Smart Hostel Sofia Hotel

Please avoid at all costs! Never in my life have I seen rooms so DIRTY or so many mosquitoes in one room. Being a hostel I didn't expect much, but what I found was something I couldn't even imagine… Black mold in the fridge, blood stains on the walls and on the mattress. Just the grossest and most creepy place I have ever been. A bathroom with no toilet paper or soap! What were we paying for? The privilege of being bitten by your mosquitos?! I feel lucky to have woken up at 3 am (when I left because I could not take any more mosquito bites) without being robbed and with both my kidneys. We were going home from Greece and for the same price as this horror room we stayed (in Greec, Thasos) in a room with a view of the sea, air conditioning, TV, private kitchen and private bathroom. So what are you offering your guests?

Clean, good service and location in the city.

IN RESANITARY room, a sleep merchant to avoid! The room was infested with dead and living insects. The walls are dirty (vomi and crushed mosquitoes). A fridge at your disposal where you won't even dare to put a bottle so dirty. The bedding is non-existent because just a mattress laid on the floor and the sheets are not made. We didn't use the toilets for fear of getting out dirtier than on arrival. Clearly, this hostel is a sleep merchant. Avoid without hesitation!

There was Mold on the walls in the Rooms, it smelled awkward and the Toilets haven't seen a Plaster Lobe in Years. The Dust that has accumulated everywhere is definitely older than a few Days.
The Equipment with many Klos, Showers and even a Kitchen is good. However, in said kitchen were moldy Food and the Condition of the Premises is also rather mediocre.
There is free Breakfast, but you could have put a little more Effort into it.
The People at the Reception were very nice and could speak English, German and Spanish.
The WI-FI worked flawlessly.
The Location is great. After a 5 to 10 Minute Walk you are in the City centre and after about 15 Minutes taxi Ride at the Airport.

Worse Hostel ever! We were travelling through the whole country and this was so far the worse. The rooms don't look at all like the pics, and the batrooms were awful. It was a basement without ventilation system and full with Mosquitoes. If I could I would have given them cero starts. When we arrived both of the bathroom were blocked and they didn't clean them or solve the problem, they just told is to use other bathroom! Only the hostel location was okey! DONT GO THERE!

We slept in an underground floor, it was wet and smelt like a cave. The bathroom was blocked and nobody from the personal wanted to clean it. Blood stains in the walls. Breakfast was good.

Very cheap and the room was very good form the price. The showers were a little bit weird but for the rest everything was okay.

The only positive thing was that the woman at the reception was very nice. The windows were broken so open. The keys didn't fit, and we didn't come to the front door, nor could we lock our door when we went out. We told you, but nothing happened. The showers are moldy and spider weaving is everywhere. No soap, no toilet paper. At breakfast there was no bread and in the fridge in our room were moldy foods. It was so bad that it was almost fun again. The staff were very friendly and the room was very clean.

I stayed in a room of 8 people with some friends. Clean rooms and big beds. Very kind workers and calm atmosphere. Good breakfast also.

This hostel is only a few blocks from Sofia main attraction. The staff is helpful, delicious self-service breakfast, and warm dorms with comfortable beds.

Great hostel. Very well priced and the free breakfast is surprisingly good for only £5 per night. All staff where super friendly and helpful. I went in November when it was a Bit whiter and the place had a great chilled vibe. I can imagine it gets a Bit wild peak season. Also cat 44 is lovely.

Excellent personal, rooms and beds. Location is also good: you can walk everywhere. However the bathrooms, during my stay, werent very clean… but nothing big that you can't handle.

We are a spanish group, and this was one of best experience in an hostel in a travel. Staff people are amazing and the atmosphere too. THANK U for everything dudes. See u again.

Despite its great reputation, this hostal has left much to be desired on my visit to Sofia. Apart from failure to clean and the receptionists were a great part of the time drunk, a day of the 4 that we had booked told us they had no bed for us, told us that there was another hostel and joined us, taking that pay us a higher amount to the one that we had booked with this hostel. In short, a very little serious and not recommended.

Lovely place with a great american cook :D Worth the money you pay. The breakfast is diverse and tasty. There are mixed showers per floor. You have a locker in the lobby for only 1€ which you get back.

Very poor hostel. There’s a list of things that are far below the standard. For one, the doors aren’t locked, not even during the night. So anyone can wonder in and I heard refugees sometimes just take a bed. There was this Syrian guy who just slept in a different bed every night. Another thing that was totally ridiculous was the fact that at 5 AM I was woken up by a staff member, who was asking for the origin of my passport, because something was mixed while dividing the beds, which is unheard of and totally out of line. Then there’s the sanitary services. The showers are in the same room as toilets, so the toilets are constantly wet and taking a shower is very inconvenient. The overall hygiene was pretty poor as well, I’m not quite sure but it seemed like all over the wall were stains of puke, I still hope it wasn’t, but I can’t think of anything else it could be. Furthermore, it was way too cold everywhere in the hostel. I can’t imagine how bad it will be in the winter. To end on a positive note, the beds were quite comfy and the breakfast is pretty good. Overall though, I seriously wouldn’t recommend it however low the price.

Nice people. For the price a decent breakfast. A bit strange that the showers are basically also the bathrooms with toilet and sink. One morning I hade no warm water, that was rather disappointing, though I never investigated why since it was my last night there.

They put in another building two houses away from the main one. The door of the room wouldn't close. There was a free coffee but no clean cups.

Its a very good place. Breakfast was awesome. Very nice and clean. In the centre of Sofia.

Pos: The room was clean, friendly host father, cheap night despite Central location. Neg: The Owner was under the influence of alcohol on arrival ca 18 o'clock already. It was until 3 o'clock at night no peace, there in the hallway and in the kitchen no regard for the sleep genomnen and in the room itself in and out was a walk with the associated Stinmung. The doors popped. It was found also no toilet paper in two days. The best mosquito spray didn't help…
