Very bad experience, excessive rate for 4 nights (650CAD).
Unsanitary room with ceiling stains, stained bed top, apparent electricity, extremely noisy and inefficient air conditioning (taped to the wall), sliding closet doors not fixed in rails, grimy and unusable "kitchen" reigning smell, furniture to be renewed.
Bathroom: hygiene does not exist, the towels are all stained with yellow or holes. Hair and hair are present everywhere. No toilet brush, rusty bathtub, trace of toothpaste on the walls, paint going away.
Despite the alerts made at the reception, nothing has changed.
Strongly discouraged!

The hotel desperately needs a renovation. There isn't any breakfast, the furniture is old. There isnt any water heater, no iron in the room. (they say they have one the laundry but the laundry is alwaya closed). However there is a parking and the rooms are some what clean. When we were doing all the formalities there was a part where we had to give an address. So we asked which address are they talking about and her reply was " I dont know". Wow.

It was like living in a crappy apartment. Its old, dirty, and small but you have basics like hot water, a bed, and a lock on the door. To elaborate: 1) Pipes were old, made a lot of noise 2) Towels and sheets had holes from being too old 3) Staff didn't really clean very well. 4) Tub was totally clogged making shower impossible without flooding 5) Tub was really dirty and I didn't feel comfortable taking a bath in it. 4) AC had no remote and was really high up. I had to stand on the table to turn it on. I'm young and spry, but what about guests who aren't? 6) Front desk staff could've been nicer. Because of the dirty, clogged tub I bathed with a bowl out of the sink. Yes this hotel is cheap, but to bathe out of a sink its not cheap enough. My advice, just spend an extra 100 bucks and stay anywhere else.

Very very basic hotel. Old in everything from the property to the furnishings. Located relatively downtown, however in a dodgy area, especially in the evening. In general the surrounding buildings and the hotel itself do not make a good impression. Other than that, the staff is courteous and the room was clean. Our windows were on a park, so we weren't disturbed by traffic or noise. It would definitely not be worth the money of the overnight stays, if it were not that in such a central area is hardly better.

For the price of it it was really good. The toilet tank too a while to refill tho so you'd have to wait a few minutes after flushing once to flush again. There was AC though even though Expedia said there wasn't. The doors were sketchy and so was the elevator. The location was really good though close to everything.

If you’re expecting a hotel with a nice bed, fancy furniture, and a continental breakfast this place isn’t for you. If you’re a money-conscious, low maintenance traveler, you absolutely can’t beat this place for the price. The location is perfect, walking distance (~10 minutes in any direction) from Kensington Market, Chinatown, public transportation, and all the shops on Queen Street. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the view of the CN tower from our room didn’t hurt either. The rooms are outdated and a little odd, but everything is very clean. I’m a young girl in my 20’s and I never felt unsafe at this location. We will definitely be staying here for any future trips to Toronto!

Staff was rude. The bad thing about this hotel is that they know they are cheaper than others so they’re not trying to improve themselves. Even on the wall of the office, there is a review of the hotel saying you can’t get 5 star service for 2 star price. The hotel is acceptable as it is, but it doesn’t change the fact that the rooms haven’t seen any change since the 70s and staff is rude. There is kitchenware, a microwave, a toaster and a kettle in the rooms which is very useful.

3 star value at a 2 star price. 'nuff said. Or as my buddy said, "it's way good enough for us! "

Tiny room, but more than enough for my needs. Queen bed, tiny kitchenette and a bathroom. 24 staff at front door, prime location, chesp parking, quiet neighborhood and best price anywhere.

It is close to weatern hospital and queen street well within walking distance of chinatown.

It was passable. Staff was nice. Bed was clean.

Unlike most people, I've used here as my dormitory for the first year of my University life. $1000 a month back then (2011) was not unreasonable for a 2-bed room. The hotel is quite nice for what it costs, and the cleaning lady was certainly a very lovely person. I am not sure at the current price ($1650+/mo) whether I will still choose it if I am new to Toronto and have nowhere to live. But provided what I had 7 years ago, I'd consider it better than average.

The Alexandra is reliable in a pinch when you're in town for a metal gig. I don't expect greatness from it, nor should anyone else.

Nice apartments but low profile (my room needs a bit of renovation and painting). Not the cleanest place but enough.

Best place I ever stayed! Lola the room cleaner is so amazing. She makes the stay here worth it. Even so service and quality is perfect All the staff go above and beyond! I am ever thankful to them.

Stayed for a few days. It's just a place to stay temporarily, nothing fancy about it. Although next to a park (which I will admit, I thought was a bad idea), it was a nice neighborhood. Also, the front desk has some essentials, in case you forget something (toothbrush, etc) for a small fee.

The staff was wonderful and good location but our room was still dirty when we got it, our sheets had red stains on them and our room heater wouldn't work and when the staff did clean they did not do a good job.

Very very very dirty. I slept with all my clothes on and my fingers crossed that I wouldnt contract bed bugs or something similar. Never never never again will I stay anywhere even close to this big dirty place.

Clean Excellent location; Close to everything walking, great restaurants, bistros and cafes. Around Hospital Area.

I stayed here about three summers ago with my friends, we were in Toronto for a concert. At the time we only worked part time jobs and didn't have as much money to spend. This is a budget friendly hotel. It is good for just dropping your bags. I wouldn't stay here if you plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel itself. You can tell it was an old apartment building converted into a hotel. The rooms are just ok, nothing spectacular, kind of small and run down. The woman at the front desk was nice, she gave us a map and told us the easier way to get to the concert venue, which street car to take and where to get tokens. We took Via Rail to get to Toronto. The Alexandra Hotel was about a 40 min walk from the station. We opted to walk most of the time to save the cost on a cab. The hotel is in a cal-de-sac at the end of Ryerson Ave. I would stay here if I was passing through and needed a place to crash, but I would most likely stay elsewhere.

Just staying in Toronto for one night so didn't need anything too fancy. Wasn't anything to look at, little old and didn't look spotlessly clean. But the beds were comfortable and from the top floor we got a pretty good view of the CN tower and skyline.

Very nice and clean hotel. Located in the middle of Toronto. You can go shopping and eating.

Read some bad reviews and was nervous about my stay. The place was perfectly fine. The hosts were nice, the room was clean. I walked home late quite a few times and didn't have any concerns.

Building is pretty much an old converted apartment. The unit I was in was a small bachelor unit with two single beds and a tiny kitchenette. Rooms are pretty much for budget travellers offering practicality over luxury.

Let's not kid ourselves. This ain't the Ritz. However, it's an EXCELLENT value for your dollar. You are walking distance from some of the best spots in Toronto and the rooms have all the basics you would get at a chain hotel for a fraction of the cost. I'd definitely go back.

The Alexandra clearly used to be low-income housing. It's definitely misrepresented on it's website. The rooms are small, sparce, and clean but ultimately grungy. The location is decent; it's not a far walk to some nice bars and restaurants in the fashion district. The fact that it has on site parking is a bonus.

Well located… Not extremely near to metro. But you can walk and know the surroundings. You have an small kitchen, microwave, toaster… and with 10 bucks deposit you can have coffee maker, hair dryer, iron… Basic room but clean.

Very good hotel at small in the heart of Toronto! We were pleased with our stay at the Alexandra Hotel. The room was clean. At this price it does not expect luxury. Even if there is no restaurant in the hotel, the room is equipped with a complete kitchenette that allows you to eat (there is a supermarket a few minutes away from the hotel). Otherwise, public transport is easily accessible on foot! It is certainly recommended.

The place was located within walking distance. However, The bedsheets were not changed prior to arrival and smelled like bodily fluids. Room smelled like lack of aeration and decaying wood furniture. This place hasn't been renovated for a while from the look of it. The room was compact, but I guess for that price… Something kept buzzing in the area all the time. We had a few police cars with siren and a few junkies in the neighbourhood at night. So walking there back late was sketchy. The worst of this experience were: # The considerable amount of hair in the bath tub and under the toilet seat that were there even before we started using the place. The "fresh" towel had some long hairs and they were stained. Gross! woman at the reception: she is the rudest person I have ever met. When we checked out, she was already dealing with an old couple who were behaving appropriately. She was very dry and her tone very insulting. After the transactions were over, she informed them only when she saw them still waiting around in those words: "what are you still doing here, GO". They were as shocked as we were. On this, I preferred to stay outside and let my parents deal with her. Unfortunately, I was the one who checked us in, so I had to sign some paperwork. Walked back in and said hello… the face she made. She didn't even answered back and tossed the paper at me and ordered me to sign. I was not impressed. She returned back our $200 deposit.

This is a hotel?! Good grief, what have I done? This has to be the worst value of any hotel I've ever stayed in, and that totals close to 200 over the past few years. This is closer to a hostel than a hotel. Ugh.

It is a horrible, horrible, dirty, hotel room OLIA very very wrong because the carpet is old and before you could smoke hotelu, impossible to remove odor. We left the window open every day and returning the smell was the same, unbearable, the funny thing is that insist all the time that it is "non smoking". Reception Lady is unfriendly and impolite, is not that you do not smile, it is really worrying that don't say a "thank you" or "please". Asked something about the parking and with bad camera, not answered us and we said some security cameras in the parking lot (which is the street, by the way). Bathroom dirty and beds without make, only stretching the quilt. I will not recommend to flee here.

Hotel quite old but good value for money considering the location and the mini kitchen. By cons The air conditioning makes a hell of a noise and it is possible to encounter unpleasant kitchen odors from previous guests of the room.

While the rooms themselves were good, the lady that checked us in was extremely rude, and that completely soured the experience. That being said, the room itself was decent, and clean. And all the other staff we interacted with were nice.

Stayed here due to close proximity to the Velvet Underground for a venue + most affordable pricing. The room was tidy, the staff were accommodating and we had a peaceful stay. The kitchenette was stocked with necessities and additional items such as a toaster or coffee maker could be obtained with a $10 deposit. Free Wi-Fi. $7 parking per day w in/out privileges. Make no mistake, this is like staying in a private hostel. The building and decor is dated and despite years of a public smoking ban, you can still ambiently smell it. Deducted a star because the bed covers smelled of smoke — if it can't be laundered out, they should be replaced in my opinion.

Small quaint room with all the amenities needed. Cheap parking, and very courteous staff. The building was clean and all I needed to feel relaxed.

Our stay at the Alexandra Hotel was perfectly suited for our night in Toronto. Located 4 minute walk from Queen St west. The room was great for the low price and we had all the basics that we needed.

Dirty! Hair everywhere in the bathroom. The room smelled like it received its last proper cleaning weeks ago. I will not come back.

The staff treat the residents very badly, and I think my room was haunted, there were weird songs coming out when I was sleeping.

Good budget hotel, great location.

Yesterday from domestic, environmental good, quiet, clean. The Chinese community is within reach. The boss should be a Taiwan or Hong Kong people. (no, we hadn't hear it)

Very bad! I ve travelled a lot because of work, from China to USA. Defenitely this has been one of the worst experience in my life. Starting from reception, no service at all, neither politeness. The bedroom very old, probably forniture of 60's. Moquette on the floor that gives you the feeling of dirt. Windows dirt, the room is noisy because of old windows and you don't either have the possibility to create the dark in the room because the curtains were old and not able to fit it. Afterward the price was 88$ per night. Plus taxes. Around 105$. Anyway it doesn't deserve neither 40 box per night.

The hotel is clean and the service is excellent. If you find a good hotel booking website, the price would be even lower.

The hotel itself is ok, no problems during our stay. The day we had to check-out though, I could not find one of the keysets we were given and I paid the $10 penalty for losing it. 30 minutes afterwards, I found it in my backpack, brought it back to the guy at the front desk and I said I was sorry for being a little late, and asked if they could give me back my ten bucks. I couldn't believe how stupid his answer was : "Too late, we have changed the locks. " I asked him if they had time to do so in 35 minutes and he replied yes. I should have kept the effing keys just because it was the crappiest answer I was ever given.

Very plesant stay on several occassions. We will be back in 2014.

It was excellent, good for person looking for budget hotel. Also good thing about this hotel is its location. I stayed there in Dec 2012, It was good experience.

We traveled up from NJ to visit Canada and enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The staff is very friendly. The hotel has a 90s feel, and I like it. Bonus points for having a fridge and a microwave for drunk food after the bar.

Is clean and cheap but the room is small and everything needs a renovation. The location is fine.
