Paraíso Azul Retiro Hotel

Beautiful setting! Probably the best compromise between adventure and comfort.

What a wonderful experience it was to stay at Paraiso  Azul Retiro… I can't imagine a better place to enjoy the peaceful and beautiful wild life of Ilha Grande. The staff was so kind and helpful, they truly made us feel at home. The food is delicious and there are plenty of activities to do around the island. I will miss this place and the people working there, including Lua  the dog guide that greats you every morning and takes you anywhere you need to go. Paraiso Azul Retiro is a place of love, and a place to love. Great vibes, best place, best people. Thank you so much!

Far too expensive – very bad value for money
This was our last stop after 10 days travelling in Bresil, our 3rd hotel in this country. We were 2 adults and 2 children (11 and 16 years old). If this hotel is located in a nice place, closed to a nice lagoon, the value for money is bad, very bad. We paid 3540 R$ (around 1000 euro) for 3 nights excluding the lunch and dinner (which are charged at a very high level). With that prices (higher than a 4 stars hotel on the french riviera), we could have expect a high level of services. However that was not the case.
This hotel is located on a very small beach. There is nothing around except fishermen houses. The only way you can get in and out is via taxi boat.
The « suite » we booked was around 30 m2 with a 10 m2 bathroom. When we arrived we had almost 50 mosquitos in the bathroom and 10+ in the bedroom. When you know that the yellow fever is present on this island, this is just unbelievable. Of course, no spray was available in the room, and I was obliged to request one from the staff. The mini bar in the room was empty. During the night it was impossible to get some water to drink. When it rained, one of the beds was wet even if the window was closed…
The day after our arrival, during the afternoon, we had a very bad smell in the bathroom. This was due to blocked pipes. Again I was obliged to request a staff to come in order to find a solution.

It really was a paradise! It is very important to take the transfer boat from them, being the only way to get right there, otherwise you need to walk through the forest for a while since the taxi boat will drop you on a beach nearby. Do not recommend that Also you need to bring a lot of repellents as the windows in your room doesn't seals. Despite those problems it is a truly wonderful place to relax.

Outstanding place, filled with peace and harmony. If you are looking for a close connection with nature without interference of urban stress and technology, this is where to go. International and attentive team. Healthy food and great caipirinhas!

I stayed at Paraiso Azul for 3 nights with my mother and 3 children. We loved it, didn't want to leave. The food is great, the setting is amazing, dining on a big terrace under the stars and practically on the beach. There is a lovely yoga room, and many nooks and crannies for lazing and lounging privately. The beach is sweet, the rooms are clean, and seemed to all have hammocks, ours did. Our children felt free and very welcome, and commented several times on how genuine and sweet the staff is. The energy of the hotel or guest house is very very nice, the nature is amazing, exactly what we were looking for. Peace a real connection to the magical nature of the area and an authentic place. There are all shades of blue in the far off mountains, the sea is magical, the forest alive and present right behind the buildings. The food is great, cooked with love. Honestly we had everything we need and wanted all in one spot. Im a nature and meditation lover and would love to return and hold a retreat in this space. Thanks to the team at Paraiso Azul, we loved it and will return for sure.

We stayed in Paraiso Azul Retiro for 4 nights and had an amazing time there. When we arrived we saw this beautiful house just next to Lagoa Azul and immediately fell in love with it. The view is amazing, the private beach is beautiful and clean and there are some kayaks and sup boards there for free use. You can easily paddle to Lagoa Azul in the morning and enjoy this place without the lots of tourist boats. The hotel also has an amazing wellness area with sauna and whirlpool where you can enjoy the great view over the sea. For Yoga people this is the perfect place because you have a really big Yoga hall there with all the equipment you need and with a view that leaves you speechless. There are some hiking trails you can do directly from the hotel, which are very beautiful and we could really recommend hiking in the jungle there. The rooms were clean and all offer sea view, the food was delicious. Breakfast was served on the terrace directly next to the beach and dinner was romantic with candles. All is fresh prepared and even the bread in the morning is homemade. We also have to mention the staff of this place because they were so friendly and we really enjoyed our time with all of them. We loved this place and found our own little paradise in Paraiso Azul Retiro!

Anyone needing to escape the pace of Rio de Janeiro should come here to unwind…
