We spent a week at this hotel in while meeting up with our son, who is spending the year in Brazil. The location, front desk staff, breakfasts, bar staff, happy hours, rooftop, workout facilities and food were amazing. We were spoiled with waking up to a breakfast buffet with omelet bar, fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit — mango, fresh bread…. Top notch! Complimentary daily happy hour with wine, beer, and delicious food, with wide open ocean views of Copacabana beach were a highlight of our days, and hotel staff bent over backwards to help us with anything we needed all week. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rio!

When you check into this beachside oasis you will be pampered until you leave…every staff member is kind, polite, professional and helpful…many employees speak English…this is our third time staying here in the past seven months and we’ve enjoyed every minute! When visiting Rio this is the place to stay!

It’s not worthy of the JW brand. Room and service are pitiful. Poor front desk guy was overworked. We waited 20 minutes to get our room. Only to get a room that was smelly, with dirty carpet and poor curb appeal.

The spa service, available at the top floor, offers a decent massage and a very average dry sauna. You can choose between a relaxing message (220 reais) and a deep tissue massage (280 reais), among others. The rooms lack the sea view, which the likes of Hilton or Sofitel offer, but they are relatively quiet and well-organized. Overall, the infrastructure is rather old, with just one shower available at the cloak room and an old woodden bench in the sauna space, which gets overheated all the time. Big kudos to the gym folks — the machines are all brand new and the view is amazing.

Good hotel with a really friendly and efficient staff. Located right in front of Copacabana beach. The only let down is food. Very less choice of food and quality food. Stay was good otherwise.

Good hotel in Copacabana, but something disused. They didn't pick up room service from the hallways. It took them 48 hours to pick up the remains of a fruit plate from our hallway. Please note that air conditioning is too strong in public areas. We've gotta warm up. Only a bathrobe and slippers in a double room. I went to the spa for massage and made the appointment, then when I went to do it they told me I was busy. I think they should take better care of those details, when it comes to a five-star.

This JW Marriott is just across the street from the beach so the location is quite good. The hotel itself is older and feels more like a Marriott than a JW Marriott. There are not as many amenities as one might expect. Nevertheless, the staff were helpful and you are in Rio. One suggestion is to take up the hotel on their offer of transportation to and from the airport in part for security reasons.

Perfect hotel from which to explore Rio. Perfect setting on Copocabana Beach. Attentive and welcoming staff both in the hotel and on the beach. Close to many good restaurants, and very safe and secure. We recommend it.

Highly disappointing if you’re expecting the standards usually associated with the distinguished label of JW Marriott. While the staff were excellent, the facility is struggling to make 3 Stars look fitting. Maybe there are different floors, but our deluxe ocean view king room cake with mold and bubbling trim in the bathroom, exposed electrical wires are a broken shelf in the closet, and a distinctly funky smell of mildew. The views from the rooftop are great, but the pool is tiny and the bar meager. If you’re looking for 4 to 5 Star places on Copacabana then definitely avoid. We ended up walking over to the Belmond Copacabana Palace twice to dine there and wish we were staying there to enjoy their wonderful facilities and true top class service.

Situated in a great location on Copacabana beach as a swim pool on roof terrace I had sea view the staff couldn't do enough for you and you had coffee facility's in room had a great time and I would stay here again thank you Marriott's you didn't disappoint.

I am a member of Marriott group more than 10 years and I have been to couple of dozens of Marriott hotels all around the world … this is by far is the WORST hotel. By room sizes, by hotel standards, by receptionists… Rooms are small, run down, no opening windows for a fresh air, awkward beach service. I am surprised to see this hotel as a 5 star, if it was somewhere else it would hardly get 3 stars… NOT RECOMMENDED!

We spent two nights here at the JW Marriott. We had a lovely oceanfront junior suite, a great full bathroom and a powder bathroom in the entry, a decent sized separate bedroom, and a small living room. The suite had two modern TVs,. And the decor, although dated, seemed just right for the settings. The hotel food was fine, and the entire establishment was clean and comfortable. It was a nice haven of tranquility in Rio, where I did not otherwise feel particularly comfortable or safe.

This is definitely not what you would expect from a JW Marriott, but a 2 — to 3-star city business hotel. The hotel is generally old and was not constructed to a 4 — or 5-star standard you would expect from a JW Marriott. The carpets and furniture in the rooms are old. The bathrooms are tiny. Most of the rooms are facing the center atrium and you can look right into other guests' faces. They do often upgrade Platinum members to the oceanview rooms when available and in my case it wasn't available for the first 3 nights but they moved us to the ocean view room after that. That room had a small window that looks right at the Copacabana Beach which is very nice and added light into the room. The bathrooms were small in both of the rooms I was in. I read many reviews about the executive lounge being the best they have been to at any hotel. I have travel a lot and stayed at many hotels in different countries, and this one is certainly not anywhere near the top of the ones I have experienced. There is often very little food and not replenished. For the first 3 days I was there, I would not be able to find any seat during breakfast or in the evening, and when guests leave, there were not enough staff to clean up the plates or to put out new food. Many other guests were also standing and eating holding their plates. There is only white, red and sparkling wines provided in the evening hours. The service was also a little off half of the time.

This is one of the best hotels on planet earth. The free breakfast is a gourmet delight. The staff is wonderful. Security is excellent. The rooms are comfortable.

It is not a receipt that in a hotel that pretends to be mid-high end you charge the Wifi… Especially when other Marriot you return the money of that service to do the membership… in this No… The electronic keys of the rooms also do not work well.

It has been a really nice experience, the hall is great has a lot of space and a nice at conditioner for hot days, the rooms are quite nice, with a nice hot bath and a nespresso machine, the best part is the view to Copacabana beach.

This place is my go to in Rio, it is on the Copa cabana, the decor is a bit dated, but the rooms are fresh and clean. The roof top bar is nice and serves great burgers (try the mush burger), it does close at 10pm on most nights so don't be late. My only beef with the place is that the airco is quite loud and given Rios climate you do need it on.

Upscale hotel at the heart of the famous Copacabana Beach. Warm and professional staff treats you very well and helps to make your stay pleasant. Great breakfast is served at the restaurant on the 2nd floor. The executive lounge on the 9th floor overlooks the beach and features beer and wines among other warm food and deserts in the evenings. Treated very well here and look forward to returning.

Confortable beds! It is truly cozy! But very expensive!

Awful experience. Rooms are small (see pictures) and if you are not lucky to have a view on the beach, you'll have a view on… The inside patio! With every other room peeping into your room. No other solution than living with closed curtains. In addition to that, rooms are VERY noisy. I could hear my neighbor speaking (not yelling) on the phone in his room. No other solution than sleeping with earplugs, in a so-called 5 stars hotel! Temperature in the room was so freezing that I had to ask for a heater (which was very noisy) so I couldn't rest sufficiently. Only positive point : it's located near the beach…

Overall I had a great stay. The location is absolutely amazing and I got a room with ocean view. The room needs some updates specially the bathroom as it still has the old style bath tub with shower and not a proper shower. The front desk screwed up my reservation as my room was not ready. The executive lounge is way too small and needs to be upgraded.

Only for the location deserves 5 stars. The hotel is not bad, the rooms are a little small and almost all are without window. The staff were very helpful and friendly. To choose from to be in front of the sea!

Excellent Hotel Square Right in the middle of the mythical beach of Copacabana, Buffet breakfast very diversified, staff smiling and always ready to do you service! Very nice services and basket amenities Garni, Wi-Fi is excellent but you can find difficulties of connections to improve.

This is not a JW Mariott more like a holiday inn… honestly I read mixed reviews before booking but the photos sold it to me and a few 'platinum' members raving about it. The minute I walked in I knew that its not going to be good and I was so right from the lobby to checkin which took ages all the way to the room and the rubbish breakfast… anyway I cut my 5 days stay into 1 night and moved to the Belmond which was wow. Don't waste your money it's a rip off.

What makes the JW Marriott Rio wonderful was the staff. Exceptional people we met: starting with Ramon at the checkin — he was so personable, warm, knowledge and even though his shift ended at midnight (a fact we found out only by accident) he stayed almost an extra hour answering our we questions about sightseeing, etc. The bar tenders in the lobby bar (a gentleman from Morocco) was an artist with the cocktail, spoke several languages and impressed me with each interaction I saw him make with customers. The pool waiter/bartender we had on the roof our last day (3/26) was another outgoing personality giving exceptional service. I call out these three people as the so made my stay great, but honestly I can tell the JW must have an amazing training team … all the staff we encountered, even casually were superb.

First class hotel with parking. Everthing is nice. My advice to you is it's way too expensive to stay at this hotel. Choose another hotel on the beach for half or a third of the price. Park in the street for 2 reais. Learn from my mistake.

This is a great hotel — excellent service. The Concierge lounge is amazing. I definitely would want to come back to this hotel if coming to Rio again. Safe, clean, good service. Great rooftop deck and drinks. Location is amazing, though Copacabana Beach is slightly older area.

For a first class traveller try to avoid this dirty, smelly and dangerous city. Nothing really to see or do. If you enjoy a dirty sweaty and crowded beach with lots of ugly overweight people looking to rip you off then by all means come. The hotel offers absolutely no service and is a haven and trap for H Stern jewelry concern who are solicitors like a 3rd rate flea market. Spend your money wisely. Do not come to this over priced hotel if you don't want to be corralled into the masses as they are pulled and shofelled through the lobby with bags and crying children at toe. Expect delays and a myriad of excuses and apologies when checking in. note the empty beach scenery pix, empty lobby pix and empty street scene — void of low class and dangerous people. They had good reasons to not really show them under daily use. Do not be fooled! good luck if you do not heed my warning.

The service was one of the best I have ever received. The staff at check-in, executive lounge, bars (both rooftop and on the 1st floor), bellhops,. Everyone was friendly and helpful. In hindsight, I wonder if they all have to go through Disney's training to work here. Of note, we heavily relied on the conceirge desk, and they did a great job, especially Daniel. The rooftop pool provides a spectacular view, the hotel is well positioned (though granted, Ipanema would have been a slightly better location), and the beach service was great too.

Right on Copacabana beach. Rooms facing the ocean are low in number, small but adequate. Business lounge is excellent and the staff, like all Marriotts, are friendly, effective and fluent in English. Decent gym and room terrace. Nice sushi bar too.

This hotel is not only safe and secure and clean, but service is amazing. I cannot say enough about the service that I received during my stay. I am from California and it was my first time visiting Brazil. Isabel and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my friends and I — everything from arranging for pickup/dropoff to and from the airport (45 mins away from hotel) to restaurant recommendations to helping us plan our day. What I will be forever grateful for and why I cannot say enough about the staff here- After I checked out and had reached the airport to head back home, I realized that I left my ring inside the hotel safe. I called and they immediately (time was of the essence as I was soon departing) checked and called me back saying that they located my diamond ring. They even offered to bring my ring to me to the airport but unfortunately I was going to board in 30 minutes and it would have taken them 45 mins to reach the airport. Isabel from the concierge dept. Then said that they could ship it to me once I got home. As you may know, its not easy to ship valuables (esp. Jewelery) since it has to clear customs. Also, corrupt practices among workers in the shipping companies are not uncommon so she was worried about method of shipment. She figured out a clever way to conceal my ring in some documents and send it that way. I received my ring yesterday and cannot thank her and the staff enough. This hotel is clean, secure, and service is second to none.
