yet. I didn't stay because of such a horrible experience, I was there for less than 30 minutes and they insisted for me to pay full price. I also booked ahead and when I got there, the receptionist was asking for additional fees. Worst experience ever.

The continental breakfast had moldy bread, separated old orange juice, and a clear slime is what came out of the waffle mix machine. My sheets had someone else's blood on them and when I asked for new ones the lady at the desk argued with me and insisted on checking the sheets and then tried to say she didn't know where clean ones were. When I finally got new ones, they were stained as well but at least washed.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Incredibly awful hotel. The "manager" was unbelievably rude, disrespectful and unhelpful. She needs to be fired. I'll be contacting Howard Johnson corporate. Rooms are disgusting and outdated. A chain name on a hotel used to mean something. Not anymore apparently, at least with this company. You can find much much better for literally a couple dollars more per night. Thats what I did the next night.

I THINK I HAD THE WORST THEN BELOW REVIEWS Horrible! the service was bad I gotten knocked on the door by front desk and maintenance to check on TV when I just gotten out of shower and in my towel. She told me to go back in washroom and close the door while she check TV with the maintenance guy. I said no! What kind of service is that.? SHE Could of wait till I checked out or call not demanded to come in the room I felt unsafe all night.

The stupid East Indian girl at the front desk is racist and rude. She screwed us up so we pay for the room by charging price of the room on credit card. She didn't even ask how we want to pay for the room. Then, she refunded the money back to the credit because she knew it would take three business till it is available again. She refused to answer my questions because I told her that am going somewhere else for I didn't know about the security deposit. She took the payment for the room, and we ended up not staying there because the security deposit was not enough since she return payment she charged to credit card. How don't how she got the job. The manager must be one of her people for she has not customer service skills. If the management review the camera on August 10 around 11:00 Am, it is ridiculous how she served us. She refused to let me talk to the manager.

Please BEWARE when booking with this hotel! I booked a room during the Stampede. When I called more than 48 hours before my check-in to cancel the room I was informed that I would be charged a late cancelation fee because the Stampede was on? This was absolutely not mentioned to me when I booked the room! I tried to speak with management to explain the situation and was completely blown off by the front desk as well as management and was charged for the room. Bottom line if you are not willing to risk getting ripped off DO NOT BOOK WITH HOWARD JOHNSON EXPRESS CALGARY! Thank you for your time.

Room was ready when they said it would be. Staff and housekeeping very friendly. If I asked for it I got it straight away. Bedspread smelled like body odor, but they came to change it as soon as I told them and they changed ALL the sheets, fresh pillows and cases. Housekeeping comes every day. Room overall was actually very clean, including the kitchenette, fridge and supplied dishes, bathroom was great, tub was good, shower curtain was a little grubby but what ever. Wi-Fi was super fast. They have multiple ports so if one was bogged down I just switched. Bring your own coffee. The coffee supplied in the room or in the breakfast room is dreadful lol. Waffles, juice, cereal and toast were all good. 65 bucks a night is still a great deal all the same for what I got. The breakfast I ate everyday would cost me 6-7 bucks at a restaurant. 3 fresh waffles, bowl of cereal, glass of juice. I was in the north building main floor. And for the noise, Google maps clearly shows it's on Mcleod Trail. I just let the bathroom fan run. Common trick. Drowns out the racket of the adjacent roadway. Slept like a baby every night. I stayed for 7 days. My parents were in the hotel industry for 30 years as owners. Seen it all. This place is o. K. To the people crying about the hair they found on the towel, it's a hotel. It happens. They can't possibly inspect every piece of linen. I have had that happen at hotels that are twice the price.

Horrible place. The side walk is cheaper and a better place to sleep.

If you stay in the wrong building at this "HOJO" the difference is like heaven and hell. We were awarded hell upon our stay by the gatekeeper of this zombie world. We knew we were screwed and entrapped when they required all "guests" to sign an agreement including a lovely alcohol/drug form long after you already paid HOJO on Booking. Con. Too late for us to run away! Uh! What's next?!? Thanks Booking. Yeah? Uh No. Booking. Lame. Then we saw the stained room where we would spend our sleepless night itching our skin raw. I never knew I could itch in my sleep after I finally fell asleep around 5 am. Check out 11 am, or $15/15 minute overage. $150 room deposit required for all "guests". They would not even allow us to change rooms to one with no or maybe even just less blood stains or fecal matter? So in kind return, here are my thoughts about their unconscious zombie world on planet HOJO. Baiting and switching is not only unethical, it is also illegal. So shut your hotel down HOJO until you can turn yourself back to being a human. I will spare readers the photos of the building and room that runs parallel to the road (Hell). They contain pictures of blood on the curtains, a large black tar stain front and center on the bedspread, and perhaps caked fecal matter and hair on the sheets? The dangling exposed wire of the bathroom ceiling fan was nice too. The sound of the highway is like a river of cars, trucks, police and ambulances much of the night.

My room had a terrible musty smell. I stayed at the HOJO for 11 nights and my room was only cleaned twice, very poorly in my opinion. When I checked in there was other peoples hair in the bathtub and when I checked out, I noticed that the manager had charged me $190 for smoking in my room which is pretty sad seeing as how I am not a smoker! Stay away.

I Lost $334.00 at this place (I had booked 3 nights via the net). We never did stay, as I went to look at the room and found it to be disgusting. I had my 3 year old grandchild and my daughter with me. The room had old stained sheets, mold in the tub and human hair on the pillows; even though it was suppose to be non-smoking, it was stale with a slight smell of smoke. They would not give me my money back. I phoned the better business bureau and the health inspector and Howard Johnson headquarters. I would say, do not even think about booking this piece of shit place! I would not even ask the homeless people to stay there. Few of my coworkers stayed here less than a month ago only because all the other hotels in Calgary were booked. First rooms smelled very bad, it was completely overpriced. Also, GM of that hotel that I have to deal with because they have not provided receipts for all the charges on the guests credit cards. Has not been helpful. Horrible customer service. I had to explain to her three times over the phone that was was charged to the credit card to hold 5 rooms was not what was refunded, money is missing and no receipt is provided.

I've been staying there for the past Month, off and on. My Room was nice and clean. The Bedspread was NOT torn or burnt. The Room smelled nice and clean. The Front Desk person was very nice and approachable. They offer Free Wi-Fi, Breakfast and some of the Rooms have an LCD TV. If you want a better Hotel then the Travelers Inn, this is it.
