Celebrated mum’s 80th birthday last night in the bistro. The night was a great success, the guests were comfortable and the food was amazing as usual. The service was impeccable!
All 52 guests had an awesome time, and not one complaint. ☺️
Thank you so much to Andrew, Brilee, Jack, Emma, the outstanding chef and all the other staff members that made our night so memorable and special. 😘❤️

Great prices excellent service and plenty of parking.

They cook the best food, me and m family come al the way from Dandenong 2 or 3 time a week for the food.

Worst experience. In the pokies, bar staff were rude and obnoxious never going back.

Lovely hotel, very polite bistro staff.
Meal sizes were perfect and almost everyone in our booking polished off the entirety of their meals. Serving sizes weren’t over the top and we all enjoyed our meals.
Desserts took a tad too long but were lovely and worth the wait. Best salad dressing I’ve personally had in a very long time.

Although the food was fast, the chicken Parma I ordered gave me food poisoning, it tasted weird and never have I ever had carrot in the sauce on a normal Parma, will never eat there again!

What's with the air conditioning not working when there's a main event fight on here?. Pretty unbearable for the patrons!. Why does this always continue to happen?
Spend some of gambling revenued millions on a decent air conditioning system.

We had a lovely casual lunch today. A couple of share plates and everything was tasty. The staff were lovely and it was a pleasant outing!

There food the salmon was not nice it was dry and taste less veggies where un cooked. I come away feeling un well.

Our first time there great place food was great stuff were very friendly and piano playing in the back ground was very entertaining we will definitely be going back.

Loved our room nice and neat the bed and pillows were so comfy its not to pricey the meals in the bistro are delicious will definitely be returning next time im in melbourne.

Food was nice but place was completely understaffed. The poor chef was taking meals to tables! The wait staff were doing their best but obviously frazzled. Needed at least 2-3 more staff on.

The meal tonight was good. I was about 5 spoonfuls into my $24 risotto when I got called into work. I asked for a take away (as I have had to do about 6 other times in the last 18mths) but was refused because I wasn’t staying at the hotels accommodation. It was booked out and I was staying across the road… the manager blamed food poisoning… so apparently you only get food poisoning when you don’t stay at their accommodation. I have stayed at a ALH GROUP accommodation over 100 times and this is a first… not happy with this decision. Expensive dinner tonight.

Nice, clean, casual place. Nothing fancy just common pub grub — in the sports bar anyway; didn't try the bistro. Meals in the sports bar are ok, again nothing fancy but also reasonably priced — options around $16.

Location is great and parking is abundant. Staff always friendly. Great venue for a private party or socializing.

I travel a lot for work and can say that the rooms are on par with anywhere else that I have stayed for around the same price. Rooms are neat, tidy and comfortable enough for what I need. Free breakfast is a nice touch. Parking's good if you're in a van or truck. Both times I've been the staff have been very friendly and helpful, Most notably my last trip when I checked in late on a Sunday night only to find that I'd booked the wrong dates and rooms were full. Within minutes the staff had called a nearby motel and organised a booking for me! Would stay there again and would definitely recommend to others.

The food was pretty average, the staff half served you at the bar and then just walked away without finishing your order or taking payment and the serving staff take things to a whole other level!
The young blond waitress with the broken English just placed food willy nilly round the table, and the the waitress with the short grey hair, who appears to be management actually blatantly rolled her eyes at people at our table when they asked about their food! And my poor husband …is still waiting for his meal, 60 minutes after ordering and 30 minutes after everyone else had eaten oops… As for my food, the prawn linguini was cooked with pre packaged shrimp and had cooked for so long if I did manage to find one in its tail it was rubberised it was uneatable! And for $24 dollars I expect the best bloody pasty I have ever tasted not the mess I was served! One time might be one time too many!
My two stars are for the very comfy bench seat!

Very busy, kids meals free! After waiting 10 minutes to be served the Bar Waitress didn't know what Pinot Grigio was I had to show her the wine list, then I was asked if I wanted a tall glass! She proceeded to get a champagne glass, so I said I need a "wine" glass. The queue to order food was very long so after tasting the wine which was horrible, I didn't drink it, I left.

We attended an 80th birthday event held at this venue. As we were a large group (approximately 40 people) there was a bit of confusion with the orders to begin with but started requesting names for the orders promptly. The food was delicious and was pretty fast as well considering the amount of people who ordered. Definitely worth a visit.

Good prices for pub grub, especially roast of the day & fish n chips & bacon & cheese garlic bread. Very filling. Has Sports bar with pool tables, Pokies & bistro. Staff are friendly especially Con.

Shared the rooms with three others from the office on a short 2 nights trip to Melbourne. We had a two bedroom suite with a kitchen and living area and a bathroom and toilet. The place was huge, the beds were nice and neatly done. The bathroom was ok. The kitchen was not much of a kitchen. The living area and dining was manageable. There is not many places or shops around but the hotel itself is a betting and gaming place with attached bar and eatery. Won't prefer if travelling with family.

Its abit confusing finding the entrance around the back along way from entry. Once inside its fairly big with a good selection of pokie machines to choose from. Food is also nice to eat and service is good too.

Rooms were generally clean with exception of some cobwebs. Showing sign of its age. The bess are comfortable. The breakfast box is a nice touch. Represents value. The food is reminiscent of a country pub. Had the surf and turf. The steak was cooked to a perfet medium rare but it said fillet on the menu but got served rump. The prawns were tiny and tasted like they were precooked prawns reheated. The garlic sauce lacked depth but was OK. The chips were steak fries and were hot and fresh.

Fantastic place for food and coffees and drinks even after work or before work or even during work haha. Good place for all sorts of people such as singles families and couples even from 18 plus. Good section good for kids too. Nice and very clean and very busy place u will find. Lots of parking areas too as well as beautiful and not to expensive hotels as well. Very friendly staff and most of the time atmosphere is fantastic and enjoyable too. This is somewhere I recommend for all sorts of occasions to have there.

Large venue, with plenty of seated and standing room. Big screens with live sports, and both bistro and bar meals. Chicken Parma over the bar was delicious.

The food was excited and the staff was amazing and very Attentive to our needs Would go back for next family function for sure.

Great service from a gentleman by the name of Con. Very polite and courteous. Nothing was an issue and ensured that we had a good night with delicious meals. Lovely food and fast delivery on our meals. Manger was friendly and helpful.

Food was lovely. We often go there enjoy all our meals. We went Wednesday and was surprised at seniors 50% off. It shows up a lot of hotels around. Especially Highlands hotel which we had to attend for function. Yuk.

Good fast inexpensive meals. Service is usually very friendly and helpful. It can get busy but generally no problem securing a table. Popular kids area too.

I was initially served by a guy called Con, he was a nice guy, eager to help out, and very helpful. The hotel room itself was clean and we were provided with a breakfast box to take with us which was cool. It was fairly quiet, and in a location that was reasonably close to a train station. Prices were fairly cheap too.

A friendly ALH pub thats local and easily accessible offers a range of food services (bistro, sports bar and gaming), great size TAB and Sports bar with a giant screen showing multiple sports/races. Great place to catch up with the lads for a few pints of our dinner with the family.

Good quality pub meal, lots of choice on specials board, reasonable drinks prices, good service, will visit again.

Had a great meal at the Excelsior Hotel last night the mushroom sauce was yummy with the chicken off to Crown Casino today, just to have a look and lunch. OH the joy of being on holidays.

Meals took forever to come out. The had a piano playing that was nice but it was too loud and you couldn't talk. Asked for bread rolls to come out like an entree and they came out after main meals only after we asked for them a second time. Asked for a regular coke and diet coke on tap and she said she didn't have diet but had coke no sugar. Said that will be fine. And after she filled them said she only has coke no sugar on tap and not regular coke.

On Edgar's Rd thomastown excelsior hotel provide great pub meals and alcohol. Some specials on drink were on offer also. Billiards, pokies and nice outdoor smoking area.

Room smelled. Stayed for 3 nights, they said they change the linen every day if you stay more than 3 nights, this did not happen, however every think else was good especially the price. Staff were also friendly.

Don’t recommend eating at the bistro. Ordered the seafood platter. Priced at $37. Never got what the menu stated. No prawn garlic skewers, no scollops, no lemon wedge, no tartar sauce. Ended up getting mussels not cooked at all, needed a nut cracker to open them. Which were in a bath of red sauce. Qualified chefs should know that closed mussels are not cooked ones. Complained to 2 staff members and all I got was “ I’ll tell the chef”. And made excuse that the prawns are in the sauce. What about getting what I ordered. Not what the chef decides to dish up. Not a happy customer and won’t be eating there ever again.

Bistro and sports bar food is not what it used to be… this place has unfortunately gone downhill… only worried about the gaming and TAb revenue!. Needs to pick up it's game of it wants to compete with the likes of The Olympic hotel in Preston which does fabulous food with great service… id rather drive to Preston for a feed than go to my local … very sad!

The place just has no atmosphere and feels unwelcoming. Some bar staff at times make you feel like they are doing you a favour when they serve you. The last time we dined not one of our table of six was all that happy with their meals for one reason or another and it seemed overpriced for what we got compared with other local venues. On the up side, the decor is pleasant and there is plenty of parking. Won't be returning though.

The hotel is clean and basic. Very much older and utilitarian. The included breakfast is pre-packaged, but satisfactory. A lot of noise from adjoining units and the weather outside.

A nice spacious hotel with a place for everything including meetings, meals a nice relaxing cold one and more…

My partner went to the excelsir the othe night for dinner as we walked. In we were met by the friendly we were show to our table the menu was expained to us great range to choose from. The food was very well presented great overall evening I would go back again.

Had lunch there with family Food was of good quality and meal portions were satisfactory Service was prompt and staff were very friendly.

Food was good. Bit of a wait for our mains to arrive. Overpriced unless you are using some sort of discount.

Me and my friends had one of the worst experience in a long time. My friend plays pocker and has dinner every week and plays the pokies afterwards. We ordered coffee which we had free from two of the workers. But one worker wanted $2 for a coffee that was made from an automatic machine. My friend had a bad loss in pocker and the pokies and got offended when He was asked $2 coffee and was asked to leave for complaining. The Excelsior is the only venue I know or go to where I'm charged for coffee not made by a proper barista. We were dissapointed in the way we were treated that we are seriously considering not attending anymore. I think Zegame has the right attitude in free coffee for patrions and members that gamble, We do attend these venues almost every night and don't care much of this one man's attitude towards the costermer. PS: I was born and brought up in the hospitality industry and my friend it a pizza chef in Carlton and we have never been treated in such a low attitude manner. I think management should revise their policy on coffee charges for gamblers. I hope I explained myself clear enough, If not you have lost at least two customers and possible more after this not only a one time incident. Thank you for asking. Gianfranco Ciccone.

I had dinner at the Excelsior Hotel with a group of friends and we all throughally enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place for a dining experience.

Food was great. Staff were great. Ambiance was great. What more could you ask for.

Bed is VERY comfortable! Staff is lovely and breakfast provided when picked up yourself at reception desk. Showers not so great though, could use an upgrade and floor towels and hand towels would be nice to have in the bathroom also.

I would like to thank Grady and his manager for the most friendly and helpful people l have come across made me feel so welcome. The bed l slept in was the most comfortable bed l think l have ever slept in, the showers had hot water, it was very clean and was so surprised the service was fantastic. I will be staying there again when l have to go to melbourne. Thanks again.

Overall we really enjoyed the food. Everything was fresh and cooked well. We had oysters kilpatrick and calamari for entree and chicken/veal parmas for mains. Good chips and fresh salads and fast service. Price is a little dearer than some pub meals ($28 for Veal Parma) and charging $2 extra for a tiny half filled sauce dish or $3 for gravy is a bit rich but I can say everything was tastey. BYO BBQ sauce! (Can get a whole bottle for $2! ) ;)

Lunch with family… Good menu selection… Plus a variety of specials on the board. Quick & polite service… Used the Clipp app… Staff not very familiar with it, but sorted it quickly… Great experience…

Overall the staff are lovely. The meals are very nice and at a fair price. The bistro is separate from the gaming area which personally is a must as eating and slot machines are sources of pleasure and should not distract you in any way. Also has free Wi-Fi and Tv with small fridge.

Great meals, fast service, dining room away from pokies, good kids play area, know how to use the Clipp app for bar tabs, great seniors discounts. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Shocking accommadation. Curtain was off its track, heater was broken, beds were ok if you were 5 foof 5 inches tall. Never again. Dirty around stairs.

Waitress was quite rude to start with. Other waitresses were lovely! Food was good, but a lot of fat on my steak.

For the price, I guess you get what you pay for. Damaged a/c unit, damaged bathroom door, the bed was actually broken.

Not bad food was nice. Only issue was my car was damaged in the car park.

Experience was ok. Excepti dont think much of the starter breakfast bit overall was ok.

Not very clean. Has tea and coffee facilities but no kitchenette or microwave, hairdryer, or roomsafe. Had to clean the aircon filters myself to get it working properly as they were completely blocked up. Most TV channels dont work due to poor reception. Bed was not very comfortable for a long stay although house keeping done a reasonable job to keep beds and bathroom clean and tidy. Ok for one night but would not recommend a long stay. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

We ordered bar food which was a bit average but I have been in the restaurant previously and the food is quite nice. Would recommend to only eat in the restaurant area. Bar staff were very friendly and helpful and poured generous glasses of wine and champagne.

Over 90 minutes from ordering to being served — dreadful!

Been going here for years and always had really good counter meals but oh how things have changed. I had a mate come over and wanted to go for a pub meal so I thought lets go here. I felt embarrassed as soon as I got there as staff seemed to be wondering aimlessly with no care in the world so we had to seat ourselves and then go up and order. We waited at the counter for someone to show up which happened eventually and we ordered and at least didn't have to wait for too long for the meals. My mate got a meat pie that was ok but the chicken parmigiana was an awful sight to behold. A light scattering of chips with a schnitzel that struggled to be larger than the palm of my hand with wafer thin chicken that was tougher than an oven roasted steel capped boot. I would of called for the lifeguard if I expected any staff to be bothered with serving so I could of saved the salad from drowning in the dressing… Safe to say Ill not be back.

Pleasant stay. Clean room. No problems with noise. Good meal in Bistro. Staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant.

Stayed here overnight. Room was clean and breakfast box provided was free and superb. The room was quiet and we had an awesome meal in the bistro. Check in was difficult as no signage to where check in was. Also staff need some training in the gaming room they are so rude. The bistro staff were superb. Please book though if you going to stay here cause bistro fills up fast.

I went to the Excelsior Bistro last night to celebrate my daughters birthday with close family and friends because I used to go there 3 years ago and the meals were fantastic. They were nicely sized portions and always well cooked. Last night was the total opposite. The meals were so small, even my mother in law and father in law we utterly disappointed in the food portions they received. My wifes meal was cold and hence had to be returned, a friends salmon was nothing like it should have been cooked and also had to be returned which they initially wanted to charge him for anyway. Another friends meal was also brought cold. I felt totally embarrassed that I had suggested this venue for my daughters birthday. If not for the kids entertainer the night would have been a total disaster. Needless to say we will not be going back to this venue.

I went there today to check it out and within the first 15 minutes of being there I found it to be dirty and just not going by health regulations. I say that it is dirty because while we were taken to a table, we passed three dirty tables. Now we did not go when it was busy, too be honest there were only three other couples there with us during the day. Also the kitchen is able to be seen by customers, and when going up to order something to eat. THERE WAS A CUSTOMER EATING OUT OF A SALAD BOWL ON A PLATE! Did not order was so disgusted by what I saw.

At the bar it seems like staff are doing you a favour by serving you. Two staff not doing anything one looking at newspaper looked up at us and one eventually came up and said "are you right? " Very ordinary and it happens all the time — won't be going back again.
